Lana's Origins and "Authenticity"

Can anyone help with a concrete timeline of when Video Games was written and recorded in comparison with when she was signed to Universal/Stranger/Interscope Records? I've heard so many different versions of the story. I know she bought herself out of the 5 Points deal, went to London to search for new labels, and met Justin Parker, with whom she wrote and recorded demos for quite a few tracks. But where did the support of a label come in? Video Games was released online in June of 2011, and I know that studios had not been interested initially until it became a hit online, but had she already started to receive assistance from Interscope at the time? And just marketed as an indie artist? Or did Video Games' online success lead to the official deal?

They claim industry insiders told them that Lana didn't make her videos or write her songs and that she had been signed for months prior to the October date when Interscope claims to have signed her.

So, according to Robopop, the version of VG we have was originally intended to be a demo but released online and gained traction quickly. Then,
"Music blogs took to “Video Games” and influential BBC Radio One DJ Fearne Cotton became enamored with the track. Within weeks the video soared to a million views and by the end of July of 2011 she landed a worldwide deal with Universal Music." Interscope came months after.

 

A bit irritating to know this and then continually find articles by Pitchfork (who claim they knew months before October about her deal with Interscope) and the like saying she had signed with Interscope before the production of Video Games, but it was kept secret from the public. As if Lana was this huge label scheme. 

 

Also, just came across the old Complex article in which Lana lied about being 25 when asked, lol. My brain hurts from trying to get all of this straight.

I for one think that the attacks that she received was uncalled for! You would think that if she was not an alcoholic then someone somewhere would have pointed out by now that she was seen drinking somewhere. Those photos could easily of been of water and soda. I know I have drank water out of wine glasses and drank cocca cola out of scotch glasses when out with my family. Additionally, there has never been a single person from her past to contradict this fact.

Kind of, yeah. I don't know much about music production, but I think ~ by not being finished ~ it also wasn't in its final master.

I'm not very good with search but have people seen the typed-up interview from Index magazine (I saw the posted video in OP) - it's frigging excellent! Cool to see how Lana has had some of the same vibe all the way through - manufactured indeed!

interesting ones yes, i' saw all these a while back..Lana has changed a fair bit from that first interview, gotten a little wiser i think..lol..

Bob sounds like a interesting guy to me, i loved what he said about finding fame and fortune, and never giving up, and the entire NYC music scene.

People question the authenticity of the name Lana Del Rey and say it was a creation, but did we forget Lana Rey Del Mar? This was before she even signed with 5 Points, so obviously she already had similar names circulating and wasn't commercial (at the time of Lana Rey Del Mar she didn't have management, record label, or anything commercial).
