None of the post-Sucker material was remotely viable for success and Atlantic knew that. 1999 is one of the more GP friendly tracks, which is why they're probably going to promote it a little more. Charli relies upon her fans for music, she's not someone like Jess Glynn whose every single gets eaten up by the public, so there's no real point promoting or 'keeping a buzz' around her name. They tried this during the Sucker era and it (clearly) failed.

1) 1999 was made before 2002. 2) In what universe would TROYE be giving the record commercial success? If they wanted that, they would've gone for an actually big artist. 3) You assume that it was the label who made the song go through production stages. Charli herself could've easily been the one dissatisfied with the original version.

Even without speaking to any insiders, it's obvious that her label don't hate her. Post-sucker, they never forced her to release anything she didn't want to. Yes, she had to record Issues, Our Boyfriend etc when she didn't want to, but they never forced her to release any of the tracks. She hated Boys but chose to release it for the video she envisioned. Equally, they funded her studio time for stuff like Afterparty, Girls Night Out, Taxi etc. Notice how nobody is complaining about that. Atlantic aren't as evil as some of you portray them to be.

There is no “label wrestling match”. She is making & releasing music that she enjoys. She’s not “hit chasing”, she’s doing what she wants and the label supports her. You should support her too instead of trying to peddle the exhausted “poor Charli is a prisoner” narrative.
