  1. I have heard one or two Adele songs, one or two Taylor Swift songs, zero One Direction songs, maybe like two or three Pink songs from like twelve years ago, zero Mumford & Sons songs (i don't even know if i've heard of them), and probably one Maroon 5 song but i don't remember but i think i wanted to blow my brains out when i did.

  2. Black Beauty reminds me of a horse for some reason.

    For some reason, eh?

Sonically, Thematically and Visually have a new friend called Musically

You're really hung up on this aren't you? How else do you expect her to talk about and reference the themes in her music, the sound and style of the music, the visuals she incorporates in her videos and overall work, and even the visuals that a lot of her music conjures up? She isn't misusing any of these words.

I definitely don't agree this seems rushed, and she still hasn't finished so it's all good ^.^

I get the sense from the article that she hasn't even actually started tracking it yet, that it's still in the demo stages.

  3. Actually, a practicing non-intellectual-property lawyer is probably a better person to ask than a non-practicing former-intellectual-property-law student. My non-expert guess is that each contributor owns his/her own contribution. So in EE's scenario 1, Monicker owns the song and EE owns the videotape. Yesterday I would have guessed that EE can't post it without Monicker's permission. Today I see that the law has evolved such that there's at least a recognized interest in posting stuff on YouTube. So today my answer is I don't know, but it might depend on whether your video's visual focus includes Monicker, or mainly involves EE's dog dancing in the foreground to Monicker's song... In the second scenario, I'm guessing that if Monicker failed to secure a release from EE ahead of time, he might be kinda outta luck if EE later decides to ask him to take down any video of the performance.

Whatever, i'm going to sue evil for every penny the old man's got.

Although, before that, i'd like to see his dog cat dancing around to my music.  :deadbanana:

  4. intellectual property law.  :crossed:

Isn't this what PrettyBaby studied? Paging PB, please report to the Thread for General Questions.

Don't take my word for this because i'm not sure, but i think, assuming the songs are registered, the copyright holder holds the rights in the case you've described. Or if the song is on a release, the label does. I mean, any video of this nature on youtube is essentially a bootleg recording, the person who shot the video is distributing it without permission. Unless the song in question is not registered, say it's an amateur singer/songwriter or something who is performing one of their songs that has never been copyrighted. There's also a distinction between performance rights/royalties and recording rights/royalties. You know that if you go to a bar or performance space right now and cover someone's song, the establishment is supposed to legally have some sort of license to allow for this?

You're using Ben ( :benmawson:) symbolically, right? I've notice there's an assumption around here that Ben is solely behind anything having to do with LDR songs and copyright violations. I would imagine there's a bigger legal team though. He is, after all, just her manager, no? Also, why does he look exactly like Ben Affleck in that picture?!

  5. Patriarchy actually doesn't benefit men as much as one would think tbh. It sets out a standard based mostly upon socially constructed gender roles. While this obviously takes power away from women as it expects them to be docile, submissive and homemakers when they may not want to be it also expects things from men. Men in a patriarchal society are expected to be masculine, often abrasive and the breadwinners of a family. It disallows men to express any kind of emotional sensitivity without being perceived as feminine. In conclusion, patriarchy kind of sucks for everyone.

Yep. I was actually just reading an article about this yesterday. It wasn't very well written but the points were good. The whole power structure is, in a lot of ways, destructive for everyone. Gender is not solely a women's issue, it doesn't only oppress women. It's a two-sided coin, it confines both sexes. Similarly, sexism is not exclusively a male thing. The whole system needs to crumble.

  6. The issue (at least in what i was getting at) is not whether or not one finds Amy Winehouse attractive. Whatever one may think of her looks, that’s their opinion and that’s fine--i don’t think anyone needs to explain/defend their position or convince those who disagree. I just think the comment itself and the basis for making it is dismissive and insulting--to suggest that she can’t be attractive, that it’s merely her female fans calling her attractive because they like her music and they’re into her hair? That’s not only presumptuous, narrow-minded, and ridiculous, it’s also sexist. It just strikes me as a blatant refusal to consider anything but your own view--I think she’s ugly so if anyone thinks otherwise it’s probably for bogus reasons...or, you know, they’re just a chick liking another chick’s hair because that’s what chicks do.

  7. I AM NOT INEPT. I KNOW THESE ARE CRYING EMOTES. THEY DO NOT CONVEY MY FEELINGS SOMETIMES. LIKE, REAL FUCKING CRYING. NOT FANGIRLING OR HEART ATTACKS OR WIPING TEARS.

THIS IS THE CLOSEST ONE THAT FITS BUT IT STILL DOESN'T.  :crying2:

We used to have a good one on ldr.fm.

Alternately, Bill, you could just write that you're fucking crying.  ;)  :)  :D  :P  :ohno:  :creep:  :hooker:  :deadbanana:

  8. So i just came across an amusing quote. It comes from, get this...criticism of a book on music criticism  :ohno:

Apparently the sole issue that the critic critiquing this 1946 book on music criticism has is that the author is too polite.

And the quote: "No subject in the world deserves more rudeness than music criticism."

    :isee:

  9. Looking at some of this cover art you would never think the song would sound the way it does

I was just going to say that. Especially with the notebook paper one, which looks like an album cover for generic 12 year old girl bubble gum pop. Imagine you're at a record store just browsing and you come across that cover, who would stop for more than half a second? I would never in a million years think that a CD with that cover would contain such amazing music. And i love that about her. What a weirdo.

  10. :O  :ohno:  :(  :defeated:  :wat:  :oprah2:  :oprah:  :wtf:  :whoopi:  :crying:  :crying2:  :airplease:  :suicide:

Excuse me while I create a Kickstarter project called "Monicker vasoepididymostomy fund".

Hell no. That procedure doesn't usually work anyway  :P Why all the faces of shock, horror, and disgust, evil? Stop! Just stop! Let me fucking do what i'm fucking doing!

You had this done so you could slut around without consequence, didn't you? You SLUT!

Well, I guess I won't have to worry about any leaks from Monicker. :teehee:

Real clever, you two. So clever that sometimes i think you're the same person.

p.s. i knew "shtetl" thanks to - you guessed it! - jeff buckley, because he played with john zorn and, through that collaboration i discovered him and well, it's an understatement to say that he is in a league of his own! i did not know the tammys, however, and i LOVED "egyptian zumba"! am d/ling their album right now on soulseek. gracias!!!  :gclap:

I figured if there was anyone here who'd know Zorn it would be you  :) Let me know what you think of The Tammys. They didn't do anything near as crazy as Egyptian Shumba (who did?) but they've got some great stuff. I really like their song

. The blend of their voices is so sharp and distinct, sometimes it sounds like a train whistle.

  11. Looks like she went trough some older guys closet to find his old band t shirts from the 70's.

...or, rather, shopped at trendy clothing sites that sell a manufactured version of that very look you just described  ;)

The BAD ring. I love that ring. It's so tacky.

Me too. I think she's the only one who can pull off that shit.
