Rita Hayworth Posted Friday at 01:03 PM Posted Friday at 01:03 PM I haven't said anything until now because I wanted to let the song sit with me for a day. I agree in part with those who say the mixing is a bit shoddy, however Lana's emotional delivery outweighs all its 'flaws' etc. I also wish that the song was a little longer to round off the ending a little better, the strings had way more potential. Howeverrr, these are my only quarrels so to speak. I love it so much and can't WAIT for the album omg. 4 Quote

Platinum Greenwich Posted Friday at 01:06 PM Posted Friday at 01:06 PM I don't exactly understand the response I have to this song tbh it's probably not one of my favorites but I also feel like it's one of the best she's ever put out?????? maybe it's just a clarity of artistic vision that's getting to me idfk 7 Quote
All Around the Moon Posted Friday at 01:06 PM Posted Friday at 01:06 PM (edited) Also, am I the only *one who expected her to say "Henry is gone" after that "hey" at the end of the song? It would just fit so naturally and I fill it in every time. Edited Friday at 01:08 PM by All Around the Moon Typo 5 Quote When you know, you know That it's time to leave Like the summer breeze
Vertimus Posted Friday at 01:07 PM Posted Friday at 01:07 PM I like Henry but do not love it yet. Lyrically, it seems a little clumsy. Maybe all of a sudden it will click, I'll hear it in a new way, the way I did Arcadia, and it will seem like magic. 3 Quote

By the nature of modern media consumption you have to flatten music/art to discuss it. A long-form video interpreting the lyrics of Henry wouldn't go viral, but a short-form video about the picsart cover or the "republican country" sound will. With White Lotus too, only the more dramatic storylines like the gay incest get discussed, or absurd theories. I do think there's room to critique artists, don't get me wrong, but I feel like fandoms nowadays are mostly people who don't even particularly enjoy the things they're consuming, so it all leads to a cycle of frustration and misinterpretation. If you didn't like the last four albums, just give up at this point. She's probably not gonna make a avant garde trap post-punk Williamsburg record at this point in her life. 7 Quote

Pink Champagne Posted Friday at 01:13 PM Posted Friday at 01:13 PM On first listen, it made me tear up. It’s so beautiful and sad. I completely misunderstood the snippet when I first heard it, thinking it would be about a lasting relationship. But the song is actually so sad. I really love it. 10 Quote I don’t really wanna die, I just want the pain to be over

Old Money, Honeymoon, Yayo, all of these songs of which I’d consider her best, would be shit on. And the thing is people say she needs to “go back to her old sound” when those quite literally are her old sound and are just as slow and sparse as anything today. I agree so strongly with your entire comment. Embach Posted Friday at 01:20 PM Posted Friday at 01:20 PM THIS SONG IS JUST SO CRISP AND CRYSTAL CLEAR!!! THIS SONG FEELS LIKE A WARM HUG!!! This whole time when I was listening to this song I had a big smile on my face because it somehow made me feel so jolly and giddy but at the same time there was this wavering nostalgia around which can make you a bit melancholic. This whole time I listened to the song, I pictured an image of LA or a Californian town where the sun is setting but in a way how you're facing the sunset and the sea with your back but you, yourself, are facing towards the road, seeing the highway and the houses and the rocky mountains in the golden light of the sunset - these are the new roads you're going to head and discover. I think that the song told me that it's okay to move on AND miss those old times which were confusing and overwhelming. And I embrace it. There are few main positive things I noticed when I listened to the song: the strings were so huge and clear, I'm so glad that they didn't sound muted, Drew did a great job with it. The piano in this song felt very Elton John-esque, as someone who listened to his ballads for years, I kind of recognized some of the piano play parts as very his. The orchestra really reminded me of Disney movies, especially those of the 1990s, it also sounded different from her other songs. It made the song feel very Christmassy or like very winter-y, which would've been a perfect for a January release in my opinion. I didn't really instantly notice the melody similarities between Brooklyn Baby and Miley's Wrecking Ball but I do understand people's perspectives where they come from. Still, I think the song is as original as it is, the similarities aren't that noticeable. None of Lana's other songs reminded me of Henry Come On to be honest. I think it's very Lana-esque and lyrically it really reminds me of her past three albums but I wouldn't tell that sonically it reminds me of a certain track. Maybe some of the pedal steel guitar or some elements reminded me of Margaret's production in that "when you know you know" part. But the strings, which were very Disney-esque did remind me of stems from Love. While it was really different from her other orchestral music uses, I instantly recognized some of the violin twists from Love stems, at some point I thought they were sampled: Overall, it's an amazing song with a beautiful production and great lyrics. Such a wonderful track - it's definitely my third favorite lead single right now, only behind West Coast and Video Games. 13 Quote
