  1. who's the dude she's with? new bf? haven't been following super closely but i was p sure she wasn't with elias anymore, so i guess this confirms it
  2. i don't think she'll win SOTY bc NFR (song) didn't have nowhere near the mainstream projection / appeal as some of the others on that list (namely Truth Hurts & Bad Guy) but bias aside i2sg she's the most deserving nom in the AOTY list. if she doesn't win that, i'll be really disappointed.
  3. what, and i can't stress this enough, the fuck. animal products don't ~already exist~, there's a whole industry associated with them and new products are made every single day because there's a market for them. the environmental implications are huge, from the massive carbon footprint of animal farming to destroying ecosystems hunting endangered animals for their furs. and that's leaving aside how these animals are treated/killed/disposed of, basic empathy-wise. the issue with clothing & pollution/environmental impact goes a lot deeper than just "but fur is natural and faux fur is plastic!!". that's a cop-out that conveniently disregards all the other issues related with fast fashion in general. is it better to buy a real second hand fur coat or a cheap mass produced one that comes from a sweat shop in bangladesh? similarly, is it better to buy a good quality faux fur coat that will last you 20 years or a real one that directly contributes to an unethical, cruel & polluting industry? and do you even really need a fur coat at all, faux or otherwise? personally, i wouldn't wear fur at all out of personal conviction, second hand or not, but those are the types of questions that need to be asked.
  4. i mean, basically? the fact that she's fucking a cop should've been the only clue we needed. if in this ~blue lives matter~ day and age she doesn't care about what being a cop means, i'm not holding my breath for the strength of her other moral convictions tbh.
  5. i don't even think it's her marketing team that dictates it, imo she just goes through phases (the political phase, the witchcraft phase, the silver lake lifestyle phase, the vegetarian phase, etc. etc.) but they're always pretty surface level because they never last very long, thus all the contradictions and actions that don't match her past words. this being said, i also agree that she doesn't give a shit about social movements, not really.
  6. she looks fine. she's just not wearing any eye makeup (including eyelash extensions or falsies) and that makes her eyes look a lot smaller which dramatically changes her face.
  7. that coat's a dream, especially if it's ankle length! but what her left eye is doing in that pic is freaking me out, lol.

it's not fine to take advantage of someone's generosity by putting them in an uncomfortable situation just to get likes & RTs, not to mention it's a fucking disrespectful way to treat someone they supposedly like?! why is it always men who pull this kind of crap, ffs.
  9. it also infiltrated her life then - arguably even more, bc she was virtually unknown & living her life for herself and not for an audience (at least def not a big one) when she was lizzy. the difference is that the former was an aesthetic most of her audience liked and/or identified with, and this one isn't. the connotations of each are totally different - one says 'tacky trailer trash 00s socialite bling', the other screams 'middle class conservative white lady without a sense of irony' (regardless of the actual intentions/irony behind it, if any) - and have to do with how she evolved as a person. it's such a departure that naturally some people won't like it, so it's really not that deep.
  10. this, and/or the best mugshot of all time: david bowie's
  11. the sign lmao. but tbf she's always been, like, 25% basic bitch & proud, and that's also why we love her so imma let it slide
  12. for the record, i never complained. she was living the silver lake lifestyle & i actually thought it was cute! but now we're stuck with this soccer mom, cop dating, church going bullshit!!!
  13. the issue is, we're talking about music critics when validation re: a poetry book would need to come from literary peers, not the pitchforks of the world - otherwise she could just release a glorified lyric book and call it a day. i mean, sure, she's primarily a musician so of course the music press would have something to say, but literary review mags (the paris review actually published a review of NFR, btw) & influential writers and poets would be the ones to ultimately make or break her book & basically her legitimacy as a poet. i don't think hypothetical comparisons would reference halsey & other contemporary musical peers, but people like joni, dylan, cohen aka other established musician/poets that she associates herself with - and even in the context of her universally acclaimed album, we know how unflattering those comparisons can turn out to be (ann powers comes to mind).
  14. agreed. she's riding a good wave of critical consensus & releasing a book that the lit world could ridicule would def be a big blow. i also don't think self-publishing is a good idea; i mean, i can see why she'd want to do it all on her own terms, but if she's in any way concerned about how it will be received (and imo she def is), self-publishing is a huuuge gamble & p much guarantees that at least some people will call it ~the self-indulgent endeavor of a bored pop star~ or something similar. she should get a mentor (if she hasn't already) and an editor, like, bad.
  15. i don't think she's abandoning the idea for good tbh. she clearly considers herself a poet, jim morrison style, and prob wants to legitimize that by actually publishing a book. maybe it won't be the self-published $1 violet etc. one she announced, but i'm p convinced she's gonna drop a poetry book sooner than later.
  16. @@AnarKissed thanks so much, added! and thanks in general for all y'all's contributions, i'm happy that i made this thread bc we're creating a pretty decent listing of Lana related literature. i added another rec myself: Lithium For Medea, by Kate Braverman. no idea if Lana ever read this book or any of her other work, but it has so many elements that relate to her/her music's themes - addiction, toxic/dysfunctional romances, complicated mother/daughter relationships, Los Angeles (specifically Venice) - that i wouldn't be surprised if she did. anyway, Kate Braverman died like 2 days ago which is why i remembered this now.
  17. thanks! added these + the one from her latest ig post with sean lennon, there's 2 i really love that immediately came to mind. the 1st is called The Invisible Circus by Jennifer Egan (who later went to win a Pulizter for another book); it's set in the early to mid 70s, so immediately after the summer of love, but it's about a girl coming to terms with the death of her sister (not a spoiler, this is a known fact from the beginning) who was a quintessential San Francisco hippie, so there's a lot of flashbacks to that era. it's a really good coming of age story that deals with loss, complicated family dynamics & traveling as self-discovery. there's even a movie adaptation that's pretty terrible considering the source material but kind of a guilty pleasure for me lol the 2nd was released this year, it's called America Was Hard To Find and it's by one of my fave young writers, Kathleen Alcott. it's kind of a family saga: it follows a woman, Fay, a hippie who joins a violent leftist group in the 60s; a man, Vincent, who's an alt history version of the 1st man on the moon & with whom she had an affair; and their son Wright up until his young adulthood, dealing with both his parents' legacies and his own identity. it goes from 60s counterculture to 80s gay AIDS-era San Francisco. it's incredible, stayed with me for a really long time.
  18. my exact thoughts!! Lana looks hot af in the vid, and so does Miley, so that moment was . could take or leave Ariana tho. mhm, one of the reasons why this video works so well is the fact that they kept each of the singer's individuality & specific vibe. like, only Ariana could do Ariana's part, and so on. they didn't try to homogenize the 3 girls into a one-size-fits-all kinda video, which was the #1 thing i was afraid of since the song was announced bc Lana in particular really stands out from the other 2.
  19. shoutout to the subtle electric guitar chords during the 2nd refrain of HIAB which give me chills every single time & totally elevate the song
  20. the cover is stunning. love the tent "filter" in all the photos. sadly, that's such a common mindset among liberals and some so-called leftists; it's a pitiful mix of ignorance and privilege. this slogan comes to mind: anyway, not wanting to get political on lb (never again, lol), but i truly make a conscious effort to ignore most of what lana says about politics & current affairs or i'd probably lose respect for her.

  22. i'd just assumed she was gonna put out a chapbook, maybe a couple hundreds of them, and call it a day. they're cheap to make, so it was compatible with the $1 price + dropping them in small libraries around LA. i also hope she releases it in some form soon.
