I think the success of Ride and Noir in this list might indicate that novelty is an advantage in these sort of polls. I wonder whether Sirens songs would have done better if this was taken back in May. I wonder whether I would have voted for Try Tonight when my love for it was fresh. As it is, the only Sirens song I voted for was A Star for Nick. (Fat lot of good it did. )

I love how these playlists are like getting a new album every time, even with all the overlap!
Okay, I tried to make an alternate version of Born to Die, sort of what it would have sounded like in a parallel universe if EH hadn't intervened. (Not that I don't like the final result; I love it, but sometimes I overplay it and need a fresh take on it.) So I put demo versions of all the songs in the same order as the BTD tracklist (well, with a live version of OTTR). And I kinda liked it, but lost interest quickly.
But then I decided to mix it up, and add songs that sound like they could have been intended for BTD, and here is what I came up with!
THE REVENGE OF LANA DEL REY
Hey Lolita Hey (Lolita demo 1) (3:51)
This Is What Makes Us Girls (demo 1) (3:36)
Lucky Ones (demo) (3:48)
Never Let Me Go (4:07)
Blue Jeans (demo)
Video Games (demo) (2:14)
Dark Paradise (demo 1) (2:25)
Kinda Outta Luck (3:17)
Happy Birthday Mr. President (0:54)
You Can Be the Boss (3:05)
She Walks Into Mine (0:08)
National Anthem (demo 1) (3:37)
Dangerous Girl (4:22)
Diet Mtn Dew (demo 3) (3:39)
Off to the Races (5:00)
Million Dollar Man (demo) (3:42)
Hundred Dollar Bill (demo) (3:13)
Carmen (demo) (4:17)
She's Not Me (3:46)
Without You (demo 1) (3:06)
Born to Die (demo 2) (4:21)
Radio (demo) (3:31)
Driving in Cars (4:17)

Nice. I learned how to sing from a decade+ of obsessively listening to/studying The Beach Boys (though i still can't pick apart their harmonies). This is such a great way to learn, singing along, in a mindful and kind of analytical way, to an artist with whom you're really familiar. It may be a slower process than traditional methods, but it's a great, indispensable teacher. It goes for music in general too--nothing is a better music educator, i think, than just obsessively listening (critically) to records.
Yes, I think so, too. First of all, I never wanted my voice to be shaped by a vocal teacher because usually there is strong tendency it will end up sounding like one of those professional but "soulless" musical star voices. Also, recording yourself and massively cringing, redoing the recording and so on and so on is very helpful, too.
I found Lana due to her vocal range probably the best vocalist to "learn with." Her timbre is way more colorful than many other popsingers'.
Yay, there's hope for me!
Boarding School is groovy and telling and no one but Lana could sing it.
Hit & Run is essential pop Lana, like top 5 pop tracks from her.
Making Out can choke.
Pin Up Galore...do not get me started on dark Lizzy ditties, because I will snap some opposing necks.
Us Against the World can choke.
YES. And Break My Fall delivers a smart, strong perspective all coated in ear candy yumminess.
(But I agree with the point that none of them would do well on popular radio.)

Kinda Outta Luck - "Sin City" from a female POV :badbitch:
Blue Jeans - The video that made me fall in love with Lana Del Rey.
Gramma - Because I was a W. Axl Rose groupie too.
Hey Lolita Hey - Because I can put a feminist spin on anything.
Video Games - A true work of art that deserves every bit of recognition it's got.
You Can Be the Boss - Um... just because.

I think by saying she got clean, she meant drinking...
Normally, people don't say "getting clean" about drinking, and if I remember correctly, the youtube comment was in response to someone talking about their experience with meth. Also, she said she hadn't had a drink for 10 years (something like that, I can't remember exactly) so she wouldn't be drinking in her trailer park days.
I can't say for sure, obviously, but I would think if someone who got off alcohol was trying to encourage someone who got off meth, they might say something like "I got clean too."

I can't say I love it more than the original,
but I absolutely love the new Yayo. The piano,
the burlesque/jazzy vocals. The only thing missing
to make it perfect is the "lined with yellow lights on
a dark night (niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight)".
She sort of used that "moment" at the beginning of Yayo (2012), the way she sings "and the iiink bluuuuuuuuuuuue......."

I downloaded this track a while ago called "Diet Mountain Dew (Reprise)", Is that a demo or is it fanmade? Also, I have a track called "Trash Sugar Magic", what's that?
"Trash Sugar Magic" = what Jesse from LDR.FM called the version of "Trash Magic" with the verses from what we now call "The Man I Love."

...with METH PRINCESS (Fan Mix)...
Is this by any chance "Methed Up Barbie"? If so, please do share!

Unless David Lee Roth has fallen on significantly harder times these days, I think DD must be a nickname

So even if they're from 2005, because they saw the light of day in 2012, they can be "best of 2012"?

Congrats Sitar! I know you'll go far in life as a graphic artist who can write... or a writer who can graphic-art... or something

Happened to a friend of mine. The relations weren't with the priest, but the priest did the blaming (on her). Yay, humans.

A song about a deranged preacher, huh?
Come on Little Jimmy, she's the daughter of a preacher
In the land of gods and angels, I was a demon
Lightin up the eyes of a deacon
This song reminds me that I have to atone for my sins and lies.
It happens all too often, actually. There's quite a few shitstorms raging in the evangelical community right now, as cases of sexual exploitation by pastors come to light. Most people can agree that sex with a minor is a crime for a reason, and the adult should be held legally accountable. But it seems that most churches can't resist blaming the young girl at least as much as the older man. (And God help her if she's technically of age at the time.) These people need to wake up and realize that feminine desire is not in itself a problem in need of fixing. These young girls' feelings matter too, and that's a major reason why I love this song so much.
(TBH my head almost exploded when I first heard it. Two online worlds converging and stuff.)
Which song by Lana Del Rey best describes you?
