    What about all these children
    And all their children's children
And all their children's children's children
    And all their children's children's children's children

That actually makes no sense to me. I'm not even going to talk about myself or my friends, like okay maybe we're just a bunch of dysfunctional weirdos with terrible luck when it comes to relationships. But almost every person I've known/talked to -real life acquaintances, people in online forums/groups- has been in a toxic or at the very least highly unpleasant relationship. Drama is not rare. Fighting is not rare. Verbal and psychological abuse is not rare. Physical abuse isn't either, sadly. Alcoholism, drug addiction? Rampant.

Lana might have made all of that up. But for many people, it's real life. It's what they wake up to every single day. And it's exhausting. It's depressing. There's nothing glamorous or sexy about it. I realize that anything can be a kink, and I am aware that there are people who fetishize and glamorize abusive/dead-end/failed relationships, for whatever reason. But I'm having trouble believing -or, I don't want to believe- that most people here or most LDR fans in general feel that way. Like, is this what we're doing here? Really? God.

I'm sorry if I'm sounding like a bitch, but honestly, I'm mad and upset.

absolutely, i mean for a start she really isn't the first to do this. in fact it's quite a traditional approach, which is i think what separates her from a lot of other artists and as you say, why i found her interesting in the first place. she's a dreamer and her 'thing' is escape, she moves through decades and subcultures, some that are long gone and romanticises everything. what's funny too is how obvious that seems as a concept?! others haven't done it like her though. she clearly feels little pressure to be 'current', as others have said it's probably why an indie label would be more suited to her

problem here though is the definition of 'rich' which can be very subjective, did she not do this simply because she spent years not talking to her parents?

ok well on the topic of fake/non-fake storytelling, here are some stories and personas i would like lana to address on the upcoming album:

    - being a contestant on the bachelor
    - seducing the guy at the cvs counter as a minor in order to get him to sell her bronkaid without an id to supply her meth den
    - the woes of being a starbucks barista and how a mocha caramel frappucino is a metaphor for god and love and metaphysics
    - being hopelessly in love with a tik tok star
    - getting wine drunk at a pta meeting

oh god just punch me in the gut lol. like it's just a caricature for her to try on. i know i shouldnt feel this strongly about Elizabeth and her music but it's been like 7 years of LDR soundtracking my life now and im running out of songs to listen to.  is it time to stan a new rich liar??

same. obviously i'm not suggesting this is true of everyone who is a fan but...... she strikes a chord because i think a consistent theme in her lyrics is denial. she often talks about horrible things and highlights the "beautiful" or "glamorous" aspects of them, which in hindsight is incredibly fucked up. and.. it's also easy for someone who can easily remove themselves from those situations to do that, but it's also something people stuck in them often have to do. so.. it probably creates this weird discord between people who glamorise things they've never known because they're able and those who have HAD to

you know i think this is the reason why i am losing interest in Lana this era.. i guess when she came out i thought / wanted to believe that she actually lived that life. from her vague talking ab doing social work, living on the road, fucking daddies to get by, etc. i thought there was a genuine element.  or i wanted to believe that bc it made her music meaningful.  i dont know her experience, but the way i connected to some of her music made me feel like she must have understood some of the things about the actual tiring gritty way of life of the working poor and the street people and stuff, and how society sets people up for doom gloom and failure, even if you could be a hollywood glamorous pop star or whatever. and like seeing the way she is acting these days with her empty on-brand bougie friends and her cha cha matcha obsession and her lack of depth makes me think it is all absolutely fake, which sucks but is most likely true.  and i have permanent side-eye for Lana as of this era.

this is deeefffffinitely true for me, and its one of the reasons i connected with Lana's music. bc "sometimes life is hard" and if you can turn that into something meaningful or darkly beautiful then youre doing something deeper than just having a bad experience at life

you're not being too sensitive at all! it's personal and it's deeply painful and as you said, everyone deals with these things differently. it absolutely will annoy me if it ever comes out officially that this was all entirely a character of hers. i.. would say though this is probably one of the main questions there is about lana and why her authenticity has been questioned a lot, aside from people wondering if she writes her own songs

I'm sorry, I'm probably just being too sensitive, but it infuriates me. This is how I feel and I can't help it. I understand what you're saying, it might not be a healthy coping mechanism but I'm definitely not in a position to judge, considering my own unhealthy coping mechanisms. We don't all deal with trauma the same way. But the thought of someone NOT having any of that trauma and NOT having suffered through any of these situations, appropriating all that pain to create a ~ tRaGiC & bEaUtiFuL~  damsel in distress persona to tug at people's heartstrings and/or sell albums makes me sick to my stomach. Or just thinking it's "cool", like what the actual fuck

Exactly. Now I feel people like me are just a joke to her. Gutter bitches, sickos with gutter lives that only matter when she decides to imitate us. I'm so disappointed in myself for turning a blind eye to her culture vulture and trauma tourist ways.

Huh we all thought sis was being lazy, but it looks like Lana's plan to be more appealing to new demographics like straight men or conservatives is working full force.

look i do not know Lana's life or experience, so whether or not she's fake is a question maybe only she knows the answer to.  i'm just saying i believed her, i thought she really lived that life.  i know that artists are not holding a video camera up to their lives to show a completely realistic depiction of what they've been thru, but in my opinion- most *good* art is informed by real experience.  and who knows how real Lana's experience with the "underbelly of America" or whatever is.  we don't know.

but i for one am totally cool with discussing this bc theres nothing else to discuss because we are never getting the album.  what's wrong with that? it's critical thinking ab art and meaning and authenticity and trauma and beauty and life.  i dont get why certain topics are off limits.  ive always been more interested in Lana for her musical depth and what her art seems to represent than just a "yasss kween we stan" pop star

no one said she didn't have problems. you're purposefully not reading what's been said, we were specifically talking about trauma and her potentially covering subjects there's no indication she has personal experience of as part of a 'persona'
being denied financial support but also knowing you conditionally have financial support to fall back on if you make lifestyle changes is entirely different from socioeconomic based poverty where you die in the gutter with no other options, so yes.. although it was bad for her it DOES sound privileged compared to a lot of others circumstances sorry

I don't remember everything she's ever said, but yes, I have.

It's hard to believe she was never commercially driven. Her constant attempts to make it in the music industry and her obsession with fame indicate otherwise. You're right, she had no way of knowing for sure that she was going to blow up, but that was the plan nonetheless. A plan that had failed before, and could have failed again. But it didn't. In 2010-2011, she wasn't living in a trailer cooking meth & waitressing at Ruby Tuesday's, minding her own business and making videos just for fun. She was making moves. She was meeting with producers, managers, label executives, etc, going from NY to London to LA and back. She didn't wake up to millions of views on her VG video and Jimmy Iovine outside her door begging her to sign a contract. Success didn't happen overnight. She planned it, she worked for it, and she went to great lengths to achieve it.

Did I say she was the first to do it? Or the only one? She definitely revived (lel) that trend, but it's been around for centuries, and I think everyone knows that.

well let’s see... the weird vocal filter is trash, the production doesn’t fit (pseudo-trap??) and the lyrics sound like she made them up in 20 mins, don’t even seem to go with the song.

i was going through the album with a friend because we were arguing on whether it was a good album or not and i realized i only like 8 out of the 16 songs.... which is half the album idk it would’ve been improved immensely for me if she just threw away all the collabs other than sb/groupie love (those should have been singles) and never even have thought of coachella. and maybe just have white mustang as a leaked unreleased track but i’m just nitpicking now. it’s really collabs/coachella that need to go
