this is my new song Boating from my EP Gin Mill Club (out this September, I hope). Enjoy!
  3. They are my favourite band too! That is why I thought maybe you weren't familiar with them because Florence is the original 'sad girl' for me. Gorgeous melodies, orchestral production (mostly on Ceremonials), great drums etc. They both have very similar sensitivities when it comes to songwriting but the way they phrase things and arrange the music around them are very different. EDIT: btw I never connected that the whispers in the background of Over The Love are from Burning Desire but I hear it now! This is such a nice homage to Lana.
  4. Have you ever listened to Ceremonials? It came out a year before Born To Die and is probably my top 5 favourite albums of all time. You can hear similar melodies to this particular song throughout the whole record, especially in No Light, No Light, Only if For a Night, Spectrum. The band has always had the most stunning melodies. However, I do agree that the production is very BTD.

    Taylor Swift

That's a valid point but my main takeaway is that it's likely she would have written the chorus of Wildest Dreams without ever hearing Without You. Would it have sounded the same? Probably not since we know Lana is Taylor's favourite artist so there had to be an influence at that stage. To me the biggest similarities are the synthy, bombastic Instrumentals in both choruses more so than the actual vocal delivery. I'd argue that the verses in Wildest Dreams sound more inspired by Lana's delivery.

    Taylor Swift

Ok, I hope this won't start another 'X copied Y and you won't tell me nothing' but it occurred to me upon listening to Speak Now TV that the title track's (2010) chorus has the exact same chord progression and a similar melody to Lana's Without You (2012), and consequently, Taylor's own Wildest Dreams (2015). The chords are: G, D, Am, C. I put them to test myself and in my non-expert opinion (not that it matters anyways lol), they all sound very alike. Here's my 36 second rendition of the three songs using those exact chords if you would like to hear it: https://dbree.org/v/1d0250 My verdict is... Those are very common chords and the mentioned vocal melodies kind of follow the chords closely enough for all of them to sound similar to each other.

  8. I don't think there has been a time that I listened to Kintsugi without crying. The part from 5:10 followed by 'then you're golden' breaks my heart every single time. This is the most heart-breaking yet hopeful song I have ever heard.
  9. I don't blame y'all but honestly, Why Don't We Go West is one of the best songs I've heard this year

    LB Beistad

LB Beistad was born and raised in rural East Tennessee. During what she describes as a pretty isolated childhood, all of that changed when she entered a holy union with the new computer her family purchased when she was 10 years old. LB always knew she loved music since she was just a tiny tot, but the wonders of the internet opened her eyes and ears to a whole new world of possibilities when it came to music. From heavy synths to subdued folk tracks, she discovered a level of experimentation happening with independent music that she previously had no idea even existed. Ever since then she’s been using these influences to curate her own unique style that can bring out heavier pop hits like her single “Orange Coffee” or the more mellow bedroom pop sound of her latest single “Haunt You”. No matter where her music takes her… she is always grateful for that family computer.

  15. I ordered it in M and it is a little long on me (I'm 5ft6 or 171cm) but other than that it fits nicely.
  16. It is even more lilac in real life! I was surprised at first but once I put it on it looked very pretty.

  19. You know what? You are right, you win. You cracked the code.
  20. Ok, I am usually the last person to get involved in the pointless back-and-forth's about someone's artistic vision and someone's subjective reaction to that very vision but believe me it is POSSIBLE to GET IT and still be able to experience a thought process in which you might wonder how things could have played out had the artist gone with a different direction of explaining their vision. I get that you get it and I get that you love it but do you get that I get it and do you get that I might have a different opinion?
  21. Yet when I said I get it you said that I don't? I can get it and say there could have been a different way that would have made me appreciate it more.
  22. I think everyone knows it, she stated it herself in the video
  23. I would have loved for the BTS to be displayed differently, for instance have crew photos in photo frames in certain scenes or a video of the director talking to Lana on a tv screen that she is staring at etc. It is very obvious what they were going for but I wish they didn't have to say it out loud and instead used some imagery, illusion, storytelling to explain it.
