Believe her or don't, all we really have to go off of is what she says so

She's reissuing NTMT and said there will be a bonus track on it, which is pretty obviously gonna be Pretty Dull (especially because she's teased snippets of it in between Masochism)

What I like about all the snippets we've heard is that there seems to be much more variety than NTMT. NTMT was basically bullet proof in terms of cohesion, Masochism on the other hand seems to have different tones already. Downhill lullaby is a gothic chamber pop song with sweeping strings. Artificial Love, and Prayers for rain are basically piano driven ballads with a twinkling 80s touch (guardian also fits here too) Tears of Fire, and All to myself are midtempo bangers with explosive choruses, grungier feeling too. Then we have those two snippets she teased back when she had blue hair and the album was more fever ray with acidy beats. Not to mention she has a string of covers, voices carry (til tuesday), jump in the river (sinead o'connor), down in flames (jorge elbrecht), hands all over me (tamaryn), and possibly live to tell (madonna). It's very exciting, everything already sounds good, we just need her to cross the finish line in the upcoming months.

Marina can be quite contrived, and her reasons for things have always been flimsy or superficial (not necessarily a bad thing all the time). The froot era was kind of a disaster in the way that you could tell how sick she was of her fans, and even of herself, but it was kind of no different than the latter half of the EH era either. She just burns out quick. I mean right at the beginning during the family jewels she said that "her musical candle had already melted 25%" This career has always felt like it had some kind of ending. A name change has been a simple way to control image. It's got nothing to do with being more personal, her new songs have the least personality out of anything in her career. Maybe she's come to the end of her personality and this is the result. As for the music. There's no denying it's her most insipid work to date. Devoid of any real insights and isn't even beautifully written/sounding. She's been spread completely thin, her candle has pretty much melted. We can expect a few cute songs to come but her singles run has never been this atrocious. Maybe we can all just blame clean bandit.

After hearing the first 4 singles from this upcoming album, I'm honestly glad that she changed her name because the music is so awful that I can at least separate the two

The beauty of sky is she has such an accomplished and varied discography, people come at it from different angles and the quality is so good that trinities/top fave songs don't clearly overlap

Hate to be that person but I still want Party4U, maybe a reworked version. I think it's one of her saddest songs and a great way to show a different side of partying. BIOYL/P4U double single pls!
