Laninha is a very smart cookie. You gotta love her. Think about it....she is not doing any gigs for a now and the worst thing for an artist is to been forgout. I think she probably creates a lot of the buzz net around her. Someone connected to her makes all those leaks and crazy assumptions about her and there we go: Lana is news again!. She is isn't doing anything, not drunk flashing her little Lana, not singing, not really doing any press releases. I see a pattern: every time she messes up (her Ride performance was a mess let's face it...) some crazy stuff about her personal life magicaly appears and then comes the leaks. Gets you hooked on her for the music and personal life. All those artists do stupid things to become news but Lana actually doesn't do anything. The interest about her comes with music leaks and info about her personal life. All that through unnamed sources. This makes the informattion fly around the net like speculation, gossip separating the artist itself from the subject in matter.. In my humble opinion is very interesting and quite smart. I wouldn't be surprised if a friend of Lana or someone who works for/with her spreads all the rumors and leak the songs. All that while Lana eats a bag of cheetos laughing her ass out of how people go crazy about the music and info.

I think she intended that since she's said that Paradise would be like an afterword.
Here's how I looked at it:
Ride - Born to Die
"Don't break me down... etc" and "Don't make me sad...." She's singing about roads and journeys in both.
American - Off to the races, Blue jeans, Video Games
Both describe a casual but slightly disfunctional (drugs etc) relationship. In VG she sings "Swinging in the backyard", in A "play house", evoking images of youth/childhood.
Cola - Diet Mtn Dew
I always thought this was really obvious because they're both named after sodas? I think she's comparing Barry to her ex. In a demo version of Diet Mtn Dew she sings "beat me and tell me you're mine..." and in Cola she sings "Don't treat me rough...". Again she talks about taking a ride.
Body Electric - Summertime Sadness
In both of them she sings about feeling electric, pale moonlight and ~droppin it like it's hot~
Blue Velvet - ?
It might have something to do with Blue Jeans, they have similar titles and in BV she sings "and I still can see the velvet through my tears", in BJ "baby can you see through the tears". I always saw BV as a filler since it's a cover so I haven't paid attention to it.
Gods & Monsters - Carmen
I think she's giving a different perspective of her life before she went sober.
Yayo - ?
I have no idea..
Bel Air - Dark Paradise
I think she sees L.A. as a paradise and she's just describing what she sees when she "closes her eyes"

I posted this as a status and it got quite a bit of feedback with a few suggestions that I start it as a thread! I'd love to know what you guys think!
Here's what my status said:
"Every song on Paradise is the sister song (thematically or sonically) to a song on BTD. 1. Ride- Summertime Sadness, 2. American- Lucky Ones, 3. Cola- Off to the Races, 4. Body Electric- Lolita, 5. Blue Velvet- Born to Die, 6. Gods and Monsters- Diet Mountain Dew, 7. Yayo- Million Dollar Man, 8. Bel Air- Carmen, 9. Burning Desire- Blue Jeans"
In the comments, GreyMillenium said that they felt that #6 was a bit of a reach, and I somewhat agree. What do you guys think about all this!? Would love to know!
Here's a more thorough break down of it all:
1. Ride- Summertime Sadness
- Lana has gone on record saying that Summertime Sadness is a song about driving late at night, and that she built a love song around this core element. Obviously so is Ride.
- The "extended radio edit" version of Summertime Sadness with the guitar/beach sounds outro also fades perfectly into the beginning of Ride, with it's strange reverb-ed silence.
2. American- Lucky Ones/Radio
- Thematically American-Lucky Ones is about a happier relationship- one that is working well. She finally feels like she's found the one.
- American-Radio both make strong references to LA and Lana's perception of life there.
- Play the songs in this order and I feel a definite connection: Lucky Ones-> American -> Radio
3. Cola- Off to the Races
- Again, play Off to the Races and listen to the tone and melody of the strings as the song ends. Play Cola immediately after and tell me you don't hear a resemblance to the opening strings.
- Thematically they are both about escapism with a lover to a lavish "other side."
4. Body Electric- Lolita (Album Version)
- Obviously they both make references to literature
- The songs are both sonically sinister
5. Blue Velvet- Born to Die
- The production and arrangement of these songs is SO similar
6. Gods and Monsters- Diet Mountain Dew
- I paired these together because I feel like they are both about Lana wanting a destructive relationship that she feels somehow brings mercy into her life.
- The sound of the drums is similar to me (not the rhythm itself, but the actual sound of the drums)
7. Yayo- Million Dollar Man
- These songs both have the unmistakable torch song/jazz lounge vibe
8. Bel Air- Carmen
- I feel like these two songs are sisters because they are both the songs on their respective pieces of work that stick out the most as being different from everything else, sonically. They are not sonically similar to one another, but similar in the fact that they are so different from the other songs in Lana's BTD repertoire
- (On a side note, I think 'Oh Say Can You See' is a wonderful cousin to Carmen, sonically)
9. Burning Desire- Blue Jeans
- Someone else remarked on this, but the strings in the beginning of Burning Desire sound very reminiscent of the strings in the beginning of the second video for Blue Jeans.
- The songs are also two of Lana's most longingly sensual.
ANYWAY
I'm sure some of you will think I'm so off the mark and maybe some will agree. Maybe some of you will think this whole thing is stupid, but hey... Whatever you think, I'd love to hear it!

I’ve been down every diet road
Then I see those golden arches, yellow-gold
Garden salad has been getting old
You can give me twelve McChickens, hot or cold
Don’t weigh me down
I’ve been eating too much
I’ve been craving too hard
One Bacon Cheddar Deluxe
I smell the grease on the summer breeze
I drive fast
I find Open 'Til Midnight
"Sixteen large fries, seventeen McDoubles,
"And one tub of mayonnaise on the side
"And make it FRIED
"So FRIED
"Make it FRIED
"So FRIED"
Dying young -- fifty, sixty max
That's the way my mom's family goes, heart-attacks
Drink milkshakes, grab some late-night snacks
That’s the way we put our weight on, belly fat
Don’t weigh me now
Don’t measure my thigh
Don’t take my grilled cheese
Leave me apple fries
I smell the grease on the summer breeze
I drive fast
I find Open 'Til Midnight
"Sixteen large fries, seventeen McDoubles,
"And one pound of mozzarella on the side
"And make it FRIED
"So FRIED
"Make it FRIED
"So FRIED"
I’m tired of driving late for fucking gravy
No mashed potatoes, gimme mac&cheese super-sized
Those pats of butter got no damn taste, baby
So make them fried, make 'em FRIED
I smell the grease on the summer breeze
I drive fast
I find Open 'Til Midnight
"Sixteen large fries, seventeen McDoubles,
"And one dozen Krispy Kremes on the side
"And make them FRIED
"So FRIED
"Make it FRIED
"Triple-FRIED"

I think she would hate to see what she's become. :\
Also, Hollywood has to stop with this Marilyn obsession; there are so many other compelling stories from that era of film that aren't heard

I actually wanted to change my name a day after I made the switch , but figured I should keep it and play it up for my last two MotW interviews (Bill himself will be taking the reigns after I'm done with Sitar's interview, so look out for that!)
I don't know what the first two are (I was PMed the interview in that format), but I know the third is Highway Man (Johnny Cash) and the fourth is Real Love (Beach House). :3
As for what I think about this interview, I thought it was lovely and so thoughtful and insightful :flutter:
That's my Bill for you! :')

greymillenium liked a post in a topic in Bel Air
I found this interpretation on this site called songmeanings.net, sounds quite plausible if you ask me!
Rife with subtle allusions to the band, Guns N' Roses, the song appears to be about Del Rey's brief romance with Axl Rose.
"Bel-Air" in the title and repeated throughout the refrain has a dual meaning. First, it is a location in Los Angeles, a city in which Axl Rose lives. Additionally, he is known for driving a restored Chevy Bel-Air automobile. So, when she says "Roses, Bel Air, take me there." She's talking both about going to Bel Air to meet her lover with flowers, and also about Axl Rose sporting her around in his sports car.
In the second verse, the lyric "sweet child of mine" directly alludes to the hit single by Guns N' Roses of the same name. Further, in the third verse, Del Rey sings "Idol of roses, iconic soul. I know your name" again refers to Axl Rose, indirectly describing him as a music icon known for "Roses" (or Guns N' Roses, as it were). Over all, the song has a mourning atmosphere; the romance between Rose and Del Rey was very secretive, and it appears that the "wall built by brilliant direction" implies that he wanted to keep the relationship out of the spotlight, she did not, and it eventually led to their break up.

I'm so sad that the series sort of abruptly ended. And some of the actors have passed away. That psychic old lady was so fun. USA even did it's own version of it called Kingdom Hospital.
Did you watch the director's cut? That one made more sense that the original theatrical version. Donnie Darko is in my top 5 movies. There was a sequel that I never watched.

Even though it's not really film, but more of a mini-series, I've been enjoying "The Kingdom" by Lars von Trier. I ordered the box-set few days ago and watched the first episode with a friend. But I couldn't stop since then... back then in 1994 it was argued it was Denmark's response to Lynch's ( ) "Twin Peaks" and it sort of is. There is this generic narrative of a hospital telenovela laid over a truly disturbing and shocking subtext of anything dark which somehow creeps people out. I did laugh out loudly in some scenes, but just like that I was overly disgusted and paralyzed in other scenes. I am generally obsessed with anything which has this wide gulf between the dark and the light, and this show perfectly embodies this troubling but yet comforting sentiment. Quite contradictory, isn't it? But for me, there is no other way to say it.
It's pretty obvious that it's not an American show because it is shot with quite basic camera angles and uses the Dogma 95-technique for both camera work and setting. I don't want to diminish cinematography produced in America, but sometimes I prefer a less artificial, which is also what I somehow obsess with, format for television.
The series consist of eight to ten episodes, depending on the different cuts issued in various regions but the content is always the same. Those that like Lars von Trier's film work such as "Dancer In the Dark" (shout-out to Björk ) or the Europa Trilogy will love it! But those that know his recent work such as "Dogville" or "Antichrist" should prepare for a rather prosaic style compared to the extremely aesthetic optic he presented recently.
