One of my favorite quotations is:

"Ask yourself these three questions... and you will know who you are. Ask: What do you believe in? What do you hope for? What do you love?"
    - Paullina Simons

    So I would ask Lana:
    1. What do you believe in?
    2. What do you hope for?
    3. What do you love?

Born To Die was better than Ultraviolence.

Her old demos were the absolute best, though.

So overall, ULTRAVIOLENCE is an amazing record, I love it so much even though it was an adjustment from BTD.

There's something that has just weirded me out about this whole new era of Lana! Did anyone notice how different her approach shifted from West Coast to the rest of the album? The West Coast single cover is classic, like her name on the top and the title at the bottom, the colors are bright (blues / yellows / whites,) and then, suddenly, we get black and white pictures for the rest of the era with no names on anything. Also, she said Neil's photography inspired her to change the track list. Does anyone feel like these changes were literally made after West Coast was released? I love the art of ultraviolence and the whole feel, but I feel like things changed suddenly. I've just been thinking about how different Ultraviolence could've been if it wasn't for certain things (not that I'd want it to be different!) I just found that interesting.

lel @ katy though. her 15 minutes is probably almost up - she'll run out of cultures to appropriate soon enough.

If she knew the name "Alexis" that means she's actually reading Ultraviolence reviews

I think Lana, like most singers, have a range of stock melisms or melody fragments that she just belts out when improvising.

I don't know about the writing process of all her songs, but judging from what she said about Video Games she comes up with a lot of the melodies on the spot, so every now and then those stock melodies find their way in to several songs.

I.e. a little phrase that comes up in both Ride and Black Beauty:

    At 1:19

    At 2:42

I think she also has an affinity for certain chord progressions, like the one in Blues Jeans and the chorus of Cola. I hear a little bit of that in Ultraviolence as well.

I've always felt like many of Lana's songs don't have a solid melody, and I don't mean this in a bad way, but it's like they're so ethereal and fragile they're not well defined, so many of the songs tend to sound alike even when they don't actually do...
I don't know if this makes any sense, but after hearing the Brooklyn baby snippet I couldn't remember the exact melody and only after hearing it again I could figured it out. The melody is so soft and simple it escapes my mind

I love her laptop recordings so much. In some ways, I actually prefer them to Born To Die (the album).

It seems like she had such a comfortable life as Liz. Hanging out in dat darn trailer park, wearing wigs and making videos, writing songs.... Just being a general menace. And then the occasional social work... Pretty sweet life.

She's one of the hottest artist out there today.

It annoys me whenever people hate on her the only thing they can hate on her for is her lips.

It took me a while for her lips to grow on me.

I don't like the fact that she smokes.
