I think she’s actually very good at gorilla marketing and promoting while actually not promoting. She can organically build hype without even trying like casually mentioning a new album in a speech or dropping three singles out of the blue with the most ridiculous picsart covers. Of course part of that is the fan base building hype and buzz online but I do think she understands the age of internet marketing very well.

That, and she's relatable af. Meaning she talks to her fanbase, she's chatting to them online and offline, super present, just one of the people. She's a great marketer

that said, her rollouts are nonsensical and pathetic, and that's where she fails both as an artist and a marketer. That and her lack of desire to do talk shows and tv gigs etc after being scarred on snl

If she did just one fallon performance per album in the us, and one graham norton in the uk, she'd have a number 1 album each time

From what i've listened from the live show it will be her greatest hit since lfl era, the bridge is heavenly too, a top 10 song and i'm sure it will be a commercial success.

    this 100%

i wonder if pitchfork will list it in their best tracks.

so far they only gave that "honor" to AW, Venice Bitch, Video Games, Love and the greatest. Zero of her collabs too.

    So, that's 5 songs in 13 years.

I reckon Tough won't get it,, but the song will still be the biggest lana collab alongside snow and the weeknd stuff streaming wise.

Can someone tell me what's going on? I'm busy as fuck 'cause its the end of semester at my uni :air:

nothing babe. i mean, everything but nothing. as fucking usual.

lana and quavo performed the song live, the MV was played in the background, the song is shazam-able, it was teased twice on instagram, we know the lyrics because we've played it that many times, but the song is still not on spotify. and we still don't even know if it's his or hers, if it has anything to do with lassso.

also, lana debuted another song that we have no clue about, but that also sounds fucking fire

I’ve been wondering that myself :bebe:

these newer fans think since she teased and debuted a song it means it’s set for release when history has shown time and time again that’s not the case when it comes to Lanita

i mean, she first teased the single nearly two months ago.

    she just performed it live.

    it's her birthday.

you can't really blame people for thinking that lana and her team are, well,.. normal.

but i gues she wants to hype it up a bit more before she drops it. video teaser on ig next in july. then another teaser in august.

This feels messy even for Lana.
she’s been teasing the song and music video for a few weeks, performed the damn thing with Quavo, and then not releasing it today?

    like, are her managers managing?

But i mean, we knew Ben was an idiot for over a decade now.

let's just be happy he manages to book her concerts and press her vinyl.

because, let's face it, that's the only thing he's being paid to do. everything else is a mess that he isn't exactly "working" on. he's more the yes man. if anything, lana is managing him

Lust For Life is and breathing and I love it

Isn't it amazing how Lana's albums are so distinct that any new song can go in any direction: from sounding anything like psychedelic rock to soft rock to jazz to singer-songwriter to alt. pop and baroque pop to folk rock and gospel.

Not a lot of artists have that vibe about them. I mean, for me, for example, all Miley Cirus songs sound like basic bitch pop. Lana's diversity!

And we'll now be adding country and American songbook to that long list of genres she's covered.

Oh my god I woke up to news of them playing the song and her intro was a new song? I’m ready to do laps around my house.

Yeah, the intro was the craziest part!

A double treat - who woulda guessed. Also, that intro was fire.

Lasso might be coming sooner than we think, given that she's teased two songs, has a new aesthetic, and the MV is ready.

The only cloud in sight is that statement about not knowing where Lasso is going. If it weren't for that, I'd be thinking it's coming out in September 100%.

But as long as we get Tough within a week and an update on the album, we're good. Manifesting....

I love piano ballads, but hearing drums in this song is extremely... comforting

I actually think this could be a great Lasso album opener.

Is anyone else gettin' Cherry vibes from this clip? For me, it's like Cherry but better. Cherry but a bop. A cherry bop!

This sounds like a radio hit. Probably the first one from her since Doin Time.

    You betcha!

I've waited 5 years for a radio hit. (Thanks, Jack)

Say Yes to Heaven was a more of an anomaly and not exactly a radio hit. Snow is a Taylor cut so it doesn't coun teither.

If all goes well, Tough is going to put Lana back on the charts and the radio!

Based on the catchyness of the track itself, it could even get her first number 1 single. But for that, I think they would need to do a lot more promo beforehand, which they won't.

I still feel like she’s saying lasso,

“is there something that’s lassoing you?”

    I'm hearing "lassoing you", too.

Could this be Lasso - the song?

What the fuck. She couldn't say "This is from my new song 'Lasso'" or whatever in the end? She's so annoying sometimes

    [chorus]

    [Verse 2?]

oh, tellin me to smile for ya

like the nickel of the strings of a good old

    bass and guitar

tell me do you feel better?

smoke on the way ?? (in the barrel?)

    yeah yeah

songs that your mama sang to you

and the way that he makes me tell the truth

    and he... tough

    oooo

    say that you can follow?

it's not what you wanna do

its what you gotta do now

these gonna... around? (maybe it's "please don't mess around)

it's not what you wanna do

    its what you gotta do

    [chorus]

    Thank you!

Still a huge fan of these lyrics. They're clever, and thoughtful, and I love the references to grandpa, mom. It's surprisingly warm.

I fell asleep literally right before Quavo came out, but omggggggg I love the song so much. Lip synced or not, and we got to see a bit of the video.

The energy was so high, I hope it’s a huge hit for her soon!! Surprised there’s no midnight release…

what do you mean fell asleep before Quavo came? Was she doing her usual Arcadia and other debbie downer songs?

Looks like they only lipsynced it :flop:

For sure they did. Probably didn't have time to rehearse. It's a brand-new song too.

But, hey, at least they performed it live. They'll probably never have another opportunity again.

But it's just insane to me that they're still not dropping it.

Like, 20 million views on the gram, a big live debut, everyone including Billboard announcing it, two teasers spanning 20 months, an MV that seems ready.

What the fuck are you waiting for?

The music video is giving lana, this song is lana's

But is it from Lasso though?

Are we officially in the new era from today?

Will we be getting more album info soon? Cover? Track list? Release date?

Is Tough a blessing or a course? Like getting Mariner's in September 2018, and getting the actual album in August 2019?

    So many questions.
