Mileena 2,693 Posted September 7, 2012 I don't approve of it but it's her life and i'll be a fan whatever. I just think smoking on stage at a festival where there you can be any age (eg latitude) is a bit off.. Well, kids have probably seen it 1000x on the street anyway by complete strangers. It's down to parents to set examples to their kids - not Lana Del Rey (or any other celebrity). If David Bowie can smoke on stage, Lana Del Rey can too.
Mileena 2,693 Posted September 7, 2012 I really hate the message she sends to girls. I know that what she says isn't always what she means, but if I were 3 years younger I don't think I would and I would probably take her lyrics the wrong way. Also, she's very contradictory and plays the role of the victim a lot. (I say all this with love..) Being innocent is all part of her stage persona though, the whole doe eyed look, 'bambi' eyes and what not. It's total 50s glamour. Also, her lyrics are sardonic a lot of the time, but I'm not even a feminist so I guess I'm not bothered.
Guest Chloe Posted September 7, 2012 Don't you disagree with objectifying women? Lots of her lyrics and that awful GQ shoot do this..
Mileena 2,693 Posted September 7, 2012 Don't you disagree with objectifying women? Lots of her lyrics and that awful GQ shoot do this.. It's not fair, but even calling someone 'beautiful' is objectifying someone, so where do you draw the line? We all objectify and contradict each other at the end of the day. Not only that, but unfortunately she's a female and very good looking celebrity - this sort of thing was bound to happen, but I'm sure she wasn't kicking and screaming on the way.

I'm not saying Lana is anti-feminist at all, just what she does can easily be misconstrued, but I suppose that goes for every artist.. I just think it's tough b/c she is a new artist.

I'm pretty much a lesbian, I love women. However, what is even feminist anymore? Everything's become so blurred, people get too butt hurt and stuff so I can't even have an opinion.

Lana loves the attention, but having a man grab your boob in a mens magazine is revolting. I just thought that she was different to all those other women who do it. Sorry but I don't understand women who aren't feminist. Lana isn't anti-feminist, but everything gets perceived differently by others.

Well, I'm not anti-women or whatever, but you know the line gets blurred so much that it's really difficult to see what an objectification of a woman really is. As long as Lana's okay with it, I believe people should just let her get on with it.

Basically it just means you support that women are as equal as men and should be able to do anything they'd like, .. whether it'd be a lawyer, porn star, etc. haha

So no, I'm not a feminist because men aren't always treated right either. And when you said 'women should be able to do anything they like' - why can't Lana do what she likes? (Even if it is posing nude for a male magazine.)

(Even if it is posing nude for a male magazine.) Women are more repressed than men though.. we still don't have equal pay, there are so many inequalities. Women are still referred to as 'bitches' and 'whores'..this doesn't happen for men, or at least it is not as prevelant. This is a man's world (unfortunately). Lana can do whatever she wants, but I have the right to judge it/not be happy with it lol
Guest Chloe Posted September 7, 2012 If it were a male singer posing in a womens magazine, with a female groping him, with him pretending to wank, think what the world would say? Just because women are 'sexy' and 'beautiful', it doesn't mean it's right to do this..

But that's not to say that women don't have tough times either. And you're perfectly right in having an opinion, not everyone will like what she does. Sometimes she infuriates me when she acts like she has so much to hide about her previous discography. I mean come on, I listen to a lot of artists and none of them have been so dramatic and well kind of silly like Lana's been about her leaked songs. For example, Crystal Castles get leaked songs but they don't give a fuck. Still, I love my Baby Rey <3

Homosexuals, women, trans genders, etc. Everyone should be equal. No one's cause is lesser than another's (although I would say that homosexuals and trans genders have it worse than women, but because I am a women, it just hits a nerve lol) she is so dramatic. idk why her team thought this stuff would remain hidden forever. the internet never forgets!!! literally

And I'm a woman, and it does annoy me, don't get me wrong. But I have someone really close to me who is transgendered, and I'm not straight either, my family's from everywhere so I've experienced every form of discrimination. And God, I know. Sometimes, she does get on my nerves a little bit, but she wouldn't be human if she didn't. It's nice to see how her musical style has improved anyway. She could just say 'Those were songs I did years back, I've evolved as an artist' - or something along those lines. Rather than get all upset and ridiculous.
