ugh eclipse leak it
i go thru phases with this record where i dont listen to it at all, or its all i want to listen to. it is incredibly unique, in lana's discog and in MUSIC overall. it's deserty roadtrip music, its strip club music, its cry yourself to sleep folk music, its jazzy, its dancey, it tells a strong sonic narrative that tbh i think only happens on the same elevated level in Honeymoon. all i fokken want is an official physical release, i'm so afraid of ruining my bootleg
exactly you said that so well
i love this album so much -- it's really hard to ever find the words for it and the impact its had on me!!!!!! it's defo such an anomaly just in general that it's so hard to classify/compare/describe it
-
Mermaid Motel - GODLY and probably her best demo imo but i love both versions so much for their totally distinct vibes
Lucky Ones and Without You - both WAY preferable to the finals, which ended up totally overproduced
Money Power Glory - demo is much more listenable than the final to me
honorable mentions are the Lolita demos (song sucks in general but the demos are slightly better), National Anthem demos (not I Want It All tho, she can choke), Mertens' Brite Lites, and probably the rest of the UV demos if we ever hear them

where is this? i need to rearrange my AKA tracklist ASAP
he never released the whole thing!!! he only said that FKP2 was track 1, Kill Kill was track 9, and Mermaid Motel was track 13
i'm dying to know the rest!!!! i feel like that tracklist is the one the album would've had if it were released in '09 like originally planned, so it's kind of a headscratcher as to why they switched it up
-
The only problem I got with AKA is the cover art! Chuck is screwing Lana since day 1
i have a love for it now, but only because i'm so used to it -- otherwise, AKA deserved a MUCH better and more dynamic cover
even the kill kill EP cover is miles better:
-
I don't know if anyone else feels this way but I think the placement of Pawn Shop Blues on the tracklist is really odd especially being followed by Brite Lites. I feel like it would fit better behind Yayo.
that's the ONLY problem I've ever had w AKA -- the arrangement of the tracklist is a little off. like, sonically, the gapless flow is great, but the placement just feels off.
i think that the original arrangement of the tracklist that eclipse has teased, w For K p2 as opener and Mermaid Motel as closer, might sound a lot better

I think the new performance confirms its “life’s dream”

Has anyone heard of this? It's new to me:
https://hyperallergic.com/96570/norman-rockwells-family-doesnt-want-you-to-think-he-was-gay/
Bc consider that box checked, truly gonna give the gays everything they want .gif
While I can't speak for Rockwell's personal life, I feel like they're definitely conflating his art with J.C. Leyendecker's, who WAS openly gay, and painted a large portion of the art that pops up in that Google screenshot. They had a somewhat similar visual style and both painted for the Saturday Evening Post, but Leyendecker's art was far more homoerotic and was obviously trying to subversively depict some gay stuff that couldn't come through openly in that time. I've never really seen that in Rockwell's work.
It's kind of irritating to me, that they're trying so hard to make Rockwell this LGBT figure when it's iffy at best, while one of his contemporaries really WAS gay and was creating gay art, but gets ignored comparatively.

okay first of all reading this thread gave me an ulcer bc y'all seem so determined to begrudge Lana for ANY action she takes like..... everyone getting pissy over her sharing too many snippets when
1. you do not have to listen
2. many of y'all would be pressed if she wasn't sharing anything in advance too
but! that's just how LB and stan culture is sometimes ig
ngl tho, the MGK tease did have me a bit worried for the sound of this album too, esp. when my expectations were so high already. thankfully, Sylvia Plath saved me bc not only does the sound seem consistent, but i'm living for the subject matter and lyrics and have been thirsting after this one since it first got mentioned!!!!
feeling rly hopeful and excited for NFR

Started these the other day so thought I may as well finish them
I found a few Rockwell paintings where he uses a circle of colour in the background so thought it would work pretty nice
definitely the best NFR artwork I've seen yet!!!! love love love the Rockwell influence -- this is exactly what I was picturing <3

Next To Me is one of my all time favourite songs. It's so extra but it saved me from suicide. And this is gonna be controversial but I'm always taken aback when it's followed by one of - i h m o don't @ me - Lana's worst songs

I could literally be there in an hour but it’s $60 for a fucking 90 minute ‘show’
