National Anthem 9,904 Posted July 25, 2016 Kristin Kontrol, the stage name of Kristin Welchez, is an American musician, singer and songwriter. She is best known as founder and lead singer of indie rock band Dum Dum Girls, with whom she has released five studio albums between 2010 and 2014. (taken from Wikipedia) I have never looked into her work with the Dum Dum Girls, but she released her debut solo album this year and it's honestly one of the best records of 2016. I really just want her to be more recognized, so hopefully a thread will give her that - at least on some small scale. Her sound on X-Communicate is very classic all the while sounding very fresh and forward. The title track track is reminiscent of the quirky and strong electropop of the made Lana Boards infamous Allie X, "Skin Shed" is perfect dark club dance music, and songs like "White Street" and "Show Me" ring true to the indie rock sound that Kitten seems to aim for. The album is super concise, polished, and full of tempo and stylistic variety. I can't say enough about it, really. Please someone... join me here. 01 Show Me 02 White Street 03 (Don't) Wannabe 04 X-Communicate 05 Skin Shed 06 Drive the Night 07 What Is Love 08 Face 2 Face 09 Going Thru the Motions 10 Smoke Rings

Pretend 367 Posted July 25, 2016 Definitely in my top 5 albums of the year, and glad to see that she finally has a thread - I've tried to get into her DDG discography after loving this album so much, but semi-failed because of the excessive reverb on most of the songs

I just want more from her, she's so good! It's not that the songs themselves are bad, it's just that she seems to be lost in the mix behind the instrumental at times, so it's quite a switch up from the Kristin album where her vocals are front and center. If you do want to get into the DDG stuff though, Too True is definitely the best place to start as it's the closest album sonically to X-Communicate.
