  1. Well I don't know if it's better, but it's definitely a great song

I am surprised at how many people criticized it in this thread, I mean come on it's a standard BTD song with all the Lana trademarks on it. Just listen to this flawless performance. It's something different

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWmW16r5dsQ

i never cared for carmen until i heard this performance. actually, if any of you haven't heard the whole set, GO LISTEN NOW. it's magical.

does anyone have a vid of the full cruel world?? sorry if i missed it.

  2. i have most of lana's unreleased songs but i somehow missed this one until about a month ago.

i can't believe what i was missing. does anyone else feel very strongly about this song? there is something so fucking tragic & nostalgic about it that i get emotional every time i listen to it.

  3. This era is actually a huge, huge disappointment. Even with the material given, she could have created so much more and interesting stuff. When you want to put a distance between the last era and this one, you can handle it in a way that is still exciting for your fans to live this album with you, not just release it and vanish more or less.

this is exactly what i have been trying to get at in this thread. i prefer the music of UV to BTD (mostly cos the BTD demos were better), but at least during the BTD era we got more than canceled appearances and minimal promo. lana is so special because she is the whole package. i don't know why she is wasting this opportunity that she had sought for so long. i am a musician myself & it kind of pains me to see her waste this.

i don't know what happened. she seemed to really, really believe in this album--knew it would turn things around for her. and then it got pretty good reviews, so what's stopping her? what's the problem?

  4. I think Tori Amos is able to do that now as she is in that legend status ( even though most don't know or have heard her music and they should EVEN if they don't like it)

She still has her label she needs to apease, and whilst she is with interscope, she will need to do what is set out in her contract (whatever that is) however she isn't seemingly doing any of that tbh.

what is a Non-fan? I don't get what you mean?

tori has always done her shows like that, though. there's no excuse to play the same setlist night after night when you have PLENTY of other songs you could perform. it's lazy.

& i think you are missing my point? i want lana do to more creative/visual/interactive stuff, a lot of which she used to do. she could change her setlist, make more videos, perform on tv shows/radio shows...or she could do something like a webchat w/fans. we don't even know if there will be an ultraviolence tour yet! i just expect more from her is all.

...a non-fan is exactly what it sounds like: someone who isn't a fan of lana del rey. she needs to focus on those of us who love her and stop worrying about haters.

  5. Is promo neccessary for an artist such as Lana? like really- does promo matter. Isn't it about the music not the bling???

it's not necessary, i suppose. i don't mean that i want her to do promo to get more famous or climb the charts. i don't give a fuck about that. i'm interested in lana and her creative projects that go w/the music. so i want her to do things like the BBC thing she canceled as well as other performances that i can watch in HQ. i want her to perform different songs, most of all. i want the setlists of her shows to be ultraviolence-heavy instead of the same old. if i were her, i'd take advantage of my vast back catalog and throw in a few unreleased songs now & again. i'm a tori amos fan and she pretty much plays a different setlist every night & even includes b-sides in her shows. why can't lana do that?

i want music videos that are more than an afterthought. the visuals have always been an important component of her music but ultraviolence is so uninspired in this area. tropico was a huuuge project & even if you thought it sucked, it was at least ambitious. are we even getting anymore videos for UV?

i know she did a ton of print interviews early on in the era but it would be nice to WATCH her being interviewed.

her lack of promo just makes me think she doesn't care about the project, which is strange since she was always saying how UV made her forget about BTD. what happened to that?? she needs to get over herself and this victim complex she has with the media. i just wish she would focus on the fact that she has a great, intense following and release stuff for us and not care about non-fans. ugh.

  6. ultraviolence is musically, vocally miles better than BTD. BTD is better lyrically and thematically. mostly because ultraviolence is a little redundant in those areas.

sadly, this era is boring. so it's coloring my vision  :pft: we don't have the cool, artistic videos of the eras before btd/early btd era.  (yes, the ultraviolence vid was basically homemade but it disappointed.) we don't have the promo and HQ videos of btd. i just want her to seem to care about promoting ultraviolence.

  7. I love the way they show affection to each other. It's very sensual and absolutely not vulgar. It's clear she likes to be dominated. I wonder if she ever asked him to choke her during sex... :flutter:

uh, i sure hope not. choking is probably the most dangerous thing you can do during sex. there's no "safe" way to choke someone either. be smart, kids  :crossed:

  8. i think it would have been a fantastic idea, had she found those musical soulmates she was desperately searching for in her early days. i love her as a solo artist but i think with the right people lana could have been next level, not crushed by critics...who knows now, though? i'm just glad we have her in any form.

  9. it's so beautiful & i'm in love with the aesthetics, but it would have made a better interlude/non-single video or a photoshoot. she really should have gone all out with the cult theme & i can't believe she missed that opportunity.

this looks like it cost no money so i think she should make a simple video like this one for all of the songs. . .though IDEALLY it would have been nice if she made little vids like this for all of the songs & then bigger budget ones for the singles. like, what happened? shades of cool was so good but why did they blow the budget on a non-single??

  10. Well, didn't someone once say that all publicity is good publicity?

It's weird, even when I read the interview for the very first time - before the hype explosion - I just thought, well, I know where you're coming from. I didn't worry that she was about to take her own life or any of that and didn't really think twice about it... I imagined it kinda like she said it (having just listened to the audio.) But I guess the reason is, that I feel like I really relate to that kind of underlying blues where you don't take life for granted. You kinda question whether you want to be here or not, it's never just a given. But at the same time never ever wanting (truly) to take your own life, because the beauty of life isn't lost on you either.

I find Jaime's tweets really weird. It's REALLY hard for me not to think that the first one was indeed aimed at Lana. Fits perfectly. And if they're still as close as they have been in the past, then why isn't she up to date with this media storm of BS surrounding Lana?

this is exactly how i took what she said. i feel like that sometimes, doesn't mean i'm actively suicidal. this interview really convinced me that lana is an enneagram 4--does anyone agree? i am one too and i think that's why i feel such a connection to lana.

The Four is the personality type which emphasizes the subjective world of feelings, in creativity and individualism, in introversion and self-absorption, and in self-torment and self-hatred. In this personality type we see creative artists, romantic aesthetes, and withdrawn dreamers, people with powerful feelings who feel different from others because self-consciousness blocks them from getting outside themselves.

i really encourage anyone interested in lana's psyche to read this page. it's fits her to a T. thoughts?
