i often revisit OOTB and it astounds me at how incredible it is for her debut no less..

OOTB is not the best album ive ever heard, most of it are skips but it sounds drastically different from the Katy we've known that sometimes listening to this album makes me feel like this is not the same person who release Teenage Dream and Prism in 2 years later. This is proof that Katy has that raw "niche" artistry inside of her and she can totally pull a "cult pop icon" monumental record.

 

Instead of 143 with those Blackpink / Kim Petras / Dr. Luke rejects

she is an amazing artist and a very creative person, but i think she is too focussed on being this 'carelss current pop culture icon' ala charli xcx or (to a lesser extent) slayyyter/kim petras. she needs to sit down by herself and write what SHE wants to write

 

maybe then we would get another pop rock classic with emotionally charged hits like thinking of you

yeah i get the sense that she's lost artistry wise and just makes whatever she thinks people want from her. she opened up about this in that weird livestream for witness but it seems like she never moved on from that mentality, its kinda sad
