  1. She thought LA would be utopian, but like any major city in a post 9/11 world, the mayor has 24 hour security. Thought Mayor Garcetti is a classically trained jazz pianist!
  2. I don’t think she’ll ever move back to New York. She is one of those people who keeps moving forwards rather than backwards. I know she lives in LA now but I have no idea where in LA she lives. She’ll spend the rest of her life in Southern California.
  3. She can always call in to the Howard Stern show. I’m sure Howard would be thrilled!
  4. “Plus, I love Zac, so why did I do that when I know it won't last?“ I figured this out; Her husband, Zac is PROZAC. “But I know it won’t last”; if you are on Prozac long enough it loses its effect on stabilizing your chemical imbalance. Lana May have been on Prozac for a long time but then it stopped having its desired effect. This is just my take, so don’t assume anything.
  5. I think its all the men she has been with.
  6. The Rosebud reference is a reference to Citizen Kane; Charles Foster Kane's innocence was taken when he was sent away... .... Similar to how Lana was sent away as a kid
  7. Lovely! Lana flying a plane... being an airplane nerd myself I can see Lana pulling back too hard on the yolk! But that’s okay because Lana is a poet and I know airplanes!
  8. Yeah, anthony had a lot of issues with addiction. So has Lana as she is a recovering alcoholic.
  9. I always knew Lana had a lot of pain in her heart, but seeing her let it out like this and turning it into art, that’s really powerful stuff right there
  10. Lana sure loves referencing Sylvia Plath and this one also explores the issue of a woman’s place. This is beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. Sure makes you think about a lot of things at once.
  11. Certainly a Bob Dylan reference. His work has had a huge impact on Lana.
  12. So this is the ultimate rebuttal of everything America has become under Trump. We have a President who denies climate change and does not even try to unite the country. Lana sees America has being fragile. We think of our nation as strong, but we are only one incompetent leader away from being a mess which is certainly the case now. Lana sees what is really going on. She can speak out about it but if she doesn’t then Trump prevails plus Lana ends up in the psychiatric ward. Kind of reminds me of when Lana called out Kanye for backing Trump. She said that a Trump winning was a loss for the country but active support for him was a loss for the culture. Lana believes in an America that lives up to its promise. Then there are the biblical references about Adam and Eve; when we take and take, we destroy the paradise that we can have. All in all, Lana is challenging Trump’s populism and this culture of greed that has been holding society back.
  13. For some reason with her writing about the concept of a home, I thought of the U2 song “Walk On” because there is a line in there that says “home, hard to know what it is if you never had one.” But that’s just a favorite song on mine and I guess I was reminded of it. Also on Born to Die Lana sings “ Can you make it feel like home if I tell you you're mine?”. This concept of “home” is something that Lana desires because she has never had it. And since this poem is about LA, it’s important to note that LA has a big homeless population. Lana has a house, but maybe she has metaphorically always felt “homeless”. And now I think of another line from another U2 song (Sometimes You can’t make it on Your Own) that says “A house doesn’t make a home. Don’t leave me here alone”. Lana has so much inside of her. But damn, I do feel it too!
  14. And this shit one deals with as a child, it comes with you into adulthood. So much of my childhood trauma still haunts me. I see Lana. I understand Lana. And I accept Lana. Why? Because no one has accepted me so I feel the same pain Lana feels.
  15. I have always suspected that Lana is bipolar so perhaps she is referring to Prozac. It is the go to medication for bipolar disorder When Lana writes about her darkness, I see her and I understand her. I have that same darkness and pain too. She describes everything that I feel. Honestly, Lana would not have to explain this poem for me to understand it. I know what she is talking about because I have lived these emotions. I know what it is to be emotionally neglected. I have never been taken seriously so when Lana writes about this, I take her very seriously. I get it.
  16. “And I'm writing from the Golden Gate Bridge But it's not going as I planned“ Shit. I know exactly what this means because I know what it feels like to be in this position. I am just like Lana.
  17. “You see, I have no mother And you do A continental shelf A larger piece of land from where you came And I? I'm an orphan” Not to start spilling my own shit, but I know what this feels like. I had so many problems growing up and I felt emotionally neglected. My issues were never taken seriously. So I totally know where Lana is coming from.
  18. I actually wouldn’t worry about her taking a “long” break. Musicians do take breaks but I just don’t see Lana taking a break that lasts several years. I feel like she is always up to something and always creating. When it feels right she releases something.
  19. I don't really know much about Marina, but judging by what is being said on here, perhaps she is confused about who she wants to be friends with. As I said, it seems like Lana's closest with her friends who happen to not be celebrities. But her friendships is her business. So long as she has good people around her who support her, listen to her and give her a hand when she needs it, that all that matters. And Lana is super close with Chuck and Charlie and thats very important.
  20. When you see pictures of Lana with her friends, its usually that same group I mentioned. She seems to be closer with those of her friends who are not celebrities.
