  1. Totally agree. Fortunately, she actualy stated that although it's sorta in the same aethetic, it's in a different direction and has a clarity of inner diologue. So maybe it'll be like a better version lf 'Honeymoon'.

I love HM, but I would love to see her doing something different, I mean, new aesthetic, new lyrics, etc.... I wouldn't like to see more of the same or a "better version of HM", you know?

  2. btd's production missed some points here and there (radio, lolita..) but it's not as if they did a great job on hm. that lq filter on her vocals on half of the songs just adds to the receptiveness of the instrumentals and lyrics. additionally the whole record sounds so "muddy" and not clear when i read that lana (an amateur at mixing) was involved in the mixing i wasn't surprised at all.

which doesn't mean there's no good moments on hm but the dull lq production and repetitive feel is kind of a turn off to listen to hm.

It have some fails, but I still think that HM fails on the lyrics, but not in the production, I mean, it sounds more "clear", more natural, idk, I mean, that's all my opinion, I do like the trip-hop beats, the baroque pop influence and even the jazzy/noir atmosphere in some songs. I still think that for a lot of ppl, BTD sounds like a publicity stunt or something like this. I just think that the producers took Lana's job and wanted to make something more radio friendly, but it harmed the whole album concept and I think that even Lana didn't liked the final product (I always read on this site that there's a interview that she says something about TIWMUG). Of course, that's just my opinion!

  3. AKA has some beautiful instrumental. Reminds me of the sea & ocean (the man I love, jump, gramma, oh say you can see, put me in a movie, kill kill, for K).

I adore 50% of songs in honeymoon but the others are too monotonous for me (God Knows I tried, Honeymoon, 24). C'mon how can you place it above Born to Die (Blue Jeans, Off to the Races, Video Games, Dark Paradise) the production is iconic!

Well, I like BTD, but I do not like what they've did with the album. Sometimes it sounds overproduced, you know? I mean, I'm always in the mood to listen to something from uv, honeymoon or even AKA, but I'm not always in the mood to listen to btd. TIWMUG is a good example, I mean, we have a good story/lyrics, but the song is overproduced (I still like it tho). Sometimes, I think that some of the BTD demos are way better than the final version (DMD, Lolita and TIWMUG are great examples).

  4. for me, who's not a big fan of HM. i still think that HM is not just an album that's just released for no reason.

i always think that HM is Lana trying to do a very intimate project with a few people only, and trying to maintain high control on the music production process, that's why she co-produced the entire album and only had two other people to make this album.

and this is the album showing that her theme might evolve a little bit, to a more complex character. a more independent woman who can take control and live her life free

    I agree w/ you 100%

  5. IDK, P!nk for example is definitely a mainstream artist who makes pop/pop-rock music, yet she has songs like My Vietnam, I Have Seen The Rain and of course Dear Mr. President, which was a huge radio hit and a commercial success in Europe and Australia.

    This!

Just because something is more pop/radio-friendly doesn't automatically mean it's bad. If anything, Born To Die's 7M sales prove how good it is and how many people liked it.

I think that P!nk is one of those few artist who can do this! But, I mean, you can't say that a album is good bc it sold 7M copies, if we assume that the numbers of sales represents the quality of the album, then Justin Bieber must be a music genius.

I really like metacritic bc they use the most diverse critics to make an average score. http://www.metacritic.com/person/lana-del-rey

  6. Well, we are a discussion forum and we can say when we dislike something.

I srsly hope she would have a return to form in terms of songwriting like on BTD which was miles better and more inspired and filled with life than on HM. I also really hope she is still capable of making choruses that she is nailing and where just doesn't repeat the title over and over. And yes, i still hope she has a bridge in her like on Blue Jeans.

I hope for better writing and a lil bit more excited delivery and overall more drive. She is in her early 30's, not in her 60's.

I agree with you! BTD have some beautiful lyrics, while Honeymoon is kinda repetitive

  7. The most commercial doesn't mean it's worse than HM, because it isn't.

Ppl on here really need to stop bashing BTD for no reason. First of all, without it none of you would be here and secondly, it doesn't send you in a coma like HM did. BTD is a classic and rightfully so. HM is just there for the sake of just being out.

As I've said, I really do  love btd, and it's a really important album to me. But honeymoon is amazing (I mean, UV is her best, then comes Honeymoon and AKA) and I think it's waaaay better than BTD, I mean, Lana had more control in the whole project, idk, it feels more "natural" to me. I do like btd, but I think it's just an album to introduce Lana to the media and all that stuff

  8. I agree. Also it's a bit stupid but I think you can't really make political music in what's considered "mainstream pop", like for my presentation I saw that what describes music as pop is generally the subject of love and romance, the technical writing and the fact that it has dance as a purpose. You can always sing whatever you want on a song but it has an influence to the public you reach and want to reach. So I think that when pop artists, it automatically gets alternative, as you're saying; people take you more seriously if you're in the right genre, basically? Even though I never cared about genres, I love what I love, but in the case of music destined to be sold at the biggest possible scale, it's very important. Maybe it's time to reconsider if she's really pop then, because if her or her label still pretend she's pop (and I don't think at all she does), then maybe it can explain the sales or the critics reactions.

I don't think that Lana is pop, but I don't think that she's alternative either. I think that she's somewhere between pop and alternative. I mean, she flirts w/ both genres all the time.

  9. Wow I have a music and design workshop and I had to do a presentation on pop music design and my teacher immediately said Lana was "morbidly depressive" before I even started. Like it can be seen as true but did I ask?? There was 36 covers why'd she pick her out I don't even wear my sweater :toofunny: It's 2017, why do people still think this of Lana, she's either catalogued as sugary vintage bohème or straight ass slow and depressive, literally one of the reasons I love her music that much is because of the variety of styles, ok it's a dominant trait in her released albums to not be particularly fast music but it's so cliché and boring. I want LD5 to be more pop or at least have electronic / boppy vibes  because I'm tired as hell of people having a negative opinion of her because they only see the aspects of her music that's visible on most cliché released songs, I want Lana to show them she's so much more than that, even though she doesn't have to justify herself. She's said so many times in interviews how much she cares about the critics opinions and how much it affects them, to the point of wanting to look as normal as possible. Well I want her to be herself and maybe it's being slow and depressive, yes, it might be, but I want her to be unapologetic about that and use it against people that condemn her, and I think LDR5 might be about, I think it started with Honeymoon, this idea of very lowkey empowering, like "I'm submissive but it's because I chose it because I love it and I'm taking control back over my fame". I think she's changing as well; her clothing style is changing, she's much more political, she's taking much more time to get this album out; I think it's just the machinery that got in place perhaps after the Born To Die backlash and kept on with Ultraviolence that's starting to be visible.

It's not to Lana to apologize to the critics, she doesn't has to apologize to anyone and if her music is like this then so be it, as long as she's happy to make it, I'm fine with anything, and even if one day I don't relate to her or appreciate her musically, I just hope that she'll continue being happy and do what is true to her above everything else because it's one of the biggest lessons she taught me

I think that only a few artists can make political pop songs without looking like a commercial trick, you know? If she goes to something more alternative, it may sound more genuine. And I think that ppl want her to do a lot of pop music bc it's easy to sell. I don't think that Lana wants to be known as a commercial artist with no depth or something like this.

  10. I wonder if it will be more stripped down than Honeymoon! It seems she's been going for that throughout her discography. Part of her maturing=editing her sound. I'm hoping for a very ambient, reverb sound. Like a mix between UV and HM, definitely still keeping drums of sorts and possibly hip hop influence!

I think that trip-hop beats would fit very well if she were doing some kind of a mix between HM and UV. But I think that she's working in something different. I don't know what to expect
