i wonder if all these leaks are connected to cocc having an official single/announcement or something next week? getting us all hyped up...
-
the ultraviolence cover is boring, the B&W filter seems cheap and it tells no story she's literally just holding a car door
agreed, that's why i got the UO version– i think that cover does tell a story and is much more interesting

obsessed w land of 1000 fires rn, esp this part:
"There are seven worlds in my eyes
I'm accessing of all them onceOne to draw my words from and my musesAnother one i try and harness late at night that lies somewhereOff of the right of JupiterAnd then of course there's this one i live inThe land of 1000 fires"and then"That's my why no matter what world i'm inI'm accessible by only one satellite"i love this poem so much but can't help of thinking of zoolander re: "blue steel eyes" -

would love if she'd do a live where she read some more poems, or even a virtual reading for a bookstore...maybe even with jack's accompaniment?
-
love how some of the vocals are LQ like a voice message
i wonder if she recorded them before jack was involved and bc they are so strong (emotionally) she didn't want to re-record

one of the things i'm most impressed by is lana's reading of her poems– her pacing, pauses, intonations. makes sense to me that she'd be good at reading her work aloud bc of her musicianship, but she really managed to squeeze every drop of feeling from these readings.
-
I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but I didn't know she mentioned chemtrails in 'Past The Bushes Cypress Thriving'
yeah i noticed this a few days ago when i was re-reading some of the poems– really makes it feel like a bridge into the cocc era

first review that i've found (not very substantial though, imo): https://www.thelineofbestfit.com/reviews/albums/lana-del-rey-violet-bent-backwards-over-the-grass-review

"Back home to the Tudor house that borned a thousand murder plots" could she be talking about manson again?
i think this is a reference to her old house (one she lived in w barrie)

OH RIGHT I messed that up rn, but originally I felt surprised with the amount of pages for the amount of poems (30). I still am. It's a lot... I just didn't expect this. It's a much bigger work than I imagined.
it'll be interesting to see how she uses white space on the page for her poems– like if she uses more then even a relatively short poem (1-2 pages) could end up being quite long what with line breaks and formatting etc
-
Even with the added photography, I was originally surprised at the thickness of the book considering the amount of poetry - 128 pages(!!!) over 14 poems. But after reading LA Who I Am To Love You today, with its incredible length, it all makes sense and I'm even more so impressed and happy with how much work she's put into this project. And judging by the length of the audio and the speed she read it at, it's easier to tell that most of these poems, if not all, have so much to say. I love it.
the book is 30 poems (only 14 on the audiobook)

I have the feeling that her plans for Violet weren't as big in January as they are now. If she wanted to release it in January or even a month later the books/vinyl records would have had to be ready for delivery in the first half of the year. But now in September they still aren't ready. That makes me think she initially didn't plan for it to be such a big project with 5 vinyl editions etc. If my theory is true I'm happy she waited to release it. I also hope Behind the Iron Gates will be connected to Violet like Born to Die & Paradise.
agree, and i'm also interested to see how much revision has gone into the poems we've seen (n IG, in Vogue Italia etc). part of signing a book is doing revisions with an editor, so she may have also made significant changes to the manuscript since selling it to s&s. i do hope she'll do an in-depth interview for it's release.

the witches of eastwick (bc i'm listening to the new season of you must remember this, which if you're an old hollywood fan you'll love). it was fun (cher, michelle pfeiffer, susan sarandon) but not as good as i'd hoped..also don't care for jack nicholson.

lemme just give my 2 cents on this cuz reading this is giving me a stroke
1) does anyone really believe an actual publisher would sell the book for $1 when the production cost of a hardcover book are extremly expensive? we all knew this was out of the picture once the rights were sold to a real publisher and not lana's handbinding workshop
2) "she ist just donating her advance" like, our girl can be lucky if she manages to make more profit than her advance with this book
agree that her advance was prob pretty big (bc it's poetry it makes it harder to guess but i'd say def $1 million-ish, possibly more)
-
Yee, I went back and popped in the source of some of these claims too. I just can't remember where I read the donation being the advance/author fee and not the profits of the hundred variants of this album.
info re: the advance is from her most recent video where she announced violet's official release date (the one filmed in a parking lot)
