  1. Mike hyped it up and said it was fire, and after it was released he admitted he went lowkey on it so "she could shine" (which is justifiable, but nothing about the production is fire imo) Also why she got a hip hop/synth producer to just do some background department store piano chords is a mystery
  2. I don't think the colours she mentions are just for the fuck of it Blue is obviously a colour she talks about a lot in relation to love and the inherent difficulties of being in love But think green and grey signify stuff too. Green probably signifies normality and being able to be natural around her friends, and maybe the grey signifies like neutralising all of those emotional highs and lows Or maybe I sound like one of those Italian cokehead Eurovision contestants
  3. Joan huh She's really not gonna say anything
  4. I mean maybe these are supposed to be spoken word and could even be from Iron Gates. We don't know because radio silence. But if they're not ... then that interview comment is
  5. This guy though https://mobile.twitter.com/niekebraet/status/1396223038601973762
  6. Yeah no this is exactly what it is. When I listened, I pictured the lyrics typed up on a page like in Violet and heard her reciting them like the spoken word. Maybe that's my own fault because I have very good imagination, but they just seemed to fit. And I'm not even saying that there's anything inherently wrong with turning a poem into a song, just that, coupled with the very bare instrumentation, that's how these seem to me. I enjoy them for what they are but I don't find them to be fully developed songs, especially not when compared to her past work. Music is part of a song and the instrumentation in these doesn't match the lyrical depth and emotion and I find it jarring. The argument can be made that that was done so as not to overwhelm her (Mike said as much) but at what point does the music just become inconsequential? And then if it's inconsequential then why is it even there and why aren't the words presented as just a poem to give them focus, and therein lies my issue.
  7. Yes I 100% agree She can, obviously, sing about whatever she wants but if she's electing to sing about everyday normal life (eg: Chunk baking a cake) then I need more than someone playing the same four chords on a piano in the background. Spilling some tea about her mother shouldn't be the main point of interest. And this is my unpopular opinion not my unpopular objective fact
  8. What are you even talking about? It's my opinion, not an objective truth. It IS fundamentally subjective and that's why you have an opposing opinion. And both are okay.
  9. The start of Blue Banisters reminded me of the start of HBHBHB so I went and listened to the latter to contrast and compare and realised that that was where the similarity ended because Florence's song has actual instrumentation and builds into something instead of the same thing for 5 minutes I fucking WISH Lana would do a Delilah at this point and HBHBHB isn't even my favourite Florence album
  10. Listened again and drums (and to a lesser extent, guitar) would've made these songs, especially Wildflower. You can feel in your SOUL where the drums should come in and they're missing. I don't have a problem with piano per se, but there's not enough variation in the melodies for a piano to carry these songs instrumentally. This is particularly true of Blue Banisters which is like four notes and her singing the same short melody over and over. The only interesting aspect for me is her lyricism and there's no need to replay now that I know them.
  11. If Lithuania doesn't win then this shit is rigged
  12. I'm not sure what her angle is with the zero posts/promotion. Did she have second thoughts about releasing them for some but her label made her put them out because everything was already organised? Is she just very lazy and doesn't want to do any promotion at all? Does she want people to discover them for themselves when they log on to streaming? Is she busy with her personal life and doesn't have time?
  13. I enjoyed COCC but it was too short and everything she's done since NFR seems rushed, imo The 3 singles are definitely more like poems with music. There's no emotion in the instrumentals and tbh, Jack's work on VBBOTG had more sonic variation than these "songs" do (think of the final poem ... Linoleum?) Mike Dean lied when he said Wildflowers was fire. There IS no fire and that's the problem. There's no anger, no sadness ... except in her voice. You can't take a poem, employ repetition on a few lines and then say it's a song. It isn't. And as I said above, the sheer extent of the namedropping makes these feel like personal diary entries which again, makes them seem more poem-y. "Jenny's smoking by the pool" "Chuckie's baking a birthday cake" And whatever the fuck else I do not care, idk about anyone else Anyway I'm glad that others are enjoying these but I suspect the replay value won't be there
  14. I am really sick of her namedropping people in her songs, especially after today It's okay to do in moderation but enough is enough I get that it's hEr LiFe but Jesus, Chuck and Jen and Nikki and Charlie and Joni and Joan and whoever else do not need to be mentioned in every song ever Less is more. She does it so much that it is not lyrically impactful at all because it's just a mish-mash of names There's a reason the CD booklet usually has a page for acknowledgements and she should use it
  15. Yeah I mean he is the supportive parent as far as social media goes. That was missing today, and I just hope there's nothing too deep about it, ya know? It made me feel a little bad for her so I am now going to go and say nice things on Twitter
  16. I think this is a really good point; it's the first time she's ever said anything directly about her mum's treatment of her in her music. Usually, Rob says something about her releases but today he just posted a picture of himself in a new shirt. I really hope there isn't any fallout from her family (not saying Rob is angry with her or anything like that, but just generally, from any family members)
  17. Yeah this is how I feel. I kept thinking they'd pick up. It seemed like they were building up sonically at times but they ended up going nowhere which was a bit disappointing. Vocally and lyrically, she served. They remind me of a 3-piece HIADT
  18. Right? Like she's actually embracing the minimal effort poetry picsart aesthetic and people will still buy 12 t-shirts with just different text and the same selphie Astounding and remarkable
  19. Oh yeah the album should have a lenticular cover that changes from the serious expression to the smile that someone posted a few days ago Lit
  20. I mean she said she was going away to finish Iron Gates in February (?) and then these come out of nowhere And they are very verbose like true poems But okay
  21. Does anyone else think that maybe these are the Iron Gates poems in spoken word format? Because these songs really seem like poems with music so maybe they're like a step up from the spoken VBBOTG It explains the singles covers (sort of) and the two album thing and etc
