  1. I recently finished reading My Dark Vanessa

The author is a Lana fan confirmed. She made a playlist that is supposed to accompany the book’s scenes and she added 3 songs (hope, Off To The Races, Mariners). Imo she could’ve added Cinnamon Girl too

but basically if you dig around the author’s social media, she references Lana a lot

If you liked MDV i recommend Excavation by Wendy C. Ortiz– a similar story but a non-fiction memoir (it's really good). And def big Lana circa BTD vibes.

  2. thinking about the first face to face charli show (whenever that is...might be literal years from now) after quarantine and how insane it's gonna be, opening w anthems would be beyond

  3. is the new caption about VBBOTG...

i really fucking hope so!! dying for a real release date. thinking she went through another series of edits bc of signing w simon & schuster/getting an editor there maybe.

  4. Donations are useful for legal procedures but other then that ? I hate this American mentality when politics is about funneling your money into obscure gofundme pages never to hear about its actual effects

i agree that just pumping money into things isn't the answer, but these bail funds are grassroots efforts that are literally helping remove people from jail (a violent and harmful place under normal circumstances and even more dangerous re covid). abolishing the prison system is directly connected to abolishing police, both racist and classist systems that disproportionately affect black folks.

  5. not for nothing but lana has profited off of black art forms (namely trap) and the literal least she could do is at least post a link to donate to bail funds in MN. i am not surprised that she hasn't but it's so sad (and generally emblematic of white fragility) that her response to all the recent drama has been to be incredibly defensive and angry rather than acknowledging that there are valuable things to be learned from her incredibly ill-stated comments.

  6. after a few listens i love alice, 911, sour candy, stupid love, plastic doll, babylon and rain on me– though i do think the production is weirdly uninspired and very same-same throughout the album (which some folks are saying makes it really cohesive but i'm finding makes the album feel like it lacks texture). the rest will maybe grow on me– 1000 doves and fun tonight are my two least favs rn. it's a fine album, and i'm certainly going to continue to listen (and dance) to it, but it doesn't come close to BTW or Artpop, both of which i adore and feel like no one else could have made.

  7. on second thought i think lana should post something... it's wrong not to and she'll be raising awareness any way people take it. she was talking about black reparations before well get on your feet girl cmon

i don't think she'll say anything– she seems really angry and defensive (ie the last video) which makes me think she's not likely to share anything political or vulnerable (though you're right, she should anyway). also, tbh, she has never posted anything about BLM (i don't think) and i hardly see her starting now. i always knew her politics were extremely uninformed and ignorant, but the whole recent debacle really highlighted just how flimsy and narrow they really are.

  8.  I'm definitely projecting, but I could see it being a reaction— Idk if you're crazy or not, but I am lol, when I am triggered badly in my attachment trauma, I will push everyone away even if they didn't do anything, because I anticipate their rejection or am unwilling to accept they they could possibly like me. I'm probably being way too deep about it tho haha

no i think you're totally right, she is obviously deeply triggered at the moment, something intense is happening for her that we obvs (and rightfully) aren't privy to.

  9. It's not really funny anymore - I think she's actually having a breakdown.

yeah something is def happening with her that we don't know about (not excusing any content she's posted but seems relevant).

  10. The doubling down on the “delicate” adjective is very odd though

Like, you are nearly 35 years old.

this, what is this about?? the whole thing is wrong imo but the whole doubling-down on the "delicate" thing is just wild.

  11. the problem with lana is that she makes herself look self-absorbed, whether or not her concern for the greater question (in this case, the perceived legitimacy of one form of feminine self-expression vs another, and their respective validity in art) is genuine, because she seemingly has to relate everything back to herself

this has consistently been the case whenever she's spoken up about social issues, it makes her look tone-deaf even though she isn't necessarily

i appreciate her raw honesty, but with the way the world is atm, you have to - not neuter your self-expression, but certainly be more aware of what it could imply to someone who's looking for a reason to put your down and look like the better person for it

in this instance, i would have preferred for lanz to not have said a thing, and for her poetry or the upcoming album to have done all the talking for her

she could've taken cover behind her art - even though people have a fixed and incredibly reductive idea of who she is, so they would have complained anyway (as they did with BTD and UV and everything else the woman has ever put out)

i honestly don't think she cares about the threat of being cancelled though, with everything she feels that she's been through

this just perpetuates her narrative that all people ever do is attack her though

that's the thing, it's like the snake eating itself

she is deeply uneducated about the issues she tries to discuss (hence only have a VERY myopic POV bc her context is mostly herself) and tbh should apologize and take the time/energy to educate herself (she would never). what is that quote about how famous people stop developing at the age at which they became famous?

  12. very "because my gift is the warmth i live my life by and the self reflection i share generously"

THIS she really lives in a ridiculous bubble where this kind of shit somehow flies. she is truly clueless.

  13. The vulnerable echoey voice Lana sings HIADTFAWLMTH-BIHI in, combined with the faint piano creates this perfect “bottom of the well“ type atmosphere. And the lyrics are the obvious highlight, very blunt, yet very cryptic at the same time. Personally I love this song and I’ve always been a little surprised it’s not more popular. Maybe some people are too happy to connect to it lol.

totally agree re the lyrics, "very blunt yet very cryptic" describes what she goes here so well. they're some of my favorite lyrics she's ever written, and i find it so interesting that she wrote it slowly over a period of years (would love to see all the drafts).

  14. I still want charli to work with arca and mucky/sevdaliza. I just feel they could create some magic together.

YES charli and arca would be so so good– i feel like charli has mentioned wanting to work w her?

  15. I used to really hate Love Song but now like the verses a lot. Still think the chorus is boring af and cheesy though. Current album rankings from fav to least fav (Hope would be higher if I didn't have to be in a particular mood to listen to):
