I definitely think California is about Barrie! The lyrics imply a deep emotional connection, she knows about his personal problems and accepts them, offering a welcoming place to work through them via their relationship (Verse 1, "You don't ever have to..") Seemingly, they lost contact for a while after their breakup as it seemed messy and Lana became aware of his increasing struggles via mutual friends, but didn't reach out to help because their relationship didn't end well and she didn't want to impose or exacerbate his issues by reappearing in his life. So instead via the song as a whole she offers him to come back and be together and they can pick up where they left off, putting their prior issues aside. It makes total sense for this song to be an extended offer to Barrie to rekindle their relationship and for him to come back to California to see if it works out. I'm interested to see if Barries puts out an "answer" of sorts to California in a song of his.

I hate the album art I keep looking at it and trying to convince myself to like it will def be replacing it

This is true but I think its just her style of directing that doesn't really work. She could really benefit from having someone to edit her ideas but she seems to want to make all of this stuff on her own. her interpretations are too literal and the direction was really weak in k-12. I'll definitely wait and see but from the videos and the movie i don't have high hopes they'd be any better i think she would be great at making "visual albums" with less of a plot like Lemonade was, she has such a strong eye for aesthetics and definitely could knock it out of the park with that

oh my god the next two albums will also be Crybaby? Why doesn’t she just rebrand herself AS Crybaby and start making music under that name at this point like please come up with something else Melanie that said I don’t think she should continue to make films. This was a cool and ambitious project but it had some serious flaws and it doesn’t seem like she learned much from directing all the CBB music videos. You can still make amazing visuals without them all being half-baked “movies”

The film made absolutely no sense and it just came across super amateurish besides the art design The writing was lacking and the scenes just seemed shoehorned together for the most part but i did some of the music video scenes like Strawberry Shortcake and Drama Club. I already knew it would be kind of off since I haven't really liked Melanie's direction in the other videos, she has some great ideas but a lot of them are too hamfisted or half-baked to work I do really like most of the album tho

Early favorites are Class Fight, Teachers Pet, Nurse’s Office and Lunchbox Friends, maybe with the movie that’ll change

Ugh I fucking love her house it’s so beautiful, every time I see it on her ig stories I get so jealous
-
I definitely don't think she's a millionaire, she only has one album and it wasn't a commercial hit like SZA. She probably used whatever was left of the Crybaby funds from sales and touring and whatever else and I'm sure her label funded a lot

Everyone go post your rates in the rate thread! -
We’re back back back again with another rate thread! The rules are simple, rate EACH track from NFR: out of 1-10. After about a week or so I'll average out all the scores to reveal how each song ranks according to the members of LB. To make things more interesting, you can give ONE song a 0 and ONE song an 11. Those numbers are to be reserved for when you really love or really hate a song. If you give more than one song either of those scores, your rate won't be counted. If you'd like you can provide explanations for your rates. Please feel free to discuss with other members in this thread but try not to argue too much The more members contribute to this rate the more accurate it will be so join in!

Should I make a return with my rate threads and do one for NFR?? I miss doing math -
That’s what I thought too but the other lyrics are like “no ones watching us” is it about sex in public oop
-
Like what do the WOTB lyrics mean??? I genuinely can’t tell what that song is about or where it would be in the movie and yeah I agree about Detention and The Principle. LF is okay but I hate that she changed the “cry” lyric to “die” and then explained it meant metaphorically dying? They’re just so vague and boring I always immediatelt forget them after I listen to the snippet when I almost immediately remembered lines the first time listening to CBB
-
Can I say I sort of dislike the lyrics so far from the snippets? None of them really make sense or stand out the way lyrics in CBB did, I haven’t remembered any lyrics from the snippets besides Teachers Pet and “for the throat” from Class Fight
