I think she's clearly clinically depressed, and she's suicidal. People always talk about death before they try it and I think that the Ultraviolence reception could be the tip over. She's unbalanced emotionally, her family it's weird, Barrie it's depressive too so her close relationships doesn't really help her out, she's alone confronting irrational hatred...my god for a moment I felt it and it's horrible (waiting to be judged by haters while you are putting your soul out there)
-
You are an optimist. Until now it's pretty mixed: two lows from self-proclaimed haters and some good and very good reviews. But I fear what will come, I think she didn't changed her approach towards these critics she will be affected again by it.

I'm so tired off this "I saw an article or a picture of Lana on the web and I know her better than anyone else". You know shit about her. We all saw those pictures and it could be that is from one or two conferences only. She never said that she didn't met her father in that period but it could be that were lengthy periods when they didn't communicated because her parents didn't approved her lifestyle and she just ran away.

Ultraviolence - Pre-Release Thread
FormerLanaFan replied to lflflflflflflflflflf's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
I hope that doesn't leak until the weekend albeit some people are talking about the physical copies that arrived in stores. If that is true it's almost impossible that the album will not leak tomorrow -
You're still here you toothless Lana hater (shark avi )? You are the one who slandered her in the Rolling Stone comments section with that stupid theory that she's is envious of Cobain?! Anyway, we don't know who's she talking about so we have to wait for the song. Lana has strong emotions I wouldn't want to be hated by her. But If she really is talking about somebody else then her in FMWUTTT it's just bad karma and pointless artistically.
-
I don't want to react to your faux logic throughout your adolescent superiority complex rant about what Lana said. You use to many emoticons to get you seriously. But this BS about her copying K. Cobain is just idiotic. Cobain was a drug addict, he was ill because he drugged himself to death. I don't know that well Lana to second guess her reasons for what she said or what she did. But to say that her story about her not feeling well is some copycat from Cobain's life is just idiotic. Lana is much more egocentric than that

I just can't with her, now 80% are talking about the (boring) feminist issue and just 20% about UV. Lana never gave a shit about feminism, you all know it, so get over it. Not everybody has to be a feminist soldier, so chill with the insults towards her because I can drag any wannabe pubescent feminist with ease. The reactions towards what she said aren't overwhelmingly negative, on the contrary, many are defending her for being bullied on the subject (feminism and choking - come on!) and some defended her right to have a different opinion on feminism. She's not hypocritical, that's her main "flaw". As we know it that some times it's better to keep your mouth shut or to say something that you aren't believing in. "My idea of a true feminist is a woman who feels free enough to do whatever she wants" Amen to that. Many feminist don't live like that

"Ultraviolence" to premier tomorrow on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe!
FormerLanaFan replied to TIARNZUS's topic in Latest News
The song is simply majestic, sad and melancholic. Lana at her best. The words are there to enhance the feelings that the music gives (there's no point to over-analyse the lyrics). I can't with the virgin teens lanalyzing this song in this thread -
Lana Del Rey Cancels Performance on David Letterman Show
FormerLanaFan replied to kingadam's topic in Latest News
I'm not to upset that she cancelled because I hated that they messed up her name. It's just disrespectful. It would have been nice to see her perform on TV tho, on the other hand her TV appearances were mostly controversial. I have two theories on this: they rescheduled for the first week of the release (that would be optimal from sales point of view) or she's so nervous that she doesn't want another strange performance like the SNL was. She clearly has an psychological problem with this pop stardom thing: she's avoiding big shows, TV, she always says in the interviews that she's a loner, that nobody likes her except her fans...it's strange, she wanted something but when she's so close to get it she doesn't like it or/and she's afraid of it (damn SNL and backlash, these things really got in her head) -
Lana Del Rey Cancels Performance on David Letterman Show
FormerLanaFan replied to kingadam's topic in Latest News
I'm agreeing with your comment, her sales will be compared with BTD probably. -
I love the song and the fact that is so different from WC. I saw some critics bitching about coupling "too" with "Malibu" but that was really the only thing they could single out as a flaw (and they tried hard as always). The overall effect is gorgeous and I hope that the song will become a soundtrack soon

Lana Del Rey Cancels Performance on David Letterman Show
FormerLanaFan replied to kingadam's topic in Latest News
She has to do it. Her pre-sales aren't that good in the US. But her main problem commercially is WEurope, her strongest market for BTD. She needs to do something and TV appearances are the most aggressive and effective promotion otherwise UV will flop commercially. She's not a indie girl but she's not a main pop girl either it's really bad spot for her because if she won't sale big she will be considered a flop by Taylor Swift standards and if she's gets bad reviews she will be considered an indie (artistic) flop. I expect that she will get the same mixed reviews overall as int he BTD era, the disdain towards her of some of the journalists is just unbelievable (a french journalist, after attending her concert in LA, called her a beardless Conchita Wurst ) -
No offence intended, but in my interpretation liking pretty things = shallow attitude = lacking depth and real artistry. Maybe the subversive part merits some consideration (she certainly trolls some feminist groups with her lyrics) but I think that some of the Lana fans just didn't understand their attraction towards her and become widely contradictory about her work. Most of the people with a higher intellectual self-appreciation just cannot flat out stan for her work, YB is a good example for that, the song nails the deepest anguish of any lover "Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful" but how can you acknowledge something that is emotionally true but rationally you are just too embarrassed to admit it publicly that you felt that way. (It's another discussion why are you embarrassed by it) I heard a good one from a dude: that Lana's songs have the same effect as porn to him (he is addicted to it but..what's the sense to talk about artistry when your comparison is porn) BTW I dissociate some of her stupid explanations made in interviews from the actual lyrical interpretation
-
If I would have felt this way about an artist I would never listen to it, and surely I wouldn't moderate a forum about that artist. I mean.. you are serious?! You are saying basically that her work is shit and she's lacking any real artistry. Can you be honest and make an estimation of how many ours you listened to her "superficial" songs?
-
The bizzare thing is that you dismiss a lyrical content because of one verse. That was done against her by many "critics"who singled out a word or a verse to dismiss an entire song. It's just LAME. "My boyfriend's in a band / He plays guitar while I sing Lou Reed" its like the verses in VG: "Swingin' in the backyard Pull up in your fast car Whistlin' my name Open up a beer" etc. they are describing a moment with significance from her relationship, a starting point to a story. Wait for the entire lyrical content of the song to judge it
-
I said wannabe social thinkers = an artist that "reflects" on social issues and creates "masterpieces" like Royals to appear somewhat more grounded and deep (i don't have anything against Lorde but Royals lyrics made me cringe). There were some good artists that sang about social issues like J. Cash but he sang in a different era without instant news and endless social and political debates on the internet or TV. I don't wanna be informed by pop artist regarding the shit that happens around me I would rather want them to affect my emotional side like Lana does
-
My boyfriend's in the band He plays guitar while I sing Lou Reed I've got feathers in my hair I get down to Beat poetry I'm a Brooklyn baby I'm a Brooklyn baby These are the lyrics that I found from BB. What is wrong with them? If you don't like her themes jump of the Lana train because it can happen that she will never change those themes: desperate love, abusive relationships, death, doomed fate, love for the beat poets etc. I think that these are great themes to sing about, i would rather cringe at some wannabe "social thinkers" in pop/rock music. I don't see Paradise as a lyrical regress from BTD and certainly UV is more of a sonic departure from her previous work than a lyrical one. That said I enjoy the "sonic monster" that UV is gradually revealing and certainly the lyrics helps in creating a mood and a visual context for the music. If you wanna read some deep shit lyrically you have to do better than pop or rock music. I cringe at people who expect Shakespearean lyrics from a pop act. A Wagner libretto shits on Pink Floyd entire lyrical content, get real, this is pop music and Lana is the ”queen of sadcore”, this is her genre and there are some limitations sonically and lyrically. (btw The Beatles were quite repetitive at the beginning of their career and that didn't stop them to be considered the greatest band in history). Maybe she'll change her perspective for the next albums but UV wasn't the right time for that. The music and the lyrics are just great together (UV will take some shit for the lyrics but I like the mood of the song, it's great live)

Lana Del Rey performs "Ultraviolence" (Song) in Vancouver
FormerLanaFan replied to C0neyIslandKing's topic in Latest News
Really?! It's like some of the (very young) people here were listening to The Crystals all their lives! If Lana wouldn't brought up this particular verse most of you would never heard about The Crystals or their lyrics (He hit me and it felt like a kiss) -
Usually I don't care for other people negative opinion but you're getting obnoxious. Your basic taste it's not a measure for the quality of UV. Her vocals match the change in sound and if you don't like it get over it. You're shading her here on LB and on ATRL and for a (former) stan it's just lame. Go stan for Mariah and let us enjoy her new direction because it's truly great
-
It's time for the kids to jump off from the Lana train. She's going in a different direction with UV. I love SOC. UV will not be a sing along album with 15 y.o but it's great for her development as an artist. I don't care for the charts, I'm ready to enjoy the UV experience

Lana Del Rey gets a Billboard Music Award Nomination
FormerLanaFan replied to kingadam's topic in Awards & Nominations
Remember, she was hidden in a motel when they held the Grammys. It was painful to see those photos, she was clearly depressed by the situation. That stupid remix had the biggest chance to win, how could she attend that ceremony? Putting on a brave face for Cedric's win, a nobody who put some beats on her song while she was trashed all over the place? (I cringed when I saw Cedric face holding the grammy). And now nominated randomly, what would be the reason to attend? To promote UV? Forget the promotion of UV. -
I like The Black Keys, he talks about his new album Turn Blue and working with Lana http://live105.cbslocal.com/2014/05/12/the-black-keys-dan-auerbach-talks-turn-blue-lana-del-ray-the-bay-area-and-more/

Ultraviolence Tracklist Discussion
FormerLanaFan replied to lflflflflflflflflflf's topic in Latest News
I'm torn between the way she described UV in her latest radio interview as a "vibe" which is BS and what Auerbach said about it that is a sonic monster and listening made him uncomfortable. Auerbach got 4,5 stars for his latest album from rollingstone.com while she was castigated by the same magazine for the tracklist which was labelled as "absurd". Since Auerbach praised UV and Auerbach was praised by the RS we may infer (hope) that UV will be praised by the RS. This logical inference is obviously denied by the RS reaction to the tracklist, it seems that they are preparing for another quick and superficial dismissal of her work. The haters come up with an explanation for the Auerbach appraisal saying that they probably fucked together which I sincerely doubt
