God, after reading those 7 pages I started to wonder why am I a fan of hers...
*I love Lana, I'm a fan of hers, trying to remember*

    My unpopular opinion of her:

She comes across boring in interview, she always says the same things, sometimes it feels like I'm listening to a record on repeat.

Her song writing skills like her live performances are inconsistent - she can do great but she can also do bad.

Some of her comments may seem shallow "I just like gold, diamonds and fur".

LDR might have been just an exotic and beautiful name at first, but the more it goes the more she's building up a persona because..

.. She's a stubborn, she said things in the past and will never admit that some of it were BS - we got to live w/ that *till the end of time*.

Other than that I really like her. Her weirdness and all the thing I said above are what makes her human and likable. Perfection doesn't exist and is boring if it does. I always cringe when someone says she's perfect.

I'm trying to imagine a forum dedicated to Monicker and his music in which we discuss him and his eras and music previously available online and our favourite outfits/ensembles of his and we pry into his previous relationships and discuss his nude GQ editorial pics and if his lips are real or not and this whole thing is all very weird. O _ O

(...I would so join that forum though).

Stop the teasing, once I'm over Lana, you'll be the guy I'll be tracking down Monicker. :creepy:

I'm not even sure i want her to win any of them.. These MTV shtick don't mean anything, they may had some value in the pre internet era but not anymore. The game has changed, it's popularity over quality/music. I'll be happy if she wins, Europe loves her, the music industry hasn't been easy on her, it'll be some sort of validation but I won't cry she doesn't. She doesn't need it.

I'll vote for her though. *hypocrisy when you hold me* :smiles:

I think Lana can be accused of not being many things, although "sufficiently thoughtful" isn't one of them. *shrugs* I do agree with the latter part of your statement though.

    More things I thought of:

Again, (not an unpopular Lana opinion, but a plea: Can people stop saying she has a degree in metaphysics? I don't even think Lana herself has once said she has a degree in it.

She keeps dropping Nabokov and Whitman and Ginsberg and that's all very well and nice, but I need her to talk more about things like this:

I remember being as happy as a clam kitty when I first read this and it still makes me really, really happy. :3 I think it's actually one of my favourite things Lana has ever said! :3 (Another is "I don't many things, but I don't know about that"). Lana and I could have sleepovers and we could braid each other's hair and talk about returning blood cells to their stem cell state and cracking DNA storage and its potential as a storage medium and the discovery of an ancient galaxy that totally uproots common beliefs held in the astronomy community, and who's cuter, Neil or Brian (I'd argue Neil because he looks like a super-huggable teddy bear, Lana would argue Brian because he has a Jimmy Gnecco-esque thing going on) and she would ask why I'm not pursuing the math degree that I actually intended to get and I'd get upset and clam up because that's a touchy subject for me, and she would tsk and give me a knowing look and then I'd retaliate by asking her what's up with K and then she'd look at me, hurt, with mascara running down her little bambi eyes and roll on her other side, away from me, tugging the quilt with her and leaving me cold and blanket-less in the dark, our fun cut short and the silence loud and deafening.

Tried to resist getting into this thread, but finally gave in. Here are some things that bug me about Lana.

    1. Her lack of effort in preparing for live performances. In particular not using backing singers (given that all the songs in BTD have layering and loop back vocals), and inconsistent use of ear monitors.
    2. Her using the exactly the same list of songs in exactly the same order for all of her concerts was really irritating (I attended two of the NY shows and felt like I was watching exactly the same show). Just changing the order of songs (and preferably cycling in one new song) would have introduced some spontaneity and made the shows more exciting.
    3. I find her reluctance to do encores irritating, and really do not understand her philosophical resistance to it.
    4. I really do not like her smoking. We know that smoking can destroy your voice and as a singer that is really stupid.
    5. I think she has taken the mystery aspect of her background a bit too far, particularly as it leads her to trip up on facts e.g. her birthdate.
    6. Not being sufficiently thoughtful and speaking in similar clichés in multiple interviews.

On the other hand I have no problem with her appearance and I think she looks her age (saw her up close at the concert). I think constant dyeing may not be good for her hair but I don’t know much about such things. I also don’t think she had surgery on her face, and the reason her face looks different now is that she has lost significant amounts of weight (maybe when she was on the maple syrup/coffee diet in London), and the reason her lips look plumper is that she uses cayenne pepper. I am amazed at the number of songs she has written, and find the lyrics intriguing and interesting. Most amazingly, I have not been so smitten with an entertainer before, and I find her endlessly fascinating.

Taking into account that her unreleased songs are so eclectic and diverse, I thought these more eccentric, mostly acoustic tunes could be a cohesive collection, portraying a lesser-known side of Lana. The EP would be called “Forlorn on Fire” (because I think this fragment from “Dangerous Girl” describes her quite well) and the tracklist would be:

    1- Disco
    2- Get Drunk
    3- You’re Gonna Love Me
    4- 1949
    5- Elvis
    6- Axl Rose Husband
    7- Money Hunny
8- Dangerous Girl (a capella demo)
    9- Pin Up Galore (demo)

The songs that comprise this selection are episodes in the story of a young woman’s search for her own identity, where she oscillates between self-confidence and substance-induced bravado, both shrewd and innocent, longing to discover and experience life and love without the binding ties of morality, determined yet astray, travelling from desire to despair, from certainty to confusion, and – after observing the ways of the world – emerging from loss towards a newfound sense of self, luminous and dark: “not of this world”.

The cover would be this image ♥

    WHOLE WORLD'S GIRL
    Lana Del Rey

    1. She's Not Me
    2. Summer Of Sam
    3. Fake Diamond
    4. Dangerous Girl
    5. Gramma(Blue Ribbon Sparkler Trailer Heaven)
    6. Driving In Cars With Boys
    7. Go Go Dancer
    8. Marilyn Monroe

    - This EP shows a slightly more 'pop' side to Lana, but still the good old Lana whom we love
    - It slams any statements saying that her music is 'depressing'
    - It shows that Lana music can be appealing to everyone
    - The songs on this EP have catchy choruses, but with great lyrics, too
    - It showcases the sometimes bratty, fun, and dangerous Lana

This photo seems appropriate, as she's wearing a cute dress, holding an adorable puppy, but is smoking. She's innocent, yet dangerous.

This makes no sense, but oh well!

    I'll begin!

Lana Del Rey - The Scarlet Woman EP

    1. Children of the Bad Revolution
    2. Lift Your Eyes
    3. You Can Be the Boss
    4. Hundred Dollar Bill
    5. Trash Magic (Miss America)
    6. Get Drunk
    7. Serial Killer
    8. Dark Paradise (demo)

Babylon Bonuses: Money Hunny and Heavy Hitter

This EP showcases a lyrical tale of mysticism and sensuality as Lana Del Rey comes clean about her past lives as a high priestess and an escort. These songs either have esoteric references or divulge carnal knowledge. Who else could coo about spirituality and sexuality on the same record? She "dies" or is sacrificed at the end of this concept album, too. Only just to be reborn for the next era.

One of my favorite song from BtD is Off to the Races because of its fast pace, her vocal which make me thing of two people telling us their experience w/ men and love or the same person telling this love story but at 2 periods of time (when living it and when being reminiscent of it).

This song is and is about an obsessive, unhealthy, schizophrenic yet beautiful relationship. It's about submission, she's not the victim though but the mastermind of everything. It's about getting what you want and desire from love and living it.

So here is my playlist, showing Lana soft and sultry/crazy side:

OFF TO THE RACES: LOVE MURDERER

    01. Go Go Dancer
    02. Put the Radio On
    03. Playing Dangerous
    04. Trash Magic
    05. Kinda Outta Luck
    06. Dum Dum
    07. Serial Killer
    08. Never Let Me Go

    Bonus track:
    09. The Man I Love

likewise, Monicker! i missed your eloquent, thought-provoking views on everything! so glad this board was created ♥
i totally agree that she's a true weirdo and i love it! i just hope she is able to continue expressing and sharing her strange eccentricity as freely as possible, although i kind of doubt that it'll ever be the same as when she didn't have a big audience hanging on her every word and watching her every move. i'm still curious to see her evolution...after the born to die paradise edition, a phase in her life will be over. what'll follow is a mystery i'm looking forward to

I’m happy that the topics that came up with the GQ shoot are still being discussed and have now spilled into another thread; it's important and it's nice to see it being discussed. I agree with whoever said that everyone should be a feminist. Why in the world not? What single good reason is there not to be?

Anyway...about the topic of this thread:

As some of you may remember, i really hate the National Anthem video.

I like the Blue Jeans video much more than the Born to Die video.

TIWMUG is my least favorite song on the record.

I have no interest in Damn You, it’s a weak song with bad production and i think it’s been singled out as such a coveted song because that’s what previews do--they whet the appetite and make anything more appealing. I think there's a need to fill in the gaps and a desire to grab hold of the dangling carrot. That song stinks.

I think Lana can be incredibly cheesy and i love it. I also enjoy all of her paradoxes. I actually love that she has terrible songs sitting right alongside amazing ones.

I often wonder if she’s mentally unstable. She seems a bit off.

I don't know if this is an unpopular view or not, but she's weird, genuinely weird. Not Lady Gaga/Marilyn Manson weird, which isn't weird in the slightest. That said, what the hell does it even mean to be weird anyway? But yeah, she's a weirdo.

There are a few interviews in which i cringe because she comes across pretty dumb. I think she plays that up though and uses that as a sort of tool to be evasive.

I wonder why people--if they’re interested in this sort of thing--almost never bring up her nose job and instead focus on her lips. Anyway, discussion about her lips and nose is boring.

    That's it for now.

P.S. ednafrau, it’s nice to see you again!

Well, kids have probably seen it 1000x on the street anyway by complete strangers. It's down to parents to set examples to their kids - not Lana Del Rey (or any other celebrity). If David Bowie can smoke on stage, Lana Del Rey can too.
  16. IamThatGirlLily liked a post in a topic by CHARLIXCX in Tracklisting For Lana Del Rey’S Upcoming Re-Release, Born To Die: The Paradise Edition!
PopHatesFags is proud to present you with the tracklisting for Lana Del Rey’s upcoming re-release, Born To Die: The Paradise Edition! While we can’t offer you a definite order yet, we can give you the names of each song and a glimpse into the creation of some of the tracks.
‘Paradise’: From what we hear, this track is probably going to be the first on the album. Here Lana sets the tone of the rest of the album, which contrasts nicely with Born To Die - in fact, with ‘Paradise’, Lana has deliberately created a song that is the complete opposite of ‘Born To Die’. The song incorporates samples from her second single, starting with a few raspy “why?“‘s before launching into the song itself. Contrasting once more with the melancholy of Born To Die is the optimism we see in ‘Paradise’ - the lyrics are relatively happy for Lana as she sing’s, “You can run my heart, supersonic pop/Down, down, take you down to paradise”, and the track has an unexpected hint of electro-pop which makes it fun and exciting.
‘Ride’: This is probably going to be the first single off the album, and Lana was spotted shooting a video for it last week in the Valley of Fire in Nevada. While we haven’t heard this track yet, the fact that extras were wearing bikie gear and rode in on motorcycles might give you a hint as to the tone of the song.
‘Young and Beautiful’: While we haven’t heard a full version of this song yet, you can listen to a small snippet of it here. “Will you still love me when I’m not young and beautiful?” Lana asks - but instead of the resounding “no” we might have heard on Born To Die, here she counters with a “I think you will.”
‘Heart-Shaped Box’ - A cover of the Nirvana classic, this one was on Lana’s set when she toured Australia earlier this year, but we had no clue it would end up on her album until today. You can listen to Lana’s cover of the song here. In our opinion, it’s a perfect cover - it pays homage to the original while adding a spooky, etheral, typically Lana atmosphere to it.
‘I Sing the Body Electric’: Lana’s been performing this on her live set for quite some time and she officially confirmed it for inclusion on the album a while ago. While we’re still not quite sure Lana’s going on about here, we’re almost sure it’s a charming reference to Walt Whitman’s poem of the same name, which is all about the interconnectedness of the body and the mind. Listen to a live version of the song here.
‘Blue Velvet’: ‘Blue Velvet’ is a song that was originally recorded for Lana’s H&M campaign, although our source tells us that after recording the song she loved it so much she decided to include it on the album. The song was originally written in the 1950’s by Bernie Wayne and Lee Morris although has since been recorded by artists such as Tony Bennett. It’s possible that Lana’s liked this song for quite a while after she appropriated a line from it in ‘This Is What Makes Us Girls’ (“drinking cherry schnapps in the velvet night”). Here she speaks of eyes that were “bluer than velvet” and how she can “still see blue velvet through [her] tears”. You can listen to Tony Bennett’s version of the songhere, although you won’t have to wait long for Lana’s cover - it’s due out next Monday with a video two days after.
‘In The Land of Gods and Angels’: Lana’s been teasing this one for a while. “In the land of the gods and the angels, I was a monster,” she sings in the song, which she claims channels her inner Leonard Cohen.
‘JFK’: We don’t know much about this one yet, but it’s interesting to see how Lana’s obsession with JFK has grown. After paying homage to him with the ‘National Anthem’ music video, we’re quite intrigued to see what Lana has in store for us here.

She had to do a video in Las Vegas, Lana is very consistent in her taste: she loves Chateau Marmont, cars, is kinda obsessed with death, swimming pool etc... and she included all these items in her previous video. I expect neon light, chubby fake Elvis, strippers/gogo dancers, casinos, all packed in an old Vegas when mafioso were running the city.
