i hope this is a "candle in the wind" album, bring back the lyrical themes & tropes of born to die & ultraviolence, much to the dismay of woke media critics!

  2. Why am I only discovering this thread now :wat:

I have read all the books and loved them. I will readily admit that I cried a little at the last book :crai:

    Spoiler

maybe because I became an uncle in the same period

    Spoiler

    My highlights:
    - The characters feel real. Not every author can do that so well.
    - The intimate relationship between the two main characters - an exciting mix between rivalry and friendship.
    - The setting in a time that has passed, but can still be felt today in some places.
    - I thought it was brilliant in the first book how she described the neighbour from the eyes of a child. As an adult reader, you only realised indirectly after a few pages that there was something wrong with him and that he was a criminal.
    - It is fun to follow how all the characters grow older, have their own challenges and go their own way.

I very rarely watch television. Series have to be very captivating for me to watch them. Unfortunately, that was only partly the case here and I only watched the first season. Maybe it was because of the many brown tones and few colours, the similar scenes / always the same film locations :um2:

Umberto Eco's the Name Of the Rose

Aaah one of my favourite authors! I had enormous respect for his immense intellect. This man was a true genius. His way of thinking and talking has left its mark on me. Damn, I wasn't ready to get this emotional- marry me @less, we can spend our evenings reading his books :trisha:

I enjoyed reading "The Name of the Rose" - I am somewhat surprised that such a complex and complicated work could become an international bestseller. I wonder if that would still be possible today. Probably not  But perhaps I am doing an injustice to our society.

„Foucault's Pendulum“ was even more complex and difficult to understand, did you read it?

  4. I do not have any pets at the moment. One day I would like to have a Labrador as they are so gentle and lovable. However, my current flat and workplace are rather unsuitable.

I grew up with all sorts of animals - chickens, pigeons, rabbits, tortoises, turkeys, cats, canaries and a Chihuahua. My favourite was our cat - she was big and strong, chased all the other males away, but was incredibly gentle and cuddly.

Do you usually make the first move or do you leave it to the other person?

Well, I partially agree - the politics in Poland are... specific, and the current government has never hidden being against abortion, but on the other hand... wasn't changing abortion law in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic (which has claimed many victims in Poland) as much shocking? Rumor has it, that the government changed the law for a reason - to draw attention from a tragic pandemic situation at the time (which was mainly their fault lmao).
I know you meant the political background, but overall, both situations are shocking.

Maybe I am simple hardened when it comes to Poland, as my best friend is from there. When she's not teaching me overly useful words like owca or herbata (:hide:), she's usually talking about politics.

Do you think that the majority in Poland is for or against the possibility of abortion?
