I don't know what search engine you're using but a 2 minute Google search would show you that this story is plastered all over some of the biggest sources of news and entertainment.
EOnline Billboard News.com (Australia) Variety  The Independent (UK) Pedestrian Jezebel Vulture Newsweek CNN The Daily Mail (UK) Popbuzz NME Metro (UK) Just Jared SPIN Yahoo Out Magazine MSN People Buzzfeed Huffington Post CBS Nylon Fox News ...And countless others!

    1) y’all keep asking for proof.... wtf kind of proof are you looking for??? a fucking video?????? i don’t understand

    2) welcome to the united states of america sexwithme where freedom of speech was put in place to protect citizens so they could criticize the government without being put in jail or killed for it. it has never meant that people aren’t allowed to be offended or disagree with you on a personal level

@sexwithme and like just wondering when are you going to get sick of being edgy and leave? cause we’re all pretty tired of it. do something better with ur time pls

Idk, I think it's putting a lot of pressure on the victim by trying to get them to go to court. It could ruin their life too which is why so many don't go that far. This is a tricky case and I honestly don't think anything else will be said about it for a long time, if at all. The only justice Timothy will get is most of Melanie's old fans moving on from her.
It seems she just let out the story so that other people can learn that Melanie really can't be trusted, and that sure as hell has worked.

I probably should have quoted @Liabilitys post as well because it was more agreeing with him than backlashing at you, but oh well. It's been said and done...
I still stand by what I said, but yeah I did go off topic for what you said. Sorry
Not an excuse but I've been under bright af artificial lights in the laboratory staring into a microscope for 6 hours straight. It's messed with my head and my eyes so yeah.

Omg will you actually keep us updated? I wanna see if they give a shit
Look this isn't even a court case yet and probably never will be. Even if it was, no one on this site would have anything to do with the outcome so just let us be good people and support Timothy like any decent person should?
I'm sick of people thinking they are better by being the emotionless 'I'm so logical, facts only!!!' bc there is more at play here than just 'is melanie innocent?'

Purely the way she handled it shows she is messed up and condescending, while still hiding the truth. That's enough for us to make our personal decision on her, and it turns out that the decision most of her old fan base has made is that Melanie ain't a great person, so goodbye

honestly I can't get over this

other people have questioned whether it actually happened or not which is a pretty shitty thing to do but I can see how it's a valid point some people would want to make. but you're not even questioning whether it happened, you're just saying that what happened wasn't rape and that's just so messed up... like should we be worried about the people around you

On the trigger warning while you might find it ridiculous, people do actually get triggered seeing or reading about certain traumatic things that have happened to them.
Melanie has made a statement that she has decided to stick by, even though it has practically given weight in favour of Timothy's account with the "She never said no" which is something many rapists say to try and put blame on the victim.

it's called enthusiastic consent. if you really think engaging in sexual relations with someone who's laying there stiffly, not reciprocating and had denied you of this same thing dozens of time and had done nothing to indicate they had changed their mind = not rape, then you've got more issues than i thought u did lmao. grow up. why are you always defending the shittiest people and points of views

It's not that both you and the other person needs to say the word "yes," it's that there needs to be a clear understanding of consent between both parties. Being silent and remaining still after adamantly saying no previously doesn't demonstrate that. If Timothy responded positively to Melanie's advances by showing interest, that would count as consent.
Melanie saying "she didn't say no" shows that Melanie didn't actually care what Timothy's response was, she was going to do something anyways. She knew her advances were unwanted, and just because Timothy stopped verbally denying she took that as a go ahead. If Timothy had said "actually Melanie I change my mind, lets have sex" her response could work. But she didn't, so it doesn't.

Y'all should not need to be educated on the way consent works at this age

Read Melanie's statement you'll see the proof that Melanie thinks silence and reluctance is the same as saying yes. Thats what I call proof

    ilu doggo

sometimes people who get raped by family/close friends still do hang out with their rapists and try to compartmentalize their relationships (until eventually they implode) and i wished i'd seen less of "well why didn't she fight back, push her away, left" and more of "why didn't martinez back off, why can't she seek enthusiastic sexual partners instead - like all of us, why does she pressure and nag people for sex, why doesn't no mean no, why would she have power trips with the people she claims to be friends with"

There are so many sources about how false rape accusations are rare, it's all good to always critically take in an information but it's not our objective to be the prosecutors and find every way to shut down a victim and disparage them. We should rather make sure to unlearn some of our biases, like teaching guys (and everyone else) that women can be rapists and it's possible to be raped by a girl and it doesn't change how grave this act is, not shaming someone who was raped should be the norm and having an unconventional lifestyle (drugs, being homeless or other) doesn't take away that someone could have been damaged like that.

I can't at all the people commenting on her insta saying "if she raped you then why did you post this image?" like that means shit?? Besides she said multiple times that after the incident and until recently she loved Mel and still considered her a friend before realising what she did.
    People are dumb af

Awww thank you so much - that means a lot! Glad that my posts are relatable, I just say what I'm thinking with trying to be over top and cause drama like half the people here do haha

And I'd like to think the same thing. Despite the fact that there always seems to be some sort of drama or fighting on this forum, the vast majority of the time I see a lot of people who are really educated and socially aware and explain things very clearly which makes me happy. I think Lana has a certain air of sophistication about her (not to sound pretentious) in the sense that she doesn't get involved in petty drama with other celebs and she always tries to be honest and open about different topics that can be difficult for her to talk about, so maybe that is what attracts such great people.

(Or maybe we just have such a good moderation team that all the horrible people get banned haha)

Buddy, I think you are the one who is entitled. Too entitled to know how important it is to believe victims, and clearly too entitled to realise how supporting abusive celebrities is dangerous for everyone.

Jesus, what's next? preaching Trump 2020?

I just wanna thank you for being so real and relatable in your posts x Honestly it's times like this when I see who the real legends on lanaboards are

So @ everyone else if I've been liking all your posts here too <3

Makes me proud that it could be Lana attracting more decent listeners (in general) than someone we used to know whom this thread is about

Nope I went on your profile so I knew I was correct when I assumed. You don't deny it either so...

    P. S. Contolling our bodies doesn't have to mean pushing people off who are violating it. It is as simple as having the right to not be touched by people without our permission.
  23. darkness liked a post in a topic by Ultra Violet in Melanie Martinez
oh please not this shit again

Lemme guess, youre also a male that does not understand what women go through in having control over their own bodies?

things aren't black and white. i'm very glad you clearly cannot relate to what timothy went through since no one should have to experience that, but it just is nowhere near as simple as you are trying to make it out to be. a lot of people posted some really good explanations to these same arguments a few pages back so I invite you to go read those

so if Hitler had put out a folk rock album it would be okay to jam out and support it since what he did in his own personal life (yes, even the most disgusting stuff like genocide!) has nothing to do with his professional work?

before anyone tries to cherry pick the vacuous argument that genocide > rape (but really, the magnitude of one person's horrible deeds is not grounds to erase another's), the point remains that any decent person should feel a moral obligation to do right by these victims and stop supporting this disgusting person's work, regardless of whatever opinion you may have of its quality. really, these kinds of reactions say a lot about how much people shrug off sexual assault
