Seems like "Talking Like an Answering Machine" was discussed on ATRL a few months ago.

Interesting to note is that the song is registered under Lana Del Rey instead of Elizabeth Grant (which is usually the case with her songs).

I hope that she changes the title. I mean, she changed "young and in love" to "Love"

She went from titles like Ultraviolence, Pretty When You Cry, Honeymoon, The Blackest Day (just to name a few) to childish cringy sounding titles like Coachella- Woodstock In My Mind, Happiness Is A Butterfly and now Talking Like An Answering Machine.. ew no :hottie: I hope everything she’s done so far gets scrapped. I want Honeymoon 2.0 :angie: :angie: :trisha: :oprah:

Also.. Is she aware NO ONE wants political related tracks???? WTWWAW and God Bless America were more than enough :eartha: :eartha2:

I pretend I’m not hurt and go about the world like I’m having fun

As a Brit, I feel so awkward listening to GBA. Which is a shame because it sounds gorgeous but the lyrics somewhat make me cringe. Too patriotic.

I'm gonna get a lot of shit for saying this but I think it's time Lana had a co - writer. She's been lyrically getting weaker and weaker with each album. She sometimes still has golden moments like Get Free but they've become real rare though out later records. She's been relying on production to take some of the slack and I think it's starting to catch up on her.

You’re truly braver than the US marines for saying this. I totally agree. I want songs that make you go “wow” during the first few listens, not songs that take half a year for you to finally appreciate :rip:

Possible future songs:

Happiness is a butterfly

Talking like an answering machine

.....

I mean does this sound as weak as, or even weaker than LFL?...Yes, in my opinion

I know it's wrong to judge a future album off of 2 titles that might not even be in it but still..a quick thought

I agree with you. It seems like she's "dumbing things down" in order to have a hit song. Hasn't she recently expressed a desire to have a popular hit? I mean, just look at LFL (the song), where she asked Max Martin (one of the biggest pop song producers) for advice.

However, I do think she's still able to make amazing music lyrically. I think it's just a mindset for her.

I kinda wish she would live somewhere else for a while, to get some new sources of inspiration. Even if it's just New York or Europe or wherever. At this point it feels like LA is making her creation process a bit stale.

I always try to see the bright side but this time I wanna say that u're kind of right. HIAB sounds so silly and I wasn't amazed by this snippet we've all heard. Ehh, I have so much hope that she's gonna give us something timeless...every time I hear Born to Die (song) I feel like it's the first time and I just fly into another dimension.

TLAAM sounds more like an old unreleased track to me, it's very quirky and lizzy grant esque. It might not even be for LDR6

Am I the only one who likes "Talking like an answering machine"? It is a bit odd but it is quite unusual!

Plus remember her other songs have had cool names like "Bartender" and "Sylvia"! I will admit I am not a fan of the title for HIAB, but I still think it has the potential to be a really sweet, chilled, emotional song. I don't think we give Lana enough credit for LFL or what LDR6 could be - her style may have changed a but over time but she is still the most talented singer on the planet!

TLAAM somehow sounds a bit experimental to me. Like a Black-Cherry-era Goldfrapp track. We probably won't get to hear it anyway

Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

Yeah and I think that's why she's working with such a commercial producer (Jack...something I can't remember). She's definitely after a safe for the general public kinda record and that worries me.

How much of her personality is she willingly to ditch so that she can get some hits?

Is she still capable of promoting at the same level she did during BTD?

Lana has too put in major effort so that she can get kind of a chance. It's not good enough nowadays especially the way things are now in the industry, to just release something and expect it to chart. You HAVE to sell yourself and work real hard.

The title is probably to mislead - not the final thing. Maybe a working title or concept where some parts sound like an answering machine or something.

Something like "what-dyu-do-when-the-lights-turn-low-boy?" in her song 'Fake Diamonds'.

I don't know why 'Summer Of Sam' comes to my mind. Probably because the spoken verses & that telephone effect on the vocals.
