Apologies if this has been answered already, but I cannot figure out how to go to new responses since last visit. There used to be stars and dots next to a topic that I would click to do so, but now they're gone. And apologies if this is a completely ignorant question! Otherwise, the new aesthetic looks great, thank you for the upgrade! -
I see your point, and no hate at all, but I'm just not entirely convinced she was intentionally trying to please or impress anyone with NFR!, or that she is somehow less sincere or not singing from the heart on it. Frankly, I think she may have been surprised by overwhelming praise from Pitchfork and the likes who appreciated her comments on the culture (which, admittedly, are quite sporadic) and contrasted them to her previous work. Deep down, however, it is as personal of an album as any of her other albums, replete with intimate anecdotes and very Lana sentiments ("You fucked me so good that I almost said 'I love you'" to me belongs in the same universe as "I fucked my way up to the top, this is my show"––if anything, the latter has more of a shock-value ring to it). I think she was able to very aptly convey, through personal reflections, a broader social sense of apocalyptic dread but I don't see that as a well-calculated decision on her part to pass for more serious or political or anything––I think she truly was in that set of mind. That said, I'm excited to see where she'll go with COCC, both in terms of lyrics and sound. When she announced the album last year, it sounded like it might be in the vein of NFR!, but a lot has changed since then and she probably has new ideas (Sean-related or not) she wants to incorporate.

Have we talked about how annoyed she sounds and almost yells at Charlie? Or is it just me? Maybe the cats really pissed her off

Love how the site crashed after she posted the clip I'm also getting Honeymoon vibes, which I absolutely love. A mix of Honeymoon and NFR! would be such a dream. -
I don't think I've seen so much cleavage on her before! Hot!

I've always wondered what would be a good Madonna song for Lana to cover (I also wonder if she's had any influence on her). "Frozen" would be a great choice. I can see her covering "Inside of Me" as well. Of course, we have "You Must Love Me," but I am not a fan of Lana's rendition unfortunately.

I want an "instrumental" Lana track––one in which she only hums, sighs, moans, whispers, whatever against an exquisitely crafted, lounge-y sonic background. Think the humming part in the "Summer Bummer" demo, for instance. Maybe not on an album but for a soundtrack or as a stand-alone single.

Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass Reviews and Metacritic Thread

This was a good review with some good insights, I enjoyed reading it. I'm glad they are not grading it numerically. It's logical not to do so but you never know with Pitchfork. -
When she sings the final "ah-ah-ah" on "Old Money," she sounds like she just burned herself. I love the song to bits, but this part always makes me wince.

There's one from Jezebel as well (that I didn't care to read beyond the first sentence as they usually love to hate on her): https://jezebel.com/people-love-mysteries-people-love-visions-a-brief-jour-1844530690 -

Thicc for COCC, love it! -
I actually love that the vocals on some of the poems sound like they were recorded on her phone, it lends them a grittier quality that I appreciate.

I'm actually one of those who would love no information whatsoever until release date. She did mention a surprise release and she's already given us a title and a release date, so if no other details are revealed until September, it would still count as a surprise of sorts. Imagine how thrilling it would be to wait until midnight and then see the artwork and the tracklist for the first time on iTunes or Spotify or wherever. I'm hoping for a solid well-thought 10-track album, no fillers, no frills. This album is coming one year after NFR, after all, so it would not be ungenerous––a lot of artists release new music every 3-4 years. One single in late September and that's it. A few months later, the second poetry collection. I feel I just set up my own guillotine.
