  1. I love that song, too! That and "Is This Happiness" are my favorites from Ultraviolence, because they're both such beautiful songs. The major difference between the album and live versions of "Old Money" are: 1) No strings. 2) Use of percussion and guitar. If you listen to the album version, you'll hear strings and piano backing Lana up. No percussion, guitar, or even bass guitar. The live version I heard from a video of her performance in Mexico used piano, guitar, and light percussion. They didn't use pre-recorded string tracks, and surprisingly, I didn't miss them. The song sounded just as great without strings as with. I hope she performs that one in LA this weekend!
  2. Weird Al has been around since the late 1970s. His first parody song, "My Bologna," aired on the Dr. Demento radio show in 1979. Yeah, that was one I had in mind as well. "Dark Paradise" could be worked in as well. I was envisioning it starting off with "Blue Jeans." Wow, just RAIN on my parade, why don't you... All I can do is send a suggestion to him via Twitter or maybe through his web site. I'm not expecting that anything will actually HAPPEN, but I can dream, right? But I still think it would be rather cool, and funny, if he actually did it. He doesn't parody artists that he feels are nuisances. Sometimes, he will point out certain traits about an artist in a parody that some may consider a nuisance (like Lady Gaga in "Perform This Way," for example). But he does his parodies based on a song's popularity. After all, why parody a song that no one has heard of? Most artists consider it a compliment when Weird Al parodies them, because they know they've made it big. (Lorde, for example, was ecstatic when Al's label contacted hers about making the parody song "Foil.")
  3. Who here is *not* familiar with Weird Al? Back in the 80s, on his "UHF" album, he did a polka medley of all Rolling Stones songs. (Usually, his polka medleys are songs from multiple artists.) I would love to see him do one with all Lana songs. I think it would be awesome! Any thoughts on that? I've already got some ideas and am considering trying to submit them to him.
  4. I hope she doesn't feel that way next weekend in LA...
  5. I'll find some later when I have more time... Good point, although even now, her concerts contain more BTD/Paradise songs than UV. There are also some UV songs that use strings, like "Ultraviolence" and "Old Money." I did like the arrangement of "Old Money" that she sang in Mexico with her live band, though... wasn't bad without the strings. But I like the album version with strings, too. Yes, but you can tell the difference (at least I can) between pre-recorded and live. Plus, live adds to the show.
  6. The first Lana song I heard was her version of "Once Upon a Dream" during the end credits for Maleficent. I had previously heard *of* Lana, but had never listened to any of her music and didn't know anything about her. But hearing that song made me go "Holy cow, THAT's Lana Del Rey..." After that, the first regular album song of hers that I listened to was "Summertime Sadness," and then I heard "Young and Beautiful." I was hooked.
  7. Being a string player myself, I much prefer to see Lana performing live with actual live string players, rather than using recorded string tracks. Up until recently, most of her live performances had live strings. But over the last few months, especially at outdoor festivals, she hasn't had the live string players. Maybe it's because of the logistics involved with festivals, having that many people on-stage, etc., I don't know... but I can say that I miss seeing her live performances with strings. Any thoughts/opinions?
  8. Wow... that was just beautiful!! This is actually the first song of hers that I've heard where I liked the version without the strings just as much as the album version with strings. I also liked the fact that she reached down for those really low notes that she sings on the album. Not all of them, but a good number of 'em.
  9. First chord is C# minor, then F# major. He goes back and forth between those two, and then after a couple of measures, he goes C# minor, B major, F# major. When Lana first starts singing (not actual words), her notes are E, D#, A#, then E, D#, C#. Then it varies after that.
  10. Oh, I misunderstood -- I interpreted "NA" to mean North America, as in don't go meet fans during North American shows. Now I realize you meant National Anthem... LOL. TMA (Too Many Acronyms)!
  11. Oh, that sucks bigtime. She did go down and meet fans during Music Midtown in Atlanta, though, so there's still hope. I keep hearing that LA is one of her biggest fanbases, though, so it'd be pretty silly for her not to do the meet-and-greet thing when she's there. I also read a report that she hopped down off of the stage for a selfie with one fan in Austin, though... so, I guess we'll see. But I really hope she does it, because to me, that's one of her most endearing qualities -- her interactions with fans.
  12. Sounds pretty much like most of her concert lineups. I guess she's still not performing much from UV here in the states. I saw a video of a recent European performance, and she did several UV songs, including F'd My Way. But that's OK with me; I'm actually a bigger fan of BTD/Paradise anyway. Bummer about her not coming down in front during National Anthem. I'd bet that disappointed a lot of people who made the effort to get front row spots. Were you able to see her anywhere after the show? Interesting, too, that she didn't do "Video Games" right before "National Anthem." That's how she usually performs the two...
  13. I want to try to get there early too, but I'm not sure my wife will be on board with the idea of getting there really really early. If any of you are going on Friday and are getting there early, would you be willing to save us a place in line? We can make "LB" signs or exchange phone numbers or something. Thanks!
  14. I know it's off-topic, but we're seeing Lorde on October 10, too! If you get tickets, let me know.
  15. I wonder what it will be like at Hollywood Forever. The ticket sites say there's no lining up before 5 PM. So I wonder if people will just hang out nearby until 5 PM, or...? I really want to get a front row spot! Guess we'll see...
  16. I'd be very happy to hear some UV stuff, but I'm also hoping to hear some of her BTD/Paradise songs as well, since I love those albums so much. I'm sure it'll be a mix of both, plus perhaps a cover or two.
  17. Awesome!! I checked back on the site about 10 minutes later and they were sold out. We definitely lucked out! So, who else is going to the Friday show?
  18. Just got my tickets for the Friday show! Was a much better experience with Ticketfly than with Adventures In Wonderland. No slowness on the site, and got tickets right away. Stoked!!!
  19. Pretty much, with an occasional cover or UV track thrown in. So far, I think the only UV tracks she's performed at concerts are "West Coast" and "Ultraviolence." (Has she done others?) I'd love to see her perform some of the lesser-known tracks from BTD, like "Lucky Ones." She's done "Radio" a few times, and occasionally does "Dark Paradise." I also haven't heard her perform "Blue Velvet" from Paradise very often, though it's a more common one. I'd love to hear "Old Money" from UV, too. She sang part of it a cappella once, but that's the only time I'm aware of.
  20. Thanks for posting those videos! I saw some other people's videos, too. She sounded great as always, but one thing concerned me: A lot of the time, she looked either bored or distracted, and wasn't as animated as she usually is. Perhaps it's because she was coming off of a recent illness? I'm hoping that's the reason, and that it's not that she's feeling depressed or something. A recent paparazzi vid I saw when she was back in New York even made it appear that she was annoyed. I mean, who *wouldn't* be annoyed at the paparazzi, but usually, she was really nice to them and would talk to them (though she would always avoid directly answering questions). The last time around, she was exuding an attitude of "leave me the f--- alone." Is it just me, or did anyone else get a vibe of general distraction from the Music Midwtown performance? My only other disappointment from that concert was that she didn't have her string quartet with her, so all the string parts were tracked. I hope when performs in LA, that she has the live strings. (And I hope I get tickets to go!)
  21. It is indeed a bummer. BTW, that's actually a viola I'm holding, not a violin, though I play both. That picture came from a photo shoot that one of the quartets I play with did earlier this year.
  22. I know, I'm gonna be stressing out, especially since I have an event on Saturday morning from 8-11 and am hoping I'll be near a computer, or at least my smartphone, by 12...
  23. Maybe it was subconscious inspiration? Perhaps she heard the Romeo & Juliet melody at some point, and then when she was writing "Old Money," the theme came to her on a subconscious level.
  24. I don't know if this was the first time it was performed live, but she included it in her set during the iTunes Festival in 2012. At that time, it would have been a new song, since it was part of the Paradise EP, which came out in November 2012.
