Somewhere between 66-75, Hoping for a good 72 though. She already admitted that she thinks its "lack of cohesiveness" or whatever might not make it a critically acclaimed record, but she's gotten over it, its for us so we shouldn't care either.

Guys that listened to the snippets What are the best vocal lines you've heard so far? I'm considering breaking an listening to just one or two of them I need Lana to explore her vocals on this record -

I have yet to hear anything of 8 tracks, but wow, this is a beautiful breakdown. "Retro Futurism" come through afterall Love is truly such a special song production wise and lyrically and I always knew it would be the perfect opener. There's such a theme of looking to the past in order to deal with the present and into the future throughout this era and i can not wait to hear how it manifests lyrically on the latter half of the record. When she talked about anxiety about the future and the state of the world in the Album Trailer, I really didn't get what she was saying - to me maybe she was even downplaying things... but if you consider Lana as being a fan of musicians who wouldve gone to things like Woodstock, of the more classic rock and folk music era of the 20th century... it really makes sense. She's right, its not like the people of that era didn't feel the world was ending too, but they still used music to make the most of things, and advocate and speak out as well as they could, and tbh they inspired a generation. I don't know if any of this is even intentional, but its lovely to think of in such a way and it really does make sense. I know she said the tracklist made a few changes in the last 3 months, If anything, it feels like Lana's experience at Coachella was actually really impactful and kind of shaped the current tracklist - perhaps the ordering of things and the replacing of a few tracks other than just the inclusion of Coachella. Even if I don't love the song (I just don't feel like the production on it makes much sense compared to the lyrics for Lana, but the last minute is heavenly) I've always defended that the concept --- of being at a music festival, celebrating life and joy and music, but having kind of flash backs to another festival where the focus was on Love & Peace, but in the middle of tensions rising yet again in the world... It didn't make Lana go all hippie "save the world kids, you're the future!" I don't think based on what we know of the track's lyrically, but its certainly quite profound and perhaps even a bit awe-inspiring. Like, "wow, this is happening again, and I don't want to just sit here and do nothing about it, but what can I, as a voice do?" Whether you think the track Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind was successful in conveying this or not, I think it's still really important. (And personally, I love the lyrics). Personally now, I want some kind of video - whether it be homemade, or studio funded, etc. for a track on the latter half of the record I get the feeling that Lana doesn't feel overly satisfied with how her videos were handled in the UV era and the HM era, but so far (other than the album cover ~) I feel like LFL has been on point aesthetically and so far there seems to be evidence that Lana and her management are on the same wave length in regards to her videos. Love and LFL are imo some of her best videos, especially the former (it just needed one gay couple ) -
I wish the box set came with an autographed CD I'm literally going to have to order the autographed CD, the Target version for the Poster, the box set and the autographed vinyl (though I need a new record player ) Queen of snatching $150 from my wallet

On a scale of 1-Ultraviolence, how messy do you think the eventual leak might be? -

Sis, I hope you are right. We've basically heard 1:30 of it though and it does nothing for me yet I'm listening to Freak - Art Deco rn and wow... little off topic, but Imagine a record that is sonically most like High By the Beach, Freak, Art Deco, Summer Bummer. Muddy Trap with reserved vocals but ocassionally soaring melodies. It would be the ultimate record to get high to tbh. It can have some slower stuff too, but probably more like Groupie Love calm rather than Honeymoon balladry. -

I wonder what the instrumental highlights of this record will be. I remember hearing the snippets for the Honeymoon album sampler leak and hearing the sort of blossom guitar effect in Freak right before the chorus. Its such an orgasmic moment -

Love > White Mustang > Groupie Love > LFL > Cherry > Summer Bummer >>> Coachella > Change Change is over 5 minutes, so hopefully it builds or has a fantastic bridge, but what we've heard so far is to me like a weaker version of Honeymoon... Meanwhile White Mustang sounds like a UV meets Honeymoon outtake, but that damn track length Love remains a timeless, meaningful bop. -

Was reading the Flaunt interview again (one of the best shes ever done imo) and I had forgotten about the supposedly rich instrumentation on Tomorrow Never Came. Apparently, it was originally just Lana's voice, some guitar, and organ and Lennon added "Acoustic six- and 12-string guitar, electric guitar, lap steel, upright bass, vibraphone, harpsichord, orchestra bells, drums, and Mellotron strings, and shaker." I'm hyped for this ethereal, meta bop about basically nothing -

This is tea, don't apologize. Lana is still in the stage where she is observing events happening and contemplating about them from what we know from Coachella. She's not critiquing or calling out events as being a certain way necessarily. To be clear, I don't think that this stage is shallow like some others might claim. It's just new, its introductory. Which is why this album was never advertised as being "woke" or anything, like Witness and "purposeful pop". She merely claimed that in the last year + she has been thinking and writing about events affecting her and her friends and family. Lana surely has political thoughts, as we've seen from her interviews and what not, but they are not what inspire her music - though the current political climate has affected her and made her think about her "purpose". Maybe some day she'll get to a FJM level, but if she doesn't, that's okay to me because its not what draws me to her music. OT: Is anyone else afraid Change wont get much better based on how much of the track we have -

I want to believe that just because I can't see a reason she would regress and remove it if its one of her favorites, but if this interview was done months ago who knows, she could've changed it. -

I wish we didn't know about Yosemite tbh. I really doubt its on the record, which just means it will be another track everyone lusts for when someone eventually gets it and won't leak it. Maybe I'm a pessimist, idk. -
Honeymoon - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
AphroditeBaby replied to annedauphine's topic in Post-Release Threads
As much as I love Honeymoon, I still have trouble relating to what I think the record is actually about... With Ultraviolence, it took me about a week to see a kind of bigger picture in the 11 tracks ( deluxe were JUST AS GOOD THOUGH!) but with Honeymoon, I still don't know. Is it about Love and Time? Fame? Obsession? Lana to me always has a vision about the story the record is telling, but shes not one to be like "This record is about ___" ya know? None of her albums are true concept albums or linear stories, but still. Any ideas would be great. When I first heard Honeymoon, I did think it was better than UV though. To me, its a softer, more melancholy record. Like, to me, it inspires soft resignation, whereas Ultraviolence inspires a dark apathy. Salvatore is still one of her best tracks ever and totally unexpected for her. It should've got a video. -

What makes an album rock vs pop then? To me, Ultraviolence is Dream Pop. According to wikipedia, Dream pop is "a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that developed in the 1980s The style is typified by a preoccupation with atmosphere and texture as much as melody" Common characteristics are breathy vocals and use of guitar effects, often producing a "wall of noise". To me this perfectly describes songs like West Coast, Cruel World, Shades of Cool, Sad Girl, Pretty When You Cry, and others. There's sometimes pretty heavy layering, and there's also a tinge of Psychedelia in Ultraviolence to me. It's more rock than "pop" if you define pop as being hook oriented, or intentionally appealing to a wide audience. If anything, Ultraviolence is the opposite. I remember when it came out and most Lana stans were so DONE because there were no "bops" and the choruses were "just the title repeated 3x" etc. Nothing on Ultraviolence is even as poppy as "Love" or "Lust for Life" by far. To me, its a very anti-pop album, which is surely why the record label was opposed to her releasing it. I don't think Ultraviolence is necessarily "innovative", but for Lana, it was totally left field. Lana's approach to music and lyrics in the music industry right now is just not something that is well represented. People like to say Halsey and Melanie and the "Tumblr" girls are Lana rip offs, but they really aren't. They are very decisively pop, or indie-pop, but I see Lana as being more decisively alternative and venturing in and out of pop. This is also just my opinion though. -

What are all of your hopes for this record sonically? Let's talk something positive lol. Personally, I want these tracks to be mostly be 4 + minutes long again, and I want a decent number of the tracks to have interesting bridges, like in Honeymoon. The bridges of Honeymoon, Freak, Salvatore, Blackest Day, and Terence Loves You are some of the most beautiful moments in Lana's official discography for me. -
How do I watch this?
