Norman Fucking Rockwell - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll

Oh wow thats what I've been feeling about this album but couldn't put into words, thanks. It definitely lacks the cinematic/mysterious vibes the other albums had, and it's funny how Jack said his intention was to leave some space for imagination when, for me, this is her most straight forward album. As you said, it's pretty straight forward so it doesn't leave much for you to figure out or a situation to create on your own mind. But on the other hand I like this album because it doesn't require much thinking, if that makes sense? Lana herself said this is a mood album and I love to listen to it while doing nothing, it's a great album to listen while lying in bed staring at the ceiling lmao -

I don't know... from the artists I've seen working with Jack I think St. Vincent was the one who had the most control and took him far away from his usual sound. Of course Masseduction has songs like Happy Birthday Johnny and New York that scream Jack but others like Masseduction and Smoking Section doesn't sound like his work. But when it comes to Lorde, Taylor and Lana I can pinpoint certain similarities about the songs he produced for them, especially when it comes to piano ballads. Yeah, each of them has their "signature" but Jack's style is very apparent. (p.s. who's the guy from the gif? I feel sorry for him because I already hate him from how much you spammed this goddamn gif in the last four months lmao) I wish I knew what this means but I have zero knowledge when it comes to Radiohead -

I'm so scared of Lana repeating Norman's sound in the next album. She never did that, each album has its own and unique sound but I can't see Jack going that far away from Norman's production and style. I really hope she surprises us. -

Glad she knows her next album will have big shoes to fill I don't wanna say that it's impossible for her to top NFR because I never thought NFR would get this amount of acclaim, but I sure do hope she can at least come close to it. -

Alexis Petridis really lost lmao -
If she had put more thought into it I'm sure she could've created a nice video with a great storyline. HIAB is so out of place because suddenly all that chaos just vanished like what's up with that? Maybe if she showed herself getting away from all that war and finding a "safe" place it could've been better, but I bet she wasn't paying much attention to storyline or anything like that lmao

I mean she still delivered three amazing and professional music videos this era so this short film is more like something she did just because she felt like doing it. I'm pretty sure this is not supposed to be taken seriously like The Greatest, for example, it's just her being silly and having fun with her art. Is this her best visual effort? No, but I think it's cute and better than Honeymoon and Ultraviolence so I'll take it.
-
I... kinda like it But I wish the overall theme of this short film was the apocalypse or something like that. Bartender was my favorite visual by far with all those aircrafts and explosions, and with Norman it looked like she was in a safe heaven or something like that but then we get HIAB and it's totally random anyway it could've been better but it's not awful.

When she announced White Hot Forever she said: 1. she had already written parts of it and 2. it would probably be surprise released in the next 12 months Its obvious she meant a music album, not a spoken words album. Also, she said she started writing the songs and since this new project will be freestyle I doubt she would write songs for it lmao but the good sis could have changed her mind in the meantime so... but White Hot Forever and this spoken word album are two different projects until she says otherwise.
-
No, in the video she posted she mentions "the album she's currently working on" = white hot forever this is just a side project neither, she said this is "freestyle poetry" and the poems from the book are all already done so she wouldn't have to freestyle them, right? also, she said the book is taking a lot of time to hand bind ( ) so this is just a thing she's putting out in the meantime In other words: White Hot Forever, Violet Bend Backwards (The Land of 1000 Fires?) and this spoken word album are three different projects.

I love Lana but sometimes I feel like she thinks she's the spokesperson of white people regarding other cultures, ethnicities and the sort. Her saying she feels the need to do some "reparations" regarding native americans... like I'm sure she means no harm but something like that can be taken out of context and twisted pretty easily to become something people can hold against her. I don't know how well received a white girl doing native american inspired music will be but oh well let's wait and see...
