  1. peace by lana del rey

i was originally going to listen to AKA to bring in the new year like i've done the past two years, but yesterday, i felt like sirens was more fitting because i found myself feeling more emotionally heavy and vulnerable, and the song that played when the clock striked midnight was peace (i started listening at 11:30pm)... my favorite song off of sirens and one that means a lot to me

And setting the record straight… is lolita a 2008 or 2010 song? Who produced all the demos? Which demo was made by dan grench?

i'm not sure about who produced which demos, maybe lanapedia lists them, but the first demo is from 2010

he even specified that it’s not really the matter of his own opinion rather than actual fact, his quote “Btw about that (Serene Queen), this was rather a fact than a personal opinion. It was a scruffy demo made in a day whilst there are many songs that were being worked on for months in 2016 and ended up being unused”

serene queen being a random rough demo made in one day is just so crazy :heidi: i can only imagine what the other outtakes are like, i bet they're fabulous

Marina's always has a political message in her music, going back to her first album. She's always been "woke"

but marina wasn't vaguely criticizing capitalism while on the same album also having a track bragging about being a millionaire :um4:

The Jan 16 2007 MySpace FKP2 is the same as the Paolo ver (dated 1-24-07) - I assume the latter was just a typo or a different export with minuscule mixing etc differences ? I've got a file of it somewhere from Jan 19, 2007 that I'll try to find/upload in a bit

mystery solved! it's nice to know it's a version we already have, i would say it would be cool to have another version of it existing... but perhaps it's for the best that there's not yet another song to dream of that we'll likely not ever hear :$

i wonder if her session with paolo de gregorio was one of her first, if not, the first studio session she ever did

Love the thread, great job!! We really had fun this year with info. Not many songs, but at least we're fully aware now that we have TONS of songs to look forward to. I think circa 2018-2020 people were saying the well was running dry and stuff like "Serene Queen" were scrapping the bottom of the barrel... since then, not only we got the Lust For Life names, but even more Lizzy\early stuff leaking left and right. There's more Born To Die outtakes out there like... we're ALIVE!

i can't believe BOZ described serene queen as bottom of the barrel, if that's bottom of the barrel i cannot begin to imagine what the more complete, top of the barrel lust for life outtakes are like, i remember it was quite the event when serene queen leaked

i actually kinda wonder if we're possibly running dry on lizzy grant stuff, since majority of lizzy song music leaks from the past few years have actually come from the march 2009 demo CD we just found out about, even songs that leaked a few years ago, like i learned how to make love from the movies and trash magic demo 1 came from it, as well as some of the song titles revealed by honeymouns in summer of 2020, such as neon palmmm, beach boys, wolf t-shirt, meth love, etc. we have pretty much everything from that CD now, so there may not be a lot of lizzy grant stuff going around, but you never really know, it feels like there's always so much more, it's crazy to think about the fact that she probably recorded 100s of demos during that time, some of which we may never get the chance to hear

I've absolutely forgotten where I read this, but I recall a piece of email correspondence to a friend or something to that effect where Lizzy said OSCYS was a deeply personal song for her, that she often sang it to herself as a kind of comforting mantra. So, that one may have just been too close to her heart for her to give it a lot of public attention, and I can still see her cutting it from a later tracklist for that reason

that just makes me love oh say can you see even more than before, if that's even possible :xcry: to think it was so special and personal to her, i can see why, it's so blissful, dreamy, and comforting :cryney2:

  8. i wish people would stop blaming the producers entirely for the sound they don't like when ultimately lana's the one who decides how the music sounds, nobody's forcing her to work with any particular producer or to make her music sound a certain way, she worked with mike dean of all people and still made a piano ballad

I really wonder what was it about this album that Lizzy hated so much... she's said a couple times that it didn't turn out how she wanted so I wonder what her vision for the album was before David Kahne took control... her vision for the album post Mertens / pre-Kahne is so interesting to me

I also think it's really interesting how this album was put on hold for two years because she didn't like it and we almost got a completely different album by 2010

I can't even imagine what this album would have been like if she went through with adding those other songs

      Reveal hidden contents

I predict the album would have been something like:

    Kill Kill

    Pin Up Galore

Hawaiian Tropic / Every Man Gets His Wish

    Gramma

    Pawn Shop Blues

    Raise Me Up

    For K pt. 2

    Hundred Dollar Bill

    Jump

    Diet Mountain Dew

    Motel 6

    Queen of the Gas Station

    Yayo

Could be totally off but I sense the vibe :whatever2:

i don't really believe she hated it or wasn't at all satisfied with the result, because she still made music videos for a majority of the songs, uploaded them onto her social media platforms like myspace and soundcloud, and performed the songs in david kahne-esque renditions (notably mermaid motel), but i also kinda believe she wanted it to be more similar to steven mertens' demos compared to david kahne's production, i believe in the past she would describe her first album (AKA) being made by her boyfriend which obviously isn't exactly the truth, since AKA is produced by david kahne, but she seemed to appreciate the work she did with steven mertens, and his versions of AKA songs are definitely different compared to the david kahne versions, queen of the gas station was more mellow, mermaid motel was a lot more free-form, trippy, almost like her own kind of epic, and put me in a movie had more prominent instrumentation like the electric guitar, i feel like her live performance of it at the mercury lounge is a lot more similar to the steven mertens version, also, brite lites was more rock-oriented, but on the contrary, the ocean and kill kill are very, very similar

not to mention the fact that gramma and smarty were written in the studio, so they weren't songs she originally wrote and had in mind for the album, but that isn't to say she didn't like them or feel connected to them, smarty was uploaded to soundcloud at some point and she wouldn't have made...7? 8? videos for gramma if she didn't like it!

it's hard to say exactly for sure how everything went down and how everybody felt surrounding the project, i'm sure there's some songs she wanted to include on the album, like get drunk, trash magic, or pin up galore, that david kahne just didn't think would make the cut, or maybe she just envisioned the final product to be different, but all we can really do is speculate, i do believe she was happy with and proud of the album at the end of the day, but it does have a complicated history, especially since i'm sure at some points she probably felt she couldn't talk about or acknowledge that time of her career because everybody in 2012 was so convinced she was a fake, talentless industry plant who changed her entire identity because her first album flopped, and i'm sure people at the time perceived it to be a cheap, low-effort, basic flop, but it's really one of her most fascinating eras and it 100% deserved better

lastly... i'm so, so glad they didn't let her add/remove any tracks lol, i think the album is absolutely perfect, down to the tracklisting of each individual song, i'm actually glad they changed it from the original one starting with for k, pt. 2, ending with mermaid motel, and having yayo as the fourth track because that one just made no sense

Sorry I know I can look myself but can somebody quote Honeymouns post about the "collection" of Lizzy songs that he posted about today. I need to compare something. Also, I want to see which ones of the collection we haven't gotten yet.
