  1. I'll also participate again next week. As for albums to review, perhaps Zella Day's Kicker? It's been out for like 3 weeks and has had both really good and some iffier reviews.
  2. Ok so for starters I didn't know if you wanted grades aside from A, C, and F so I did the colors but have the specific letter grade next to them depending on how that works. Alright, so this was really far outside of my normal stuff but I liked it more than I thought I would. Aside from the music itself I will say that I really like his voice - whether it was an intent or not (some of the lyrics made it seem like maybe it was) I feel like he consciously played with androgyny and preconceived ideas on how people are "supposed" to sound and that was a really refreshing diversion from everything else that's been coming out recently and for forever. 1. VEGAS (rating: B)- Not something I would really throw on whenever just to chill, but I like the way it moves along and the saxophone in the background made for a solid opener. 2. MAKE A SCENE (rating: A)- I like this better than the first track, it flows better and the lyrics are really good - "It's side-effects of teen idleness, so // adulthood is one big mess." 3. ON THE REGULAR (rating: A)- Prbly my second fave on the album, so nice and carefree. 4. CALL IT OFF (rating: B)- A bit repetitive, yes, but I feel like it was probably intentional and even if it wasn't it was done well. 5. HOT MESS (rating: D)- Just not really feeling this one, the production isn't all that great and the distorted voice was really grating after a while. 6. DEMON (rating: A)- It sounds so light and happy compared to the rest and it adds a nice little break in the album without being jarring. 7. IN FOR THE KILL (rating: A)- Yes omg '20s vibes here we go. Fave off the album. Also the beginning reminds me of seagulls. I like seagulls. 8. YOUTH (rating: C)- For some reason the fact that it's so chill isn't really sitting all that well with me. 9. DARKER (rating: D)- So much potential but I really don't like the production - too floaty and doesn't really have any oomph to it. 10. HEAD IN THE CLOUDS (rating: B)- A nice bouncy little way to end the album, nothing exceptional though. 11. KC (BONUS TRACK) (rating: C)- Indifferent towards this one, not really my cup of tea.
  3. I don't see it coming much later, I mean you post snippets and shit like that to start hype and there's no point doing that if you wait till that hype dies down to actually release anything.
  4. Every time we get multiple posts in a day I get way too excited - mayhaps we'll be getting some actual info from her in the immediate future?
  5. I'm expecting her to announce the single over the weekend, I mean it makes sense that she'd wanna take a week off after the tour. How certain are we that Honeymoon is gonna be the first song though? It's so slow and while I'm sure that wouldn't be much of an issue for fans I sincerely doubt the label would sign off on that.
  6. Like late '60s exploitation films, you can't call it soft porn but almost - like the Voodoo Passion movie that got posted, although maybe slightly less explicit. The snippet just gives off that atmosphere to me.
  7. I'm getting some exploitation vibes from the song's atmosphere, if the album ends up going that route I'll die of happiness.
  8. Even though a lot of you guys are thinking SK has a chance at being on the album, I really don't think it will - didn't a band member say that the label was questioning why she wanted to play the unreleased tracks? I highly doubt it would have been a questionable decision had they been intended for the album. That being said if Lana were to have an unreleased track or two on the record, I can see a reworked Afraid being included in the last third of the tracklist - the song ties in with the Honeymoon lyrics and I'm not entirely convinced the entire album will be as light as it's being made out to be.
  9. Best - Tie between Is This Happiness? and The Other Woman Worst - FMWUTTT
  10. I'm shocked we've only got three pics of the new lyrics so far. Kinda looks like there's a decent number of pages for the Honeymoon section, should be interesting to see what happens later on.
  11. Artists usually film videos for songs right around release, right? I'm hoping she'll do a live premiere Thursday/Friday and release it early next week.
  12. Wasn't there something about how she already had a pic in mind? I swear I saw that somewhere a while back.
  13. BTD: Lucky Ones, the lyrics are cliche but it's relaxing and it makes me happy. Paradise: Yayo/American, but I'm leaning a bit more towards Yayo. UV: PWYC/ITH, there's no way of picking between the two.
  14. I agree with this, she definitely ends the line with an "awk" sound - I thought she was saying "Estark" but the only place with that name that I could find is in Iran, so.....
  15. "They don't mean shit/compared to all your drugs." - as to why iTunes considers this explicit and not the numerous uses of "bitch", the world may never know.
  16. For me its SoC > UV = WC. There's just something about the atmosphere that Shades of Cool creates that I personally really love and I also think that it's the strongest melodically/vocally and has the perfect amount of in-song variation. And as much as it bothers some of you, I like how the bridge is almost entirely drowned out - I interpret it as the song (and hopefully album) being less about the lyrics and more focused on the emotion and passion conveyed through the music as a whole. As for Ultraviolence, I didn't really like it that much while listening to the premiere but now that we've got the higher quality version I've warmed up to it considerably. I feel like UV is the strongest sonically when compared to the other two - the faded piano and strings are gorgeous, and I love the way the vocals are layered. The instrumentation makes me picture a run-down and overgrown atrium, and the vocals create this really murky and tainted vibe that add to the imagery. I especially love how the vocals conflict with one another at various points in the song. Aaannnddd then there's West Coast, which (to me at least) easily takes the honor of being the strongest lyrically. I'm not too big on the vocals here, there's just something about them during the verses that doesn't really click with me. On the other hand though, I do really like how well the tempo changes were handled. I'll be honest, I'm kinda hoping that these comprise the album's weakest points and that Lana is just letting us vent over them before the rest of the album - these just seem like really awkward choices for pre-album promo, and I feel like if she wasn't we would've already gotten Cruel World and maybe Money Power Glory since she started talking about it so early on.
  17. I personally really like it, although I'm not sure why. I guess I just like the way it makes the songs seem more natural and like rough cuts than finished, overproduced pieces.
  18. Alright y'all, I suggest you toddle back to your happy place and calm the fuck down - either that or hoist up your maturity pants, suck it up, and act like the civilized people we all pretend to be. This isn't the end of life as we know it.
  19. I like it, but I feel like it's gonna be one of the weakest songs on the album - it was lacking some sort of spark that Shades of Cool and the Brooklyn Baby snippet have.
  20. As much as I'd like to be able to do this, I need to listen to the album start to finish and ideally without knowing too many of the songs. I'll probably either just give in and listen to the leak (God knows how long it'll take FNAC to ship international) or just listen to Flipside since it's not a part of the main album.
