The best selling album of this year babe lets keep up! Lmao

    (The Tortured Poets Department)

Ah, got it. Well, seems like 6.6 hits that sweet spot for muddled, all-over-the-shop records.

But I don't think it's fair to give Lipa the same score. TTPD has a clearer concept, collabs that keep things more dynamic, and a more substantial running time. Plus, it's just more pleasant to listen to (my ears are bleeding when listening to some points of RO.)

TTPD also has a bit of a narrative (breakups, fame, etc), whereas OR has zero ideas asides from "I'm contractually obligated to get into the studio, so let me think of some shit to sing about".

So far, Cowboy Carter >>>>>> Eternal Sunshine >>>>>>>> TTPD >>>>>>> Radical Optimism.

I wouldn't even call RO an album,  tbh. It's more of an EP with half good songs, half throwaway ones. She shoulda worked on it for another year, and maybe it woulda been something. Definitely needed more experimentation and Kevin Parker on it too, and at least 6 more songs.

Exact same pitchfork score as TTPD. And I really am seeing the parallels between these two albums.

Theyre both kind of releasing completely unnecessarily. They dont provide anything new to the artists body of work. Dont push any boundaries. Most tracks are very samey and lack identity save for a few. Its not a bad album but its not moving any measure.

Theres good songs on here but this isnt a great album.

There were people saying Dua Lipa was the next Lady Gaga after Future Nostalgia released and her next album was going to be huge. This is definitely not that…

    What's TTPD?

    These abbreviations are killing me.

The album has some good tracks but overall it’s a major step down from her last album. It’s just lacking.

If she wanted to keep the same sound, then bring the big strong hooks and choruses from FN, otherwise go nuts and try something new. She’s done neither, it just feels very safe and uninspired tbh.

Falling Forever, Houdini and End of an Era are good.

Agreed. Barely 30 mins long, and can't even land on a consistent sound throughout? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Some tracks are solid, only the singles really slap, and most tracks are just mid.

And then, some songs are a literal assault on the ears (Falling Forever, which sounds like a BAD Eurovision song)

    Major step down from FN.

Cowboy Carter is a monumental achievement by comparison. That album could have easily been 3 individual albums that are longer and better than RO.

Just finished my first listen and I can confidently say that AOTY has arrived. Incredible project, beginning to end. Dua just gets it, I honestly don't think there's any other artist in pop as exciting as her right now.

I can't really pick any favourites yet, but End Of An Era and Falling Forever were the immediate standout tracks to me. I know I'm gonna have hours and hours of fun with this album.

    😂😂😂

Album of the year? Yeah, right.

I know we’ve all been burnt by her fake release dates before, but I do think this year (September/October) is likely. I don’t think her and jack would both mention it if she only has a handful of songs ready.

I think the studio snippet we got of Henry Come On was when she was feeling pretty confident in the album, same as when we got the Candy Necklace snippet in August and she felt the album was finished in September.

We went from the Candy Necklace snippet in august to complete silence until December, but that didn’t mean nothing was happening. The album was submitted and being pressed and we had NO idea. There is no reason to think that isn’t the case right now, some of y’all are so dramatic :thumb2:

I hear you. But OB came out last year, March. It's only been a little over a year. And she had the OB promo, rob grant collabs, CN video, other collabs, Coachella, etc. She works fast, but I'm not sure if she could wrap up a whole album that fast with all this other stuff happening. That being said, HM did come a year after UV, so who knows.

not being dramatic - Just don't want to get disappointed if we get (yet) another delay. Nfr was excruciating. Worth it but excruciating.

I think that would be so strange, as she nearly always changes the title

I think Lasso is a great title, and it's here to stay.

It's the second best out of her one-word titles, second only to Ultraviolence, and I 'm sure Lana loves it and isn't going to change it. For sure, there's a single with that name as well, and it's probably a song she loves.

Tbh I don’t care or mind if it’s delayed. Music so far this year has been SO solid that I’m not itching for new Lana. If she wants to take time to perfect the album, she absolutely should.

I love how she has really fleshed out her look/aesthetic. This is the first time in YEARS that she actually looks like the music she is about to release.

my only hope for this era is an album trailer. I know a lot of artists don’t really do them anymore, but her album trailers have ALWAYS been next level, and she had big ideas for the Ocean one before the robbery. This album being her first ‘concept’ album in years deserves a world building album trailer

that's true! Cowboy carter will hold me till september anyway. And i'm sure i'll fuck with dua lipa and billie too. The new future x metro boomin' isn't bad either, and there's still so much more music to come

absolutely this!! Our little bubble is hyper aware of Lasso’s existence, but the album is far from being announced. I truly think the days of her announcing an album with a super long, drawn out pre release is over.

LFL I don’t blame her, because Love leaked super early and the album wasn’t even ready for yet. NFR was mentioned in September of 2018, and didn’t released until August 2019, COTCC was announced in May 2020 and ended up releasing March 2021, both almost a year later. BB had multiple release dates and a lot of silence, and was out 6 months later.

Ocean I think is the almost perfect scenario. Announced something was happening and then released the first single with preorder. Granted even THAT ended up getting delayed, so it makes sense they aren’t announcing Lasso yet because this far out they probably don’t even know when it’s coming

that's why i said september is just not very realistic. It's just one of those lana statements. It means "we're working towards september but we'll see"

if she's still not happy with the song selection or the mastering, it could easily be another 6 months. We'll probably get a video of her from Denny's in November, saying "hey guys, so we have an album release date for lasso, it's March 29th, 2025. So exited and hope you like it."

When I say “bop” I mean OTTR/National Anthem, Diet Mountain Dew, Doin’ Time, HBTB, and Jimmy. Even Without You, a piano ballad, has SO much added production that it feels almost like a bop.

I do think her albums have ‘bops’ (FIILY, TJF, Peppers, Taco truck) but they’re more chill bops, and while I absolutely can get down to them, its pretty clear they aren’t the traditional definition of ‘bop’.

Cinnamon Girl with Doin’ Time energy would have serveddd. That last minute of CG is so insanely good I have no idea why it was just an outro.

I think we’ll absolutely get more Lana chill bops!

I think a country song with Doin Time energy would be a SERVE, but like I said, I think it’s silly to expect that because Jimmy was 5 years old and she didn’t even want to include it in the album, so that’s not what she gravitates towards releasing :bebe:

for sure. In the two days at coachella, she played, what, jimmy, summertime, doin' time and west coast. Like, 4 bops in a 15 track setlist. She's over making bops, and she's over singing them. She seems to be firmly in her "sad girl" era.

still, i'm hoping she and jack will have one day in the studio where they're NOT feeling miserable and are just fucking around like when they did Jimmy and, magically, a bop will materialize.

If it doesn't, and it's another collection of Sweets, I'll be fucking livid.

To me, a « Lana bop » is a song that could get radio airplay, with some chill beats, or that could please her fans because it contains somewhat some of the « old Lana ». Agree with you that Peppers is a bop, TJF is kinda one (sure is underrated with the GP), but to me, the « bop » (very loosely here) on BB might be Dealer: not that it’s a light song, but the lyrics are very UV.
Say Yes to Heaven is a nice pop song and bop-ish too.

But my fave Lana bops are her summery tracks with a memorable melody and we need one of those

    YES!

    Doin' Time

    National Anthem

    Off to the Races

    Florida Kilos

    Summertime Sadness

    Cola

    Diet Mountain Dew

    Hollywood

    Radio

    Burning Desire

    You Can Be the Boss

    High by the Beach

    West Coast

    Serial Killer

    Don't Call Me Angel

    Summer Bummer

    Hundred Dollar Bill

    Ridin' Feat. ASAP Rocky

This is What Makes Us Girls

    The list is even longer.

I wish people on here wouldn't keep saying "Oh, you want Lana to be a different artist" when she has produced a large number of summer BOPS. Obviously, she can do that. Just not with Jack apparently (he hasn't produced any of the above)

It's so funny and even cool how people really differently translate the term "bop". For me, Lana has released bops in each of her albums. Even in COTCC, Banisters and OB. Although, I do think that maybe her last album that had most "bop" songs was NFR (for example Doin Time, FIILY, Cinnamon Girl, Venice) but that doesn't mean that other following albums didn't have at least one "bop"/upbeat/beatsy track. Who doesn't bop to Peppers or Tulsa Jesus Freak or Black Bathing Suit? :oprah6: To be honest, different opinions are what makes the music most intriguing sometimes :true:

If we look at definitions of the word "bop", it implies a rapid tempo. What song on Chemtrails has a rapid tempo, in your opinion? Or BB? Do you really think Tulsa, or BBS or Venice Bitch have a rapid tempo?

  15. 1 hour ago, GeminiLanaFan said:

She needs another Doin’ Time :true:

Or, at least, Ride. A big song with a great melody that could get radio play.

No more low-key ballads as singles with minimalist production, like Blue Banisters, Arcadia, Wildflower, White Dress, Candy Necklace, The Grants, etc. It's literally been 5 years of those. (Doin' Time came out in 2019!)

But knowing Lana, she'll drop Henry, Come on as the first single. :godlaugh:

  16. 14 hours ago, NikoGo said:

Why is everyone acting like this is a jack only record? YES he’s involved, but the first song we’ve been teased with isn’t a Jack song.

personally I think it’s a bit silly to hope for a super boppy album when her last ‘bop’ album was LFL which came out almost 7 years ago. I want a bop album as much as the next person but it just doesn’t seem realistic

Gurrl, I'm totally with you. I know it won't happen. Lust for Life was her last commercial effort for sure.

But we JUST NEED ONE BOP. Just one. One upbeat single ala Summertime Sadness, Doin' Time or High By the Beach to hear on the radio or listen at the gym. Like, country with beats.

And no, this is not me mistaking Lana for another type of artist, like Sportscruiser keeps accusing me. I'm her biggest fan, and I don't expect her to change. But 3 albums in a row without a hit just isn't good for her career. Chemtrails, BB and OB haven't had a single entry on Billboard 100.

Meanwhile, 8+ tracks off of Cowboy Carter made it onto that list instantly, 6 of which weren't even singles (Buckin, Bodyguard, Protector, Blackbird, American Requiem, Hands II Heaven). All 3 of Dua Lipa's new singles made it onto the list at numbers 11, 20 and whatever.

And, yes, I know Lana doesn't need Billboard, and she's in her own lane, and her true fans don't care. But she's had 15 songs on that list, and each album up until Chemtrails had a bop or a big ballad. So, she CAN do it, and she should. If for no other reason, then to continue to be part of pop culture, get more Grammy attention, etc. It's just good for her.

Also, after 5 years, it's time for Jack to produce her first solo hit for her. He's done it for Taylor repeatedly, so I don't get why he can't cook up something more commercially minded for Lana.

we must not forget he is responsible for a&w. That is all.

    And Venice Bitch,

    And Mariner's

    And Norman

    And Ocean Boulevard

    And Wild at Heart

    And White Dress.

The list goes on and on.

That being said, I do think she should mix it up with another producer, and I hope Luke L. will bring that breath of fresh air.

Not a fan of Gabe Simon, Zach Davies, Drew Erickson and others from her Blue Banisters area. They've produced some of the weakest tracks in her career (Summertime Gershwin, Country Roads, etc.).
