I believe the original UV cover was scrapped because of an anti-smoking policy at the time. Just because it was a cigarette not because of drugs

I still don't understand why a label like Interscope, who has Gaga,Madonna, Fergie, etc. signed wouldn't want for Lana to release anything controversial ? Why not release the original UV video ? It could've gotten quite a lot of bad press but it wouldn't have hurt the album and single sales

Why wouldn't a record label want controversy for their artists ? A controversial music video for UV wouldn't have been bad press, if people talked about it, heard the song, saw the video the album could've done much better commercially.
I don't understand why Interscope would block the video but thought HBTB would be a good first single
