I want to tell people on here about two very different experiences I had with meeting Lana and meeting Katy Perry and it is to do with how they look.
 
I met Katy in '11 at her California Dreams tour as I won a meet n' greet. I found Katy very intimidating. As lovely as Katy was, she must've had 10 different types of foundation on her face and 20 sets of false eyelashes on her eyes. I have seen drag queens wear less makeup than Katy. I never proudly show off my photo with Katy as I look at it and feel hideous next to this girl who looks like a living doll.
 
Met Lana two days ago and she is a beautiful looking woman. But how refreshing to see a celebrity who is happy to pose for photos with no qualms about not having a full face of make-up on. If you zoom in to the photo I think we can agree that it is me, who actually has more makeup on than Lana! I love her warm smile in this photo. I proudly show off my photo with Lana, and as beautiful as she is, I don't feel like a monster next to her as I did next to Katy.
 
So I kinda agree with the two main arguers in this thread. Yes Foolish, Lana is a celebrity at the end of the day and should turn up more polished looking at events like the Brits. And Crystal Castles, you are right too, don't see why she should be like Joan Collins and get dolled up to get a pint of milk from a shop.

- You've thought about lana del pickup lines
- Being a qt-pseudo gangster is now an important thing to become
- You sometimes think "I wonder what Lana is doing now?"

I used to follow a lanadelrey instagram account for quiet a long time, there were no photo though, then it disappeared on my followed list. And ta-dah it reappeared!
 
Wonder why the two Grant sisters keep posting photos of their father but - almost/barely - post anything about their momma. They're def daddy's girls.

you start trying to draw similarities between your life and Lana's and think "OMG WE ARE EXACTLY THE SAME even if its just because you both know someone named Bob You don't even have to say the name of the artist you are talking about with your friends, they just know its Lana You think gross older guys are really hot and want to call them daddy (ok..maybe not the daddy part) you're lying in bed and thinking "OMG I BET LANA IS SLEEPING NOW TOO," you see a bottle of coke or cola and immediately think of Cola whenever you see Mountain Dew, you think of DMD and hum it you wish you had someone to share all the cute Lizzy photos with you start thinking your hair is inadequate being a go-go dancer sounds really cool you used to think long fake nails were tacky but now they're super cool you suddenly listen to really old songs and watch old movies while Lana plays you look out the car window and imagine its a music video ferrari jackets are the coolest thing ever you suddenly reconsider baseball hats you realize your clothing is fugly and know you're so basic compared to Lana smoking is a lot cooler and doesn't matter if it killed your grandma blue jeans white shirt you think you hear someone humming Lana songs and whip around your head to see if they really are you really really want a nose job and lip injections

I was in love with the song the first time i heard the 40 second snippet and i've listened to it basically six billion times since it got on itunes. it's one of my favorite lana songs, and i think the video is great! the orchestra and the strings and drums is giving me shivers all over man, it's brilliant! and she looks stunning as always.
 
and do i need to mention her smile at 00:37? literally takes my breath away EVERY time. 

In my opinion, the video is quite possibly the most amazing thing she's put out besides Ride. The cinematography is perfect, her makeup and hair are spectacular, and the simplicity makes the song even more beautiful. It has variation in subtle ways that aren't flashy or overdone, and it makes it unique in comparison to any other video out right now.
 
Plus, the homage to the beautiful orchestral video she used in Video Games is perfection. I feel like this video is actually the treatment that Lana wish she was able to give to Video Games. The orchestra, the simplicity, the glamour, and the noir feel would've all fit it perfectly, as they do this song.

You can't expect someone to walk a completly straight line when it comes to delivery HQ art to your liking. First of all, IT'S A FUCKING SOUNDTRACK SINGLE. NOT THE FIRST SINGLE OF AN UPCOMING ALBUM! She's ON TOUR, did you really expect smoke and mirrors for the video? (Okay, we did get mirrors, but C'MON)
Yikes. Yall need to chillax, especially when its still this early in someone career.

I love the song and the video. Those of you who don't like just need to find someone else to like. The song is beautiful, she's beautiful and the video with the orchestra and the cinematography is so awesome.
 
What I really love about this video is that there no scenes from the movie. Just Lana the orchestra. I love the close-ups and the direction. Great video. 

Well stop bitching here. When she was Lizzy Grant and had upbeat songs, nobody cared about her. She has refound herself again as  Lana Del Rey who is known for her slow retro ballads singing in low register. And this whole mysterious image works for her and really captivated people...  Honestly I dont think she can stay famous with spears-wannabe songs like St. Tropez; they are not distinctive or original, anyone could sing them. 

I think it's difficult to say that she's going downhill on the basis of the only track released since Paradise, and a seemingly phoned-in video. If you disliked Paradise, too, then fair enough, but I think that judgement should be reserved until we have more substantial new material to make an informed statement. Both Young & Beautiful and this video have quite clearly not been her primary focus; considering that this track is lyrically adapted for the movie rather than a bespoke creation, and that the video was likely done inbetween recording sessions, photoshoots, possibly touring (if having to "re-record" is accurate) then she's obviously going to stick to what she knows, play it safe, and not devote all of her time and attention to it. 
 
I do agree that Young & Beautiful and this video are far from her best work, but I wouldn't use it against her just yet.
