I was thinking, is Best American Record about G-Eazy? The song is apparently very close to White Mustang and we know that that one is about him. Could it be that Lana didn't release Best American Record because his record "wasn't even that good" so she would have felt uncomfortable putting out a song in which she endorses an album as the "Best American Record" that she doesn't even really like?

I think only voice notes. in her recent interview with C magazine she said she liked about L4L that she didn't record it while on the road - unlike with her previous records - and that made things feel more relaxed which she liked (which is weird because doesn't the story say that she made UV in peace away from the world too in some studio, idgi, it's a mess)
