Hmmm, unsure. I imagine people only hacked her cos they wanted the songs, she said they weren't being released and played them in full giving fans an appetite for them (self inflicted). It seems that they got some of the exchange songs alongside XCX3 and that's when things derailed. Still so strange to me that the people who hacked her went ahead and leaked the whole album a month before it's apparent release. Like fuck. Why didn't they wait til September to see if the album was coming, before ruining it completely for her. I for one am so glad that the Exchange show happened, it really defined the N1A era, the red coat, the new moody production, the no fucks given vibe, it was really a peak for her.
-
I personally really liked the more stripped back approach of Boys, I'd love her to have released Issues too... I just don't understand how her team were gonna push a cohesive album using those styles of song alongside GNO for example. It's for the best that XCX World never happened tbh.
-
I do believe that the first draft or two included Taxi, but Charli herself confirmed that the songs performed at Exchange weren't for the album (other than maybe No Angel). So realistically from February 2017 the song was scrapped. And then the album changed direction again with Boys being released and her being given material from writers by her label.
-
I mean, nobody knows Charli said something like "taxi will be released one day" and SOPHIE entertained the idea of releasing it once. I think she played it at Pop 2 just for a laugh cos she was getting so much harassment from fans for the track. I think it was originally intended for the album and was maybe part of an early draft, but at the Exchange show it was confirmed to not be on the album alongside Hey Boy, Hey Girl etc. We know the album artwork for XCX World was shot in 2016, so edited around that time too (when the song was probably on the album). It was scrapped at the Exchange show, the album draft that leaked in August didn't include the song. And a taxi helicopter was featured on the artwork, but that could just be part of the aesthetic or cos the song was on the early version of the album (the album art was shot in 2016). I think it has only ever been speculation, Blame It On was supposed to be released instead of Girls Night Out and then we got 1999. She played the remaining monthly drops at the Spotify event and Taxi wasn't mentioned.
-
Also, sounds harsh but Charli obviously really believed in XCX World and was so passionate about it but both the mixtapes are better in my opinion.
-
Damn, what a time that was she was hating on her label all the time on Twitter and Insta, it was so hard for her to release Number 1 Angel. Glad she persevered. I remember her asking how to leak music, and Lily Allen responded telling her to make her own CDs and lose them in a public place. Imagine Charli furiously printing homemade copies of Number 1 Angel and dropping them on the streets of the UK hahahahahahaha.
-
Nah they're definitely wrong aha, she was live all the time on Insta, talking about the mixtape and she said that Roll With Me was the only song on the mixtape we knew, she teased Dreamer a lot at this time too. I think No Angel was always gonna be on the album, and at the time of Number 1 Angel, the album was still coming in September.
-
Ugh I know, I mentioned how I wanted the mixtapes on CD and got slated previously But that cover on glossy paper with foil lettering, a holographic disc, ugh. I need it.
-
Ugh she needs to release a photo book, the VV, N1A and Pop2 shoots are amazing

Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

I mean it depends on the label situation I think, I imagine there's contracts and legalities between Interscope and Jack, and some producers only give the label the rights to the music on the grounds of it having to be released. I'm sure it would ultimately be Lana's decision (whether she releases the music or not), but it wouldn't be in her best interest as an artist, the label would be frustrated to think they'd funded months of sessions with a big name producer for the whole body of work to be scrapped and ultimately they'd be at a loss and I imagine it could damage her relationship with her label. Just putting this out there: but maybe something like this happened with Lana during the Ultraviolence era, in terms of visuals. I remember her shooting the UV video and then scrapping it in favour of a new director and then there were no more visuals that era for the singles and the budget for Honeymoon visuals were clearly limited too. But also as a professional artist; it would make Lana look bad when approaching other producers in the future. She'd be labelled a risk, imagine being a producer and committing time, money and energy into a project (often passing up opportunities to work with other artists) for her to decide to scrap everything at the end. -

Plus, even if she had've scrapped all the original Jack material (hypothetically) in favour of new music, we know she was working with Jack on country music. So get ready. Hey Blue Baby coming January 11th from the forthcoming album Buffalo Fucking Bill, available June 22nd! -

Absolutely, it's perfect. I imagine we'll get another single in January, alongside the album art and release date etc. She'll talk about the album and tease song titles etc throughout the Gucci campaign (there'll be lots of press so perfect promo). We'll probably get a buzz single in February alongside the pre-order and then the album in March. -

Damn, how many times, NFR has not been scrapped! We legit have a release date, we know the album was in it's final stages (and Jack was still working with her), she's just enjoying her holidays, getting ready to launch the Gucci campaign and most likely finalising the album (i.e. tracklist, art work etc.) -
Yeah, I 100% think she's playing dumb or acting as if there's nothing left to leak... She's obviously aware of the whole XCX World album and extras leaking, I imagine she now knows Taxi etc. leaked since she's no longer being harassed and I doubt she cares about pre-Vroom Vroom material being out there. We all know that there's new music from the last 2 years that hasn't leaked and she still has, likely that it's scrapped, sold to another artist or is nice and secure for the upcoming project. I know she said Party 4 U is probably on the internet, but I think she was being witty rather than assuming all her music had leaked. I mean we all know songs like Attention, Bricks, Dance All Night, Next Life, Party 4 U, Party Party, Shoes etc. all remain unleaked.

What's the name of the podcast please? cos that link keeps failing on my Spotify...

Yeah, I know they weren't pushed by the label or promoted - but I do believe that CTMP will flop hard... I mean we probably won't even get CTMP anyways. So it's not even worth discussing haha.
-
You really believe that? Look at GNO and No Angel, the streams are terrible! What makes CTMP any different? We need new material for us and the GP to support, you all know you'd play CTMP once or twice a week before you get bored and demand the next single. And before people start with the whole "but it will be in HQ" and "it has new production" etc. GNO had minor changes, then No Angel was reproduced by Invisible Men and had a whole new bridge - also it hadn't even leaked prior to release, but cos we'd heard the live version a hundred times it bombed.
-
I 100% agree! The fact that the monthly drop was the first official audio we had of it (SOPHIE demo leaking afterwards) and it just bombed. I know they weren't official singles but I would've loved to have seen a music video and promo for the track. A true hidden gem in her discography.
-
Come To My Party would not be a hit in 2019! The song is dated, lyrically it's regressive for Charli. Plus having been leaked and available online for over a year now, means it's likely to bomb. It'd be a nice buzz track (if it is even gonna be released) along with the album pre-order or something. I agree they need to have another strong single to follow and I think it needs to be a new unheard song! Angels aren't gonna stream a song they've had for over a year (see GNO and No Angel) enough for it to have an impact. CTMP is too much of a gamble for her.
-
Now what I really need from Charli is a studio docuseries... Like the making of an album etc. Her process with AG, choosing beats and instrumentals. Writing songs to the music and creating melodies etc. Recording the songs in studio, watching a song evolve from demo to final. Her process in picking features and collaborators. Styling and photoshoot, her vision for an album cover and then the making of it. Ugh... I want it all.
-
Can anybody send me or link me to 14 (the album) pleaseee. Much love!
-
This! For me it was so fresh but instant, especially off the back of Vroom Vroom which was more experimental for her. I love Pop 2 also and it has grown on me a lot, however Number 1 Angel is the one.
