the difference is that the former was an aesthetic most of her audience liked and/or identified with, and this one isn't. the connotations of each are totally different - one says 'tacky trailer trash 00s socialite bling', the other screams 'middle class conservative white lady without a sense of irony' (regardless of the actual intentions/irony behind it, if any) - and have to do with how she evolved as a person. it's such a departure that naturally some people won't like it, so it's really not that deep.

I used to listen to Lana pretty much every day.  But my apathy for this new record unfortunately has given me apathy for her in general.  Whenever I listen to the older stuff, I still like it, but now I only listen to her maybe once a week.  Really hoping I dig her next album, coz Honeymoon was the last record I really loved, and after L4L and NFR, I don't think my fandom could take another let down.

Completely and utterly correct! NFR is her second worst album behind LFL!!

To be fair a lot of the tacky Lizzy stuff was drenched in late aughts 'hipster' irony. It was purposely kitschy and camp. Unlike these tacky home goods signs which is just lana being a 30 something year old white lady lol.

As someone else posted, we don't know how much he knows about her past. It's not like I've ever told a new boyfriend within the first month or two of dating that I was an alcoholic. To many people, going to a beer fest is a very normal/date type thing too do. I know when I was dating my fiance I didn't disclose it right away and drank lightly when he took me out.

 

Besides all that, we dont know if she drank or not (yet) and even if she did, it's her life. One of the worst things for me as a former alcoholic is that weird stage when your inner circle is low key judging you the first time they see you with a beer in your hand and thinking your going to fall into a relapse and not understanding that you have gotten over it and can handle drinking normally like anyone else again.

Addicts shouldn't be treated as flower children if they are to successfully integrate into society without spiralling out of control. So many people drink, including many of her friends - she isn't going to avoid them or alcohol fuelled environments for the rest of her life just because she may be/is sober, period. People around her drink, whether it’s her friends/family/partners/people in the industry/her crowds. She’s around it more often than not & for now, seems to have a good handle on it at the moment. I hope that continues, if that’s the case. No one here knows how long she has been drinking again if that is the case and certainly cannot evaluate whether she's "gonna derail, she's fucked!!1!1" or not if she has.

I think Lana is all right. She doesn't deserve all the hate.
