she revealed earlier this year that she was sexually assaulted and had to sign an NDA which was part of the reason why she left / dropped from Interscope. Take this into account as well as her personal struggles (depression) and other things we don’t know about that she’s been battling for years and it basically gave her a reason to leave the industry altogether. Thankfully she’s doing better now (?) and is still writing songs & working on this upcoming album. She drops in and out of social media every few months so it’s extremely hard to track her progress since she doesn’t discuss music much besides the annual “new music this year, i promise!” but I hope one day she actually comes back with a legitimate single & album release. Rooting for her single “The Fool” still is such an incredible album.

this is what I thought too. Interscope probably said NO and so the EP was a compromise I assume, meanwhile she was deleting the tweets mentioning the whole demo dump idea.

basically? I don’t know what happened behind the scenes but maybe the label said no to her releasing an albums worth of outtakes from a 2015 project. Either way by her tweets it seems she’s really invested on going by the story that she recorded this all in one week in her room. Maybe she meant re-record? Since these songs are all like years old? otherwise...

glad she pushed the album up! The original release date always seemed like a placeholder since it was supposed to be released on a Tuesday... #JusticeForTrust & all that.

After enduring label issues, multiple setbacks and scrapped projects she has since broken ties with her previous labels and has moved to Epic Records and released her second EP, FOR CERTAIN in 2020. She's best recognized for featuring on J Balvin's "Safari", the Rihanna co-signed "Best on Earth" by Russ and the Nicki Minaj remix assisted "WHOLE LOTTA MONEY". The latter being her highest entry on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking in the top 20.

yes, i'm glad they gave her the freedom to release constantly on soundcloud or god knows what would have happened to the diehard doja fans, it's INSANE how they barely capitalised on the So High hype and then threw any remaining interest away after purrr! with the long wait All of this proved that she had it in her though, and look where she is now, I guess it paid off!

this post shows an old quote from her twitter saying her album was supposed to be released in 2015 and then... nothing? she just uploaded tons of demos onto soundcloud instead, 2016 just had more SoundCloud demos, same with 2017 (and at this point we can consider amala was mostly made during this year), nothing actually happened release wise for this album until 2018 with Roll With Us, Go To Town & Candy and then the eventual release of Amala which you can imagine was way different than the album she made in 2015 going by the demos she uploaded in 2015. Unfortunately her old soundcloud and twitter has been wiped entirely so it’s hard to judge on what exactly she was doing during the almost 4 year gap between Purrr! and Amala besides releasing demos but at least this shows we have confirmation there WAS an album supposed to be released in 2015. Her evolution did work out for her though!

I went searching for more early material and found a lot of material from a YouTube fan account called Doji Doj, it seems while she was in development hell she was releasing CONSTANTLY in 2015. a true shame her old SoundCloud was wiped before anyone saved anything that might have went unnoticed (such as a lost demo or 2 etc.) and she took tons of old material off of her current soundcloud. The fact wayback machine is wiped clean from anything before August 2018 :skull: most of the songs are rough demos but I found a few gems. crazy to see her artistic evolution though!

2 weeks i'm pretty sure! We all know how fast she can work (I mean 24 hour album, N1A, pop2 like cmon!!!) I'm very excited to see where she's going with this, I mean BJ BURTON??!??!
