Her old Myspace listed Elliott Smith, I don't think he's been mentioned.

I'm surprised this is even a question, I've always heard: You'd make the nighttime more to day (I guess you could argue for "today", but the general concept stands). Meaning -- if he had his way, he'd extend nighttime so there was less time for daylight. So the world is a more darker place, etc. Dark, mysterious, depressed people like the nighttime, pretty commonly used theme. The next line reaffirms, "So it suits the mood of your soul" -- the real world doesn't match his internal world. If it were darker more often, the world would be much more like how it is inside of him (apparently it's pretty deep since it's his soul). Seems reasonable to me

More dates will probably be announced after Coachella. It isn't uncommon for any artist to play 3-4 warmup shows before setting off on a bigger tour.

lol $122 is the cheapest price. That's double what I paid. Looks like blog spam.

Trim the header height down considerably, change the CSS from: background: url('http://lanaboards.com/header.png') repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent); to background: url('http://lanaboards.com/header.png') no-repeat top center transparent); and leave the fall-back on background: #000; There is no need for a PNG file this large: http://lanaboards.com/header.png with all that black space, especially when you have a fallback CSS that is already black. I ran network activity in Firefox and this is absolutely the issue that bogs down the loading time:

I'll agree with that point, the problem is he hardly ever restrains himself. I blame Daft Punk for all of this. -

Moroder does Italo Disco. In the late 70s after the Bee Gees took over the world, there was a huge backlash in the US. People filled a baseball park in Chicago even and smashed all their disco records on "Disco Sucks Day". In Europe, disco never died though. So you got a lot of Italian and German producers making one-off singles under a million different names. They were all pretty cheesy because they're done in English and these people had not the best command of the language. Punk was big in the UK and US during the early 80s then quickly died. Eventually, it all kind of collided with New Wave which was more popular in the U.S. when synthesizers became cheaper and eventually digital in the late 80s. Moroder was one of the few that made the crossover to the US partially because of his film work. Niles Rodgers would be more considered a purer disco producer. He's the one who did Daft Punk's last record and he's done a ton of others before that. You know him when you hear him. He was in Chic (they did the songs "Good Times" and "Le Freak" you might have heard). His disco has that high-fret guitar sound to it, where as Moroder relies on an analog synthesizer hook. So there's a short history lesson. Honestly, I think Lana signed on solely because she likes Scarface and it's soundtrack. Lana used to do camp a little more than she does now, so there might be some appeal there. -

I don't know maybe it's because I'm probably older than some of you or more into this kind of music -- but the only good contributions that Moroder did was with Donna Summer and even then it was proto-Italo (like "Hot Stuff"). Moroder was in-demand somewhat in the 80s, Berlin made "Take My Breath Away", it'd be hard for a producer to fuck that up, and no one remembers "What a Feeling" compared to "Maniac" from the same movie. And if you want to pull the " he worked with David Bowie" card, it's probably because Bowie could never get Kraftwerk to work with him who he was absolutely enamored with. Vangelis is cheesy as hell (but at least seems to have the self-awareness that Moroder seems to lack) and has won Grammys for scores too, but I wouldn't want him producing anything for anyone. -

I don't get this renewed interest in Moroder. He was cheesy in the 70s-80s, forgotten in the 90s-00s, and now just because Daft Punk brings him back he's passed this threshold where he's considered "good". Dude sucks, there's a reason why Italo Disco didn't take in the U.S. He is so campy and doesn't realize it still after 40 years. Yeah I get the Scarface soundtrack but it fit with the film, lest anyone remembers his abortion to Metropolis. -
I'd say these are "warm-up" dates. After Coachella, I'd full expect to see an East Coast tour announced under some kind of title ("______ Tour") then later a return to the West Coast and UK/Europe. After that then other major markets like Mexico, Australia, Brazil, etc. Also, she's not going to perform the whole album at any festival. The time slots are too limited per artist.

Looks good I'd change: Wholly in the sky, like a pizza pie. (She is thrown completely up, holy makes no sense) I like a man with kick yeah (I really don't hear an 'n' sound and it sounds like the demo where it's obviously "kick" that rhymes later with "lick") But I don’t need no jet to write it in the sky (like a skywriter, it's an old motif -- someone goes to great lengths to express their love by writing a message with jet trails in the sky)

Ultraviolence - Pre-Release Thread

Not all the songs have to be dark. Like I said, I'm not buying into anything Lana says. I'm just saying that BCD is a good example of how one could describe "almost unlistenable". I don't think it'll be on there because I just can't see it flowing well. -
So what about non festival shows? Is there any chance?

I can see BCD being what Lana would call "almost unlistenable" it's got a lot going on -- organized chaos. I don't know if it'll be on there though. -

Black Beauty can qualify as dark. I think it'll be redone and we'll see it on there. If anything, just dealing with the leak and letting people cover it, etc. will just add hype for the album. -

I don't really buy into any of Lana's descriptions. I do hope it's darker than the first. Otherwise, I just see it as her way of hyping it. -
Looks like SF artist presale is sold out now. I just tried for a friend and no luck. I'm sure there will be a good amount for the APE presale tomorrow.
-
I got in after trying 20 times, yayy!
-
Yeah it isn't working for the Artist Presale, hopefully it all doesn't go to scalpers first. I got in with another code but it says No Tickets available, so it's useless anyway. Looks like there's no tickets or an extremely small amount released for the "artist presale". Looks like they just put up the tickets a little late
-
Presale codes depend on venues sometimes
-
See ya'll at the Billy Graham Excited! I wasn't into her when she packed Amoeba but I was at the bar next door. I remember it being crazy then. Yeah it's a "medium-big" venue. I think the Fox in Oakland is bigger, it gets some bigger artists sometimes. If she were really big she'd be playing the Oracle Arena. But the Billy Graham is one of the biggest venues in the city. I expect it to sell out very quickly. She's popular here. You guys are silly too, she'll play stuff from BTD and Paradise. These shows will probably have 3-4 new songs if we're lucky. It's meant to tease, especially any show before the album comes out.

Registering will probably be late in the game. Before the first single. Lana is ASCAP isn't she? Their repertoire is messy online unlike BMI. She's also at the mercy of a collective outside of her R-Rated Music Publishing too. I'd expect a single in early April. That's a bit close but I think the intent is for the single to hit hard and then people will buy the album and it'll be a summer smash. -

I don't think this is comparable to the Tropico scenario. I also agree that the AFFA/BB leak was not intentional. It's going to be on a Tuesday because that's how it works in the US. Born to Die has an official release date in the US of 1/31/12 and Paradise on 11/13/12. They use that timetable because that's the tradition from physical stores and it carries over still because press, digital stores (iTunes, Amazon, etc) all are on it; there's a whole marketing aspect to it as well. Albums get released on other days in the US but they aren't on major labels and it's uncommon even then. The UK and Europe will see it a few days earlier since they have their own timetables and Polydor covers her releases over in the UK. The way leaking is anymore, official dates don't matter much. I'd expect to be listening to by late April to early May and that's a good enough time indication for me. -

Albums drop on Tuesdays in the U.S., May 1 is a Thursday. I doubt it'll be on May 1, but probably sometime in May. -
Why did Barrie quit his band? That was a dumb move if he just left voluntarily. I don't follow them at all but it seems they at least had a decent following in the UK. He should try to regain traction over there.
