The structure and the way she sings in this song reminds me a little bit of Regina Spector~
It reminds me of Emilie Autumn's "Mad girl" or "Gaslight", maybe more to the last one because of the waltz vibe

Ok, maybe not "trash" but at least NFR doesn't have lyrics such as "I'm a sad girl, i'm a sad girl, I'm a bad girl, i'm a bad girl"
Yet NFR found space to host fucking party dresses again. So not much better.

Anyone who thinks this shit topped Ultraviolence needs to listen to Ultraviolence again to refresh their memory
Feeling quite conflicted right now about the album. Like it doesn't make sense at all for the moment.

Now that some of you have listened to the leaks and know full songs, which NFR songs do you think she'll add to the upcoming leg of the BTD tour?
That's a good question. Most of the songs on NFR have such a weird production that they'll have to be rearranged to work for a live performance (as they did with most of VB). And I'm also curious about which the lineup and the stage will be for the NFR concert. It doesn't sound like a band-oriented album, and the dancers would do like zero sense. By the way, NFR title track (plus a little intro) would be an incredibly beautiful opener.

not complaining but has someone noticed little things on the production? there are parts in some of the songs i feel like the production breaks loud at the same time that her voice and i can't hear her (her diction i think) properly, and the other thing is that in 2 or 3 songs i've noticed the chorus breaks without any transition and i think it doesn't sound good, im ok with it but just asking
The production is, at least, controversial. I've noticed many of the things you are pointing, but I guess they were made absolutely on purpose. As well, Lana uses her voice in a way that sounds as she was deeply drugged during most of the recordings -which I think may be actually the reason behind it-. She sings as she doesn't care at all, as if no one is listening to her, and I think that makes the album absolutely special. This has nothing to do with anything she's done before, not even her Lizzy songs. I'm really willing to read the reviews by the big media critics. I guess they won't know how the fuck react to this album either.

OMG! Did somebody say "potato?" Ummm Buttery!
Lana's really serving us those leaks!
I just can't with this thread. Each epic post is more epic than the last one

Thank you for reminding me that. I need to make an appointment at venerologist´s tomorrow.
Don't know how to quote both posts, but this one and the one you were answering to are absolutely The Greatest I've ever read here. There aren't words to say how much I'm laughing.

Hey. Finally sucumbed and gave it a listen. The level of sadness in the album... She sounds like she is absolutely gone from this world, just looking at it through a blurry periscope. Don't know if I may be the only one getting this feeling towards it, but it may be -if not the- one of the saddest musical projects I've ever listened to. I'm even happy that she's been hanging out with her baddie friends for a year and taking some distance from the things that made her produce this heartbreaking and beautiful thing. I wasn't ready for this. And I'm willing to see what the media that has done fun of her "sadness" till now will have to say about NFR.

dw this might explain it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_reversal

It was difficult to avoid the tentation of listening to the leaked tracks in that horrible quality but I finally did. The reason was basically the snippets that we heard days ago and the snippets Lana herself posted.
The conclusions are that this is definitely Lana’s best album to date. The melodies are simply magical and her voice shines more than ever. Instrumentals are her best since UV and the production (even in bad quality) is tremendous.
So, this is what I think about the new tracks:
1. NFR: This will probably be my favourite title track when I listen in good conditions. The piano is beautiful and the strings add something magical to the song. One of my favourites.
2. FIILY: From the snippet it was a track I didn’t paid attention to. In full is amazing. The last minute reminds me a lot of God Bless America last chorus with all the voices mixed and the beautiful melody. A standout.
3. Love Song: AMAZING. Seriously guys. Saying this song is bad or filler is a hard lack of taste. The melody of the chorus is one of the best in the album. Can’t wait to hear it in good quality.
4. Cinnamon Girl: Another perfect track. Basically we had it almost in full but the outro is stunning. This could have been a perfect lead single.
5. California: I have to confess that the snippet didn’t do anything to me. But the whole thing is good, really good. Not my favourite tune but it’s going to be for sure a fan favourite.
6. TNBAR: exactly the same as the demo with new lyrics. I don’t think it’s ruined as some of you stated but the demo lyrics were better. I loved the demo and I love this too.
7. The Greatest: literally the greatest song of the album. Perfect from the beginning to the end. The lyrics left me breathless. I just wished a final chorus with that perfect melody rather than the outro. But still a solid 10.
8. Bartender: Maybe some of you jump to me but I don’t like it at all. I mean, it’s good but probably my least favourite track in the record. I will try it again when good quality.
9. HIAB: love it. Never got the hate for this song and now Lana proved you wrong with this track. The strings are everything I needed in this song.
So, here we have a perfect album. I can’t believe Lana would serve this after all the mess of an era she started since MAC release. By the way, HTD is still that bitch even though the change in production.
Is the album enjoyable in the quality it's circulating? I mean, does it worth the thing to listen it? I'm troubled about that right now, as I haven't done it yet and fear to take the courage to go and listen and then wanting to kill myself if the quality is that awful.

Yes!! Lmaooo I was just going to say that. LMAO
It's a lovely album.
It reminds me a bit of Julia Jacklin and Sufjan Stevens... Very beautiful!

Does anyone else get Goldfrapp's "Seventh Tree" vibes on the title track? Or is it just me?.
Didn't know about this album till now, but being the first song named "Clowns", surely you'll be right! -Loving it, by the way-

knowing those dynamics doesn't prevent me from joking about what the set of values that was imposed through education conveyed concerning doing things for others without necessarily involving money while being totally aware of the regime's reality and huge discrepancies with this theory and in no way defending it
but i'm glad it's a topic that you feel so deeply close to
Sure there may be thousands of critics to be made against certain aspects of communist theory, and more concretely, against the de facto functioning of socialist countries. Sure we could even share many of them. Anyway, the level of propaganda and false facts that circulate against anything that contestates neoliberalism is absurd. Not saying you are on that stream -as I said, noticed you were joking-, but I tend to react anytime I see something that could end on that kind of reasoning. My excuses if you felt I overreacted or whatever, and also glad that you are keen on this topic too!

i'm wondering if Lana had forgotten she had already used that 'Topanga's hot tonight' line in Heroin because that'd be her style
as a Russians' child i surely know about it
Would be amazing if being a russian's son/daughter made you (I mean, anybody) aware of the dynamics there during soviets union time's. Glad to know that it's that way on your case!
-
during the Soviet era they were communist and would've done it for free
bOrN iN tHe WrOnG gEnErAtiOn
Not the second world power -first by some parameters- becoming that by doing things for free. Surely you were joking, but needed to be pointed xd

HQ teas
Tell me it didn't happen, please. The situation was already horrible, but it leaking in hq just would take it to the next -and maybe the last?- level.

Pre release thread is locked so sharing my thoughts here:
I gave in lmao. Listened only to the tracks I sort of knew already though, to test out the quality on something I already knew. Listened to Cinnamon girl, NFR, HIAB and TNBAR.
The quality is indeed really bad, but now I don't have a hunger to listen to the other songs which is awesome, I can wait for them in peace now till the 30th even though I haven't heard them lol.
The verses and the fucking bridge in TNBAR are the same, we WON. (well, the chorus's lyrics are not that great but it's still nice)
HIAB indeed has a much richer production towards the end which makes me appreciate it a little more, Still one of the weaker tracks for me, no bridge or anything, just what we've heard so far
NFR- I can't fucking wait to listen to this in HQ, all the strings culminating are HEAVEN. It's quite a simple track. Spoiler alert:
The snippet Lana posted on instagram of this song was pretty much the entire song. Those are the first verse and chorus, after the chorus the instrumental continues with her singing blueee, then right back to second verse and chorus and then again, the instrumental with Lana singing stuff, siren style, this instrumental part is longer since it's basically a long outro. The better new thing about this track is the intro, which is just amazing
No bridge for Cinnamon either. Verse-chrous, verse-chorus, the chorus again in higher register(this can be considered the bridge though it's just the chorus) and then instrumental break all the way till the end.
Why is the NFR thread locked?
-
Why do y'all want to listen to a phone recording of her new album... Nothing to be even enjoyed from such bad audio quality.

this album is incredible
Cinnamon fxcking goes off. The only thing that's changed in BAR is the pre-chorus and chorus - everything else is the same. The verses and the bridge are the same, as they kept the glass shattering thing from the bridge to the last chorus
the strings in HIAB are STUNNING.
So the album has officially leaked in full length.

I think it's one of the few songs of the album that could have a consistent structure.
