you're right about the commercial appeal but writing a good script and the director transcending that script to film is an art not everyone can pull off. It's my opinion but I was just hoping for more, something a bit smart but yeah I guess she wants to make cash. I love that film, her understanding of time, Deren is amazing.

I didn't compare Tropico with Fellini! the only similarity there would be fantasy. I understood the synopsis, innocence lost, living in sin, cleansing of sin but the concept translated into film, is what I think is weak. Taking the red pill or the blue pill is like a clever metaphor for attaining the knowledge 'do you want to know the truth or don't you' whereas Tropico used the most obvious and oldest known example of loss of innocence, eating the apple. There is a saying if it's already been done, it's been done, you can only undo it. That's what the scene in the matrix did it was really clever. Just telling it like it is, isn't. I also don't get the Lynch influence on Lana, I don't see it myself, okay the H&M ad directed by Renck (Breaking Bad) but other than that how is Lynch relevant to Lana's work. He's a great example of a writer/director who so isn't literal. I come away from his work wondering what the fuck happened, every time. I think I might know what it's about but really I don't know if I do, that's why he's so great. He also writes and directs his films which is a large part of his success and he has been likened most to Tarkovsky in his style of direction and he sites Fellini and Tarkovsky as huge influences so yeah I don't get the whole Lynch/Lana thing. And Tarantino, okay so there's a bit of gangster stuff going on but he's most known for his non linear route, Tropico is really linear so I don't get that either. And as for living in the past when it was 'better and people were less corrupt, more kind'.......REALLY how far back were you thinking!!! I think slavery, corruption and greed etc…has been, since being conscious of its existence but I don't live in wonderland. It's great you got so much out of it ,it's just that I didn't I was expecting something different, for me it was literal and typical. I wasn't left thinking WTF just a bit meh really. It's my opinion.

I think he made that clear when he said "list me as the writer and Lana as the artist" that kinda says it all -

I thought that it has always been a suspicion that's been out there. A lot of people have said it even though Lana always denied it. -

He's a lyricist and sounds like he's pretty pissed for not getting credit for the lyric writing! he's asking for Lana to only be credited as the artist does this mean Lana doesn't really write her lyrics??!!? -

That's never gonna happen which, I'm happy about tbh but hey you've always got the original which can't get any better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6P0SitRwy8 -
The concept for the film is too literal, I'm not talking about the lyrics which are really obvious but basically what I watched was the 'film' conforming to the simplest, or most obvious meaning of the words. That, to me it too literal for film but I don't class this as film anyway it's more like 3 music videos playing consecutively and they are very literal. I studied/work in film and after watching great works by Tarkovsky, Fellini, Deren etc.., I guess I have pretty high expectations when it comes to film and I guess I expected more. It is time based media that has just been spelt out.

Lana Del Rey Nominated for 2 Grammys!
parkin replied to Manueldelrey's topic in Awards & Nominations
Everyone knows being nominated or wining a Grammy just means you’re a favorite among a bunch of music industry dinosaurs. They select people on album sales chart positions, or their connections in the industry. -
@@lola yeah you're right it's not just Kurt she clearly morphed into Marilyn Monroe's persona. It's a real mix of idol copying which she openly admits in the interview, I guess I pick up on the stuff I know about cause I don't really know about Elvis and Priscilla, although apparently Kurt was a fan. I just get the feeling that Barrie is just the same with the Kurt obsession, it freaks me out! Someone did a brilliant evolution pic of him on twitter how in the last couple of months he suddenly started dressing up like Kurt, it really pisses me off but at the same time I just think he's a complete twat, like Jared Leto mark II and I really hope they don't start ripping of his music etc...

@@lola I know a lot about Lana but a lot more about Kurt Cobain. She has referenced his ideas loads which, kind of pisses me off and as for Barrie starting to dress like Kurt lets not even go there!! For me there's way too much Kurt reference throughout her work almost like she tries to imitate him. I mean her and Barrie have pictures of him around their house and their not like teenagers Lana's nearly 30! and the comment about Kurt being their only friend, it does suggest more than a 'healthy' infatuation of him. I don't think he would have been that into her. By the way it wasn't just a childhood thing the aliens, he continued to paint aliens up until his death and referenced them in his lyrics. Every night I used to talk to my real parents and my real family in the skies....it was really fun to pretend that Elvis is my daddy, Marilyn’s my mother....Or at least I pretend.

...But Aliens completely fit with Kurt Cobain!!! and I think this was the inspiration, sadly as always misinterpreted by Lana. "I always wanted to think that I was an alien. I use to think when I was young that I was adopted by my mother because they found me, and a spaceship let me off, I was from a different planet. I wanted to be from a different planet really bad. Every night I used to talk to my real parents and my real family in the skies, [laughs] I knew that there were thousands of other alien babies dropped off and their all over the place and I’d met quite a few of them. It's just always something I liked to toy with in my mind, it was really fun to pretend that, you know that there's some special reason for me to be here and I feel really homesick all the time and so do the other aliens and I only had a chance to come across like a handful of the other aliens throughout the rest of my life. Eventually one day we'll find out what we're supposed to do." - Kurt Cobain. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=OZKr1BVMPi4 When I was an alien. Cultures weren't opinions

I don't get Lana's timings in her interviews, she said she hasn't had a drink for ten years but she said was drinking when she was in New York and her songs are about this period. She previously said she moved to NY at 18 so if she was born in 1986 and hadn't had a drink for 10 years she would have been 17 and not even living in NY but we know she was born in 1985 and she's 28 right now so she would have been 18 when she moved there like she said, but if she hasn't had a drink for 10 years she wouldn't have been drinking when she lived in New York. I don't know am I missing something? none of her interviews add up.

The cinematography is lovely but the concept is not genius, in fact it's so literal it's embarrassing and that's down to Lana which is what's sooooo disappointing
-
I didn't rate it either, her muse has truly gone

I've read on a few sites that the ep will be available as digital download, it includes the film along with the 3 tracks.
