I’m gonna posit that “Henry” is an amalgamation of every difficult relationship she’s ever had with a troubled man; Henry, a “country singer” is just a motif for this kind of guy. Maybe she wanted to write a song about the difficulties of being with a ‘music man’ (generalization for a noncommittal guy) like the Henrys in her life—but at the same time, these lines could also reflect how SHE might have made others feel at times, because she *is* and has been the ‘music man’ to the men throughout her life, some of whom may have struggled with that power balance. A traditional country song theme that can walk on both sides of the line, but in a fresher way with strings and Lana-isms. soft leather, blue jeans <3

Wouldn’t be a lana interview if it wasn’t vague and left us with twice the amount of questions

I love the photos so much - very 60s, very on brand with Milan as a fashion capital in the midcentury.
The interview is also full of so much insight and it’s interesting to see her psyche shift with her own geography. She reminds me of Joan Didion in that way; so much of what they both write is coloured by the surrounding landscape.
I like the idea of Lana’s “eras” being classified according to geography. I think what we, at this point in time, might call her “Golden Age” is the period during which she released those California albums. She flirted with the heartland a little bit on Chemtrails and Blue Banisters, almost inching towards it, but never quite getting there. Ocean Blvd, to me, transcended its geography and even returned to California at times. It now appears that this upcoming record—whether its final title will be Lasso or not—will mark a more pronounced geographical shift to her new home in the South and will usher in a new way of operating that is characteristic of the region.

Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough I don’t know why
I’m not sure if anyone else already mentioned this but this parallel is making me extremely emotional rn

"I'm entering a new era. It has to do with living in Oklahoma and feeling different. My eyes have seen so much open space, I've felt the wind, and that's the kind of energy I want to talk about now." It’s refreshing to hear her say this after months of hinting at a major shift. It feels almost like she's leaving Hollywood behind—not retiring or leaving LA entirely, but that her music might start reflecting a different, even more grounded perspective. There was a clear leap between LFL and NFR—a new chapter of self-possessed lyrics, at times a more positive outlook and deeply introspective lyrics that carried through COCC, BB and Tunnel. Now, as she says she's done with the ultra-personal, I can’t wait to see where this new direction takes her.

“When I get married, I'lI do it with someone who, like me, will think that love is enough. I'll be enough for him and he'll be enough for me. Someone to have children with if there are any and who chooses to stay home with me. I want it to be simple, a love that doesn't respect time. Like saving each other.”

This was a really good interview!
I do think it’s interesting how she ends the interview talking about marriage. She had to have been engaged by this point with how heavy on her mind it was
it’s interesting that she knew she had to leave Hollywood to find love/marriage. After wanting to leave since 2020 I’m glad she did and got what she wanted
