Standoff at Eagle Pass Conflict

Republican Texas governor Greg Abbott ordered the Texas National Guard to take control over an area known as Shelby Park, a location on the Rio Grande that separates the US and Mexico. Abbott declared the park closed, preventing federal border patrol agents from accessing the area and sending his own national guard troops. Multiple migrants have been found drowned since Abbott closed the park and installed concertina wire -- these acts explicitly illegal and federally prohibited. The Supreme Court (which has an overwhelming conservative majority) ordered that federal border patrol agents would be allowed to remove the concertina wire (the wire being installed months ago and contributing to many deaths). Abbott has defied this court order by shutting down Shelby Park and by not allowing border patrol agents into the area. 25 states with Republican governors have declared their support for Abbott, and over a dozen have sent state national guard troops to assist in the unprecedented conflict.

 

This is an extremely volatile situation and a remarkably rare escalation between state and federal militaries here in the US. President Biden has yet to take action and this situation is still unfolding!

Abbott has always been an ignorant, classless idiot. I may not live in Texas (our own governor to the north is almost as bad), but I feel so embarrassed for Texans.
