Thinking about this because... she wrote and recorded Cherry Blossom & Nectar of the Gods while she was on tour. A friend talked with Fabrizio Argiolas and confirmed this. It was like a one-day session in May 2013 in between shows. So unless she wrote Cherry Blossom beforehand with Rick, how is he a credited writer? Did she revamp the song in 2015? Like... what?

the only explanation is she worked on the melody or lyrics with him before she went ahead to record it with fabrizio

"Ride"  was her best opener because it kinda propelled you into the album. Those opening chords really had a presence to them and drew you in. "Textbook" just doesn't have that same punchy presence that would draw you in. It's more of a slow burn, which is what I think LDR wants with this album.

I second this, the production on the track is just excellent alone + with the crickets opening up the record...

however, think of how Lana already starts off with addressing one of her main criticisms: her "daddy" issues as the media calls it.

I guess you could call it textbook
I was lookin' for the father I wanted back

and as far as track listing goes for this album she's dragging critics left and right: from the weak women anti feminist narrative the media paints her as on the title track, the LA romanticization on Arcadia, and her abuse on Wildflower Wildfire - and that's not the only topics those songs cover. I don't know about you but those opening lines on Text Book set the entire tone and I just know it's gonna wrap up nicely and this record is gonna sit on top next to NFR! :flutter:

In TB, does she say 'You touched the detriment most of the friends I knew already had' or 'You dodged the detriment'? Genius says the former, but I hear the latter, and it honestly makes a lot more sense to me. If the song is about Sean and the end of that relationship, which it seems like it is, that line makes it sound like in her eyes he'd avoided being damaged by "fame" and L.A. unlike the other people she knew. Do we have any official lyrics?

it's always been "touched" pay attention to the pronunciation

i'm pretty sure it is, the first line referencing blm was "there we were screaming black lives matter", so it would make sense that she's saying "i screamed for (black lives/black lives matter)" i think she was saying that despite what her partner at the time thought of her going to these protests, she's going to scream & protest anyways, and do what she thinks is right

i mean look at the lyrics:

All the things I couldn't want for him
    I screamed for them
    I screamed for them

She's likening the devastation of her man not being in the right side of history with her like it's a protest of her own. She isn't mentioning BLM as a means to dispel the racism claims - it's meant to place this story in time and to highlight how heartbreaking it is to witness someone you love go against the fucking bare minimum and your core beliefs as a good person. Like imagine how she might feel seeing Sean witnessing her at the protests and him just seeing her and doing nothing but being a pig. Text Book tells a very sad story and I personally relate to it after seeing my ex turn into a major hypocrite and it's truly devastating when you find out the person you love and cared for is someone you're supposed to despise - in Lana's case a racist.
