  1.  Lana Del Rey stormed into the middle of 2019 with a softly raging album that took the world by surprise

we fucking wish. August 30 is basically late 2019.  after this "top of the year" nonsense

Oh and the Christmas song with Kacey that sounds extra crispy. The closest she’s getting to aka vocaals.

she does not sound like she wants to be home for christmas.  vocals, crispy. warm? cozy? heartfelt? idk.

this is the best post ive ever seen on lanaboards and represents this entire era for everyone who has every heard a single note off norman fucking rockwell

  2. Here are some songs that reflect the sound I would love to see for LDR7

    OSCYS

    Pawn Shop Blues

    Fine China

    Cherry Blossom

    Yes To Heaven

    Wild On You

I'm sure she's going to continue the stripped down acoustic sound, and this is what I see her going for, if she does it well. I would be happy if she finds some new people to work with. Something about Jacks production seems very surface level, it's very safe sounding. The songs I listed above do a really good job at evoking emotion and artistical depth, at least, better than NFR did. These songs are simple, straight to the point, but I wouldn't describe them as tame. Even in their simplicity they are still ambitious and beautiful.

this 100% and add Elvis, Money Honey, Get Drunk, Disco

  3.

The reason why Norman Fucking God is (deservingly) Lana's most acclaimed album to date is because it's her most precise, most stripped-down, most mature album with the best and most clever songwriting of her career. It's that simple.

imagne thinking NFR is Lana's most mature album with her most clever songwriting HAHAHAHAHAHA.  this is what you get when you buy your taste at Target

  4. I really don't have to be grateful for this lmao

One of the top comments on the video is trying to make out like the people who find it dull are locals who only know summertime sadness, as if one of her most famous mvs isn't mentioned in every goddamn interview and article, and isn't also homemade. The difference between... this... and video games (and her lizzy vids for that matter) is the footage for vg fits the music, both in terms of timing, theme, and emotion. This doesn't at all. Watch the kill kill video and then watch the bartender segment. This is legit so lazy, and is2g this is the only big fanbase for a musician in which we're grateful for the absolute stalest crumbs and you're told you're not a "real fan" if you expect a drop of effort to be put into things like music vids lmao.

imagine being rich and famous to the point that all you have to do for "work" is create beautiful art - and being too lazy to even do that.  honestly id rather her just not do anything or keep it to herself.  bc it feels like a slap in the face to everyone who actually works hard doing shit they dont wanna do just to survive, who dont even have the time theyd like to devote to their art, but keep trying anyway.  she's like "ha ha yeah i made it, im rich and famous, i can just do nothing but barely observe ab how the world (cough, not really the world, just LA) is burning but still not do anything about it".. then has the gall to act like shes doing a lot of good for the world or something

  5. The most mindfucking part is that some of you still think old hollywood is her aesthetic when her aesthetic has been california casual for years now. Stop expecting her to do hollywood-esque stuff for your own sakes please. If that‘s what she wanted to do she would do it.

idk, it's not as much ab what her aesthetic is as much as it is ab how it's executed.  Lana has always mixed styles that dont necessarily go together, but it worked a lot better in the past.

BTD: Old Hollywood glamour / hip hop tinges / 4th of July

Paradise: sepia western / road trip realness / California palm trees

UV: lost in suburbia / sad acid trip / old money Florida

HM: European vacation / cult vibes / 20s jazz

LFL: flower power / space explorers / techno-apocalypse / ruined peaches & black beaches

NFR is serving surfing & boats / piano balladry / Laurel Canyon teas / Walmart witchcraft / comic book style / neon green vibes / being too rich for the cops to apprehend you / wasting perfectly good sandwiches and slurpees

even LFL had a more beautiful style than NFR in my opinion.  I for one appreciated the 60s flower child vibe juxtaposed against space and technology even if i didn't really get the Hollywood sign thing.  it's not ab Old Hollywood, it's ab beautiful and meaningful style.  NFR is just kinda bland

  6. learn the lyrics luv x  :hooker:

someone pls tell this to Lana herself so she doesnt have to keep googling her song lyrics onstage

this is really just venice bitch mv over and over with a few clips of her doing idk what with her friends and throwing food at cops i-..... i just don't understand her logic....? how did we go from Born to Die aka cinematic sexy masterpiece to... dis ? :crying5:

at least with venice bitch, the "same thing happening again and again over and over" thing made a little sense with the long drawn out song and lyrics that literally say "over and over honey over and over" while we watch the same old traffic moving over and over.  this just doesnt match the tone at tf all.  truly a shame and a waste.

  7. @ seriously, footage of a live performance is such a classic music video move, and i think thatd be way better than whatever is happening here.  like shes giving us rich girls throwing shit at cops and somehow not getting arrested for assault or gunned down?  talking on the phone in a parking lot with facial expressions not matching the emotion of the song?  like, she cant even be bothered to lip sync in time with the lyrics.  i know im kinda a hater but like, cmon lana

  8. inb4 "Lana doesnt give a fuck about you! Lana doesnt owe you anything! You will take what you get and you will praise her for it or you take your opinion out to the farthest dumpster at a Jack In The Box in the outskirts LA where it belongs!"

but for real its like, hon, you have the most (undeserved) acclaimed album of the entire year and possibly decade, and we get this joke? why put so much effort into the animations for such a pointless video?  why even film it?  just sing it for the babies on the tourlyfe and let them film it for you.

  9. Exactly...! Admittedly, I got into Mariah more intently during Memoirs, so I got to listen to everything before then and was just FLOORED. On the same boat w ya, was a casual listener since BtD. West Coast got me hooked, and I got to semi revisit BtD, but it's just not the same. Actually, kinda going thru this process w Grimes atm, and it's one of the best feelings, like being able to just digest all of their tracks in a short period of time, it's amazing right??

Factoid, HM still sounds so so so fresh to me it's amazing-

this happened to me with MIA. when her album AIM was about to be released i went back and listened to all her albums before and got a full immersive experience that really changed my entire life.  and to get back on topic before i get another warning point - i think NFR references Lana's older work a lot.  "liquor off the top shelf" "drink lime green" (diet mountain dew) "serial killer" etc.  she started this in LFL with "its not just a video game". and i wonder if its like Lana looking back at herself or Lana looking at what she now represents to the general public as a mainstream artist.  is she running out of material and just rehashing the old shit that brought her success or? idk  HM is still fresh tho.  fave Lana album hands down.  talk about a magnum opus

  10. Sometimes an intro acts like a gateway n interest to everything else so I mean heyo. It's a perk of being a fan late imo, ya get this entire catalog and it's just world-opening

ooooh this makes me wish i was just now getting into Lana.  i never thought about this.  everyone who is just now discovering Lana gets to go back and listen to her past albums and that's got to be a magnificent experience.  i started listening after Born To Die came out so now ive heard her older albums a million times and it would be so much better if they were still fresh D:

  11. ok yes i am glad Lana is finally getting recognition. BUT i am disappointed that it's recognition for her new, basic, toned down, publicly accessible aesthetic and not the glorious masterpiece trilogy of Born To Die, Ultraviolence, and Honeymoon.  but it's whatever.  Even boring Lana is more interesting than most new artists these days (including everyone else nominated for the Grammys (except Lil Nas X who should win (I used to like Lizzo till she fucked with that Postmates driver (Ariana has always sucked))) soooooo

  12. soooo everyone endlessly repeating the same shite ab how NFR is Lana's "magnum opus" and swooning over mediocre Lana choons are coming for people sharing critical opinions of NFR based in actual music critique with valid reasoning?  the hypocrisy is more pronounced than Lizzy Grant's life.  seriously theres posts on every fucking page repeating the same thing trying to shut up anyone who doesnt see NFR in a purely positive sycophantic light.  that's more annoying than a differing opinion with interesting reasoning to back it up.

anyway, has the music video leaked yet?

Norman Fucking Rockwell crowns yet another year-end list, this time by Q Magazine. Congratulations Lana & Jack!

ah yes, critics are always right and mass public opinion is always good.  that's why Donald Trump is president, Taylor Swift is a pop icon, Vincent Van Gogh never got recognized till he died, Jesus was murdered by a mob, the Tories are destroying the UK through public support, Nick Drake was never popular in his lifetime, etc etc etc, right??  Some people will never get it

  13. As for Lana being hailed as one of America's greatest living songwriters, that's not random at all considering there are couple of tracks here that literally sound like they could've been on some of the earlier Fiona albums.

how dare you. take this back immediately and burn your computer.

continuing my campaign for a lana/jon brion collab

now THIS could be a magnum opus

It's the NFR thread and I'm sharing my experience with the album and that's how it should be.

idk you but i love you bb. your opinion is invaluable on this forum, and perhaps more importantly, objectively correct.

to all of the Jacking Antonoff stans -- how can anyone assert that someone who has dated Lena Dunham has any sort of taste worth respecting?  js.

  14. why tf, of all tracks on NFR - including such decent songs as California, Fuh Ih I Luh Yuh, Venice Bitch, Cinnamon Girl, Happiness is a Butterfly, Mariners Apartment Complex, hell even the Greatest - does the title track get all this attention?  I have to be honest: It seems like people just didn't really have the time to listen to the whole album but some higher ups at these music publications decided this was gonna be Lana's year back in February and they just picked the first track because its title is most recognizable (as also being the album title) to laud and applaud...  Is it just me?
