Argh I can't believe I don't like this. Well that's too strong. Vocals, music, they're lovely. But lyrically it irks me. I'm not saying I could do better, but I’ve seen the world done it all, Had my cake, now. Diamonds, brilliant, And Bel Air, now. I mean that's the intro to the song, the intro should really draw you in in my opinion, but it's so...basic? Bland? I think snipping this out would improve the song wonders for me, though the 'Like diamonds' is incredibly unsatisfying too. I don't know, I hope I eat my words and learn to love it. It so annoyed me when people took such an immediate dislike to it, and I'm not bothered at all >.<

Lol any Lana fan would know that, but when it's a studio recording i.e. cost money/studio time/took up the time of an important producer to create I have to wonder if it had another purpose.

So, what are the reasons a singer would just stick a studio recorded cover and video on the interwebs with no chance of profit? Just fun? To test the water and maybe use it if the response is good? Could it have been a contender for the new album but didn't make the final cut?
