  1. Fuck that. Gimme a Rick Rubin alt-metal version.  :crossed:

Early Rick Rubin SLAYER style! Gimme the brite lites, gimme the brite lites, gimme the ANGEL OF DEATH

Well, AKA would sound a lot better, then. I don't think Born To Die would transition for the better...

Quick, there's no time to waste, there's a secret back door out of here that i know of. Once you get out just keep running and don't stop. I'll distract the lynch mob and keep you covered for a while. Take this knife with you, it's all i've got.

    God bless.

  2. I just realized an interesting comparison that can be made with an actual real life example: Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine album and its two versions. The original sessions, produced by Jon Brion, can be seen as an AKA of sorts, while the rerecorded version of the album, produced by Mike Elizondo, takes a more hip hop and commercial approach (though Elizondo is leagues better than Haynie). Even if you're not a fan of hers, it's fascinating to hear two completely different versions of the same (really amazing) album, and i highly recommend a listen to both. I think most Lana fans would be into both versions anyway, so it's a no brainer. Hell, i'm not even really a Fiona fan so much as i'm a fan of both versions of the album, especially the original (and her latest album too).

  3. As far as what BTD would sound like if it had been recorded as Lizzy, i don't think you have to try too hard or look further than some, not all, of the BTD demos, like HLH, NA (nexus), DMD, and LO. I'm not saying they would sound just like that, but i think it's the easiest way to imagine them in a similar vein. They would just have more of a "band"/"live" sound.

The BTD demos that are actually technically demos like VG, Carmen, WY, and MDM would not sound like that in an AKA mold.

Demos like DP, SS, and TIWMUG are in a transitional style that's neither representative of AKA or BTD.

As for AKA being recorded by Lana, i think it's pretty easy to imagine what anything going through the BTD Emile Haynie filter would sound like  :usrs:

Did you like how i purposely used as many initialisms as i could?  :godlaugh:

  4. I realize this song is for The Great Gatsby, as it does fit with the tragic love interest and grand lifestyle surrouding Gatsby & Daisy, but looking at this song by itself , it doesn't excite me lyrically. the production though >>>>>

Plenty of us have noticed how she recycles certain ideas or lyrics in the majority of her songs. What part of all this repetition is because of meaningful intention and what part is just lazy songwriting??

her word choice is the same in everythinggg, im >> b o r e d

Paradise Edition & Young and Beautiful are tired out ideas from Born to Die. I feel like she's just churning out sloppy songs while the hype is still alive.

....I'm hoping her upcoming "spiritual" album is a breath of fresh air and she ventures onto other topics or at least expresses her ideas in a NEW way. 1 of the main reasons that I was drawn to Lana  in the 1st place was bc she was so different, now she's literally beating to death the same themes in all of her recent songs. -__-

Yeah, that's mostly how i feel. These lyrics sound like self-parody, and this isn’t, by any stretch, the first time that happens. It’s staggering how much her lyrical abilities have steadily declined over her career, even just since BTD. I really don’t know what happened to the creative lyricist in her  :(

I don’t think Y&B is necessarily a bad song, it just doesn’t do much for me, i really don't feel it. I guess my favorite aspect of the song is the arrangement (i do love the tube bells!) The bridge (lyrics aside) is better than the entire rest of the song. Some people have aptly noted that this song sounds like a kind of hybrid of a few different songs of hers, but the thing is, she already did those songs much better. Not only does this feel like a retread, but also like a leftover, an outtake. But my biggest issue with it, which i had prior to even hearing the whole song, is that it’s constructed around a clunky melody that i find neither interesting, memorable, engaging, or unusual. That the trite question in the lyrics is set to this melody just further brings it down.

I don’t want to say too much about the production because it’s a low quality file (160 kbps and you can really hear a lot of compression) but it seems like a rather plastic and cold production. Yet not plastic and cold enough to be intentional. I feel like this is obviously supposed to be an emotional song, but it sounds more like going through the motions. Her vocals are more and more often taking on this sedated, drone-y quality that, i hate to say, i’m starting to find tiring. And i’ll keep saying this: i hate the cheap sounding digital reverb they always use on her vocals, i think it does a disservice to her voice. Someone please fucking run this woman’s vocals through a real echo chamber, i promise that everyone’s minds and hearts will melt.

I think the orchestral version sounds much better and i'm interested in hearing that. But again, the lackluster melody and poor lyrics i feel are always going to get in the way of this being a good song. I’m very surprised to hear this being called one of her best songs. That’s a pretty lofty statement considering how much great material she has. I don’t know, i can’t help wonder if that’s just new release excitement talking. Maybe this one will be a grower?

Lord, i really did not set out to write this much about this song--i've barely even felt anything listening to it.

To make up for my long-winded dribble, let me leave you with a picture of some cute lambs wearing clothing:

  5. I think Namira's question is a valid one--Lana's current circumstances are very different now than they were in her past, so prior motives may not necessarily apply now. I found the responses to the question a little defensive, not the other way around, and very idealist. I strongly doubt anyone has the answer at this time though.

By the way, the "horse plant" and other things it's been called is topiary.

  6. Jesus, did you hear how the second suspect was found?

Tsarnaev was cornered late Friday as he was hiding on a boat in a backyard of Watertown, a suburb of Boston.

Police were alerted to his whereabouts by a man who went outside after authorities lifted an order for residents to stay inside during the manhunt. The resident saw blood on a boat in the backyard, Davis said. He then lifted up the tarp covering the boat and "saw a man covered with blood," he said.

Can you imagine? How fucking scary. I would NOT have lifted the tarp and instead ran back in the house and shit myself.

  7. Does anyone know what is the song playing at the end of this video?

Don’t know which song it is but it’s Billie Holiday.

    I'd bet cake on it.

I like this trend of evilentity betting cake.

I have to say again, i am really very happy with this recording and i hope this is, at least in part, an indication of things to come for the new album (hello "western," "west coast" and "stripped down"). Nothing about this feels like someone else’s attempt to make her “relevant” to today’s charts. There’s a subtlety and nuance to this production that most of BTD and some of Paradise is lacking; no turning everything up loud in your face going on here. For example, i am very pleasantly surprised by and pleased with how the acoustic guitar is recorded and mixed, it’s there more for color and texture rather than as a “spotlight” instrument--you feel it more than hear it. If you have good speakers or headphones listen for the sub-bass organ note that comes in at 3:19 when Barrie sings “Oh, summer wine.” It sounds amazing. That shit fills the entire room if you’re listening on speakers, and it rattles your skull if listening on headphones. I love it. I like that throughout the whole song there’s just a kick drum and snare, and that the beat just coasts along without trying to carry the backing track on its own. And how good is the drum sound? How about that marimba? And the James Bond horns sound great. Her backing vocals are excellent and so expressive, she really nailed them. Everything seems to be working together as one, to serve the whole of the song/production, rather than the song showcasing any one thing. I am geeking out pretty hard on this one, you guys.  :blanche2:

But someone answer me this: why do people (and so many at that) take music videos and upload them to their channel? There are like 25 channels already that have uploaded the video or just the audio. What the hell do people do this for?

  8. As with most of her references, I think it's symbolic of a feeling or something bigger than her literally going there.

    Alabama?  :teehee:

and i don't think she's actually singing "aberdeen", she can't possibly think it's pronounced that way

    Audio Tune?  :teehee:

  9. She's so random, I love it.

What's random about this that makes you say that?

    Yup, it's that voice.

Disagree. I find Lana's voice much more interesting than Nancy Sinatra's.

For me it never comes down to just one thing like a singer's voice; it's about the sum of the parts--the composition, arrangement, production, performance, even engineering--the entirety of the recording. Besides, we're talking about the golden age of record production here, a 1966 Lee Hazlewood production. This version is really great but in my opinion it can't touch the original. And even so, like i said, i think Barrie's vocals are the highlight here. Though they sound excellent together. I would love an entire record of them doing duets like this.

Speaking of which, it would be a no-brainer to start doing this on tour, and they really should, but you know she hardly ever does what's obvious or logical.

  10. Where in the world did this come from? This is such a faithful cover that, let’s be real, i’d rather just listen to Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra. But i gotta say, Barrie’s voice is as perfect as can be for this song. I think he actually steals the show here. Who the hell produced this? Please produce her next album. This is the best production since AKA.

  11. Are you kidding me? These shoes are dope as hell. Sneakers with a wedge >>>>> my aunt has a pair from Japan and they're maybe the trendiest thing I've seen in my whole life. I would wear the shit out of those shoes and start saying holla so much more you don't understand.

Yeah, i'm not into liking things ironically.

  12. Just don't make this another foot fetish thread, I'm begging you  :toofunny:

Oh my god.......i was about to say something about this picture:

But i guess i won't now. FINE.  :usrs:

:creepna: Amneville and Hamburg. The shoes are by Lacoste...

    These are so unbelievably hideous.

  13. On the first day of the tour, hours before the show, Lana Del Rey Online had a status about what the stage looked like and i asked how they were getting the information (wondering if perhaps they were inside the venue or what) and the amusing response i got was, "I'm a fansite on twitter, I find all this news"

  14. who knows if this has been addressed before, but i was really curious earlier today, has lana ever specifically mentioned TIWMUG in a interview? i know she talks bout btd as describing her "dark days" but i want a tell all interview about this song. is there such a thing?

I don't know about lyrically, but she mentioned in one interview that TIWMUG is the one song on BTD that she was not happy with the production. Though if that's the case, you'd think she'd be unhappy with the production on most of the album...

    It's from the H&M making of. :)
